Hello friends. I haven’t posted since November and I’d like to share with you the reason why. On November 20th I was travelling on a local, 2-way traffic road, one lane in each direction, when out of the blue the car coming towards me in the other direction decided to make a left turn right in front of me. I had about two feet to react, and I crashed into the driver’s side front quarter panel and went flying over the car. I landed in the street, and when all was said and done I shattered my right tibia, fibula and part of the kneecap into “too many pieces to count” as my orthopedist put it, along with my right wrist. I now have rods, plates and screws throughout. There are a few pics below. I entered the hospital on November 20th and eleven surgeries later I left on January 12th. Since then I’ve gone from bed to wheelchair to walker to crutches to cane, but even with physical therapy its been very slow going. With any luck I’ll be walking unassisted by the summer. The kicker? The guy who cut me off was an Uber driver, with a passenger, who was looking at his GPS to see where he was. The moral of the story? Please always be alert out there, and remember to wear your gear. I was only travelling at 25 mph and still suffered terrible injuries. The front of my scooter is simply gone. Thanks to my helmet my head was uninjured, and even the light summer riding gloves I had on were enough to fully protect my hands. I’m not sure if I am going to return to scootering when I’m better, but I’m going to remain a participant on the site so I can live vicariously through the rest of you. I’ve always enjoyed the camaraderie on this site and the enthusiasm people have to help. Ride safely friends.

Thanks for the reply JR. Certainly could be the stator. One thing I learned from you all is to test one thing at a time! the regulator is much easier to get to (takes less time/easier disassembley) so I figured I'd start there. There is another video that shows how to measure voltages coming out of the stator that I found that I'll use when I have a good block of time to take things apart.

Interesting question. My 260cc takes a battery with only has 6ah, and I would have thought 9 is way high for a scooter battery already. Let me know your battery style number and I'll be happy to help with some searching. Waiting to see more replies.

In the event that it comes up for anyone in the future, I'll note that if you need a 40mm exhaust gasket (such as you need for the Linhai style 257cc motor (at least in the Vog 260)), you can use Honda part 18291-MN5-650 (a ring gasket). This way if you need one in a pinch you can get one from a local dealer and not have to wait for mail order. i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l559/trailheadmike/gasket_zpsryjfqnez.jpg

Well, after 16 months, I am back to the original exhaust. About a month ago a 90 degree weld snapped on one mounting bracket, and while I was deciding if I should get rid of it or find a place to have it welded the actual mounting plate on the other mount cracked in half. No sense in welding it if the metal itself is going to fail, so I put on the old muffler back on and tied it into the Dragon head pipe. The head pipe is too short, so I bridged the gap with one of those clamps you use to tie together metal pipe to pvc. I ordered the correct head pipe and in the mean while this fix seems to be working fine. One thing I'll say is that it is very odd to have the scooter be so quiet again! The Dragon was very loud but in a good way. I wanted to ask partypooper how your experience has been with the Dragon. I loved the way it looked and sounded, but it never quite seemed to fit and needed regular adjusting. Here's a pic of my gerry rigged transition. You'll note the high tech aluminum foil used for gaskets at either end. i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l559/trailheadmike/001_zpsx3d2yf1o.jpg

Before tearing it apart are you sure its the starter clutch? could it just not be engaging? I'm not sure how to diagnose.
That said, chapter 4 of the Yamaha YP250 Majesty manual, the engine upon which our Vog clones are based, walks you through it. If you don't have this manual, give me your email address and I'll send you a pdf. Good luck.

Hi. On the carb version, the fuse box is in the left hand side of the glove box, all the way in the back where it is almost impossible to reach.
Anyway, as others have said, it sounds like a fuel issue. it doesn't matter that the fuel is flowing uphill. that is what the fuel pump is for. the gas goes from the tank through the fuel filter to the fuel pump, which is very likely vacuum powered to push the fuel into the efi system. so, you need to think about what is going wrong in that system if that is the problem. as someone else said, the easiest thing to do is go to the last delivery point (where the fuel goes to the efi, or whatever is where the carb is now. pull off that hose, and crank the engine. if everything along the way is working, you get fuel shooting out with each crank. If you are like me, you'll be looking at the hose when it happens and you'll get a face full of gas, so don't be like me.
If it is not pulsing out when you crank, something is wrong along the way. Check to see that there is fuel in the filter. If there is, then we need to look at the fuel pump. On your scoot there is an electric fuel pump. You can check for good connections or, like you said, it would be nice to see if there is a fuse block to check.
Another diagnostic is to take the hose off where it supplies the fuel to the carburetor equivalent. put your own piece of hose there, put a funnel on the end of the hose, and hold it up, and pour in gasoline. does it start now? If yes, then its definitely the fuel pump.
Finally, I had lots of starting problems with my Vog (the carb equivalent of your scoot) when I started, and at the end of the day everything was traced back to the brown and yellow wired going into the box that attaches to the CDI. It was loose. I pushed it on with a pair of pliers and never had a starting problem again.
You should also confirm you have good spark and that the boot is on the plug properly. I had a bad boot at one point as well.
Good luck and keep us posted!!

Hi all. I recently checked my plug because I did not like how I've been running of late, and I found that my plug, an NGK DR8EA, had lost its terminal nut and was now bent. The boot I have needs the nut to grab on to - it won't grab on the terminal threads.
I could buy a new plug easy enough, but could not find an auto parts store that even knew what a terminal nut was let alone sell one. I didn't feel like waiting for one to come in the mail, so I called NGK and asked if they sold a DR8EA style that had a fixed nut. they did and I got it from a motorcycle dealer. Should this come up for anyone, you can buy an NGK DR8EB.
