Ending the use of cell phones in a car is quite easy. Just have to get beyond the lawyers. Cell phone jamming is very common in certain public places like the better restaurants, theaters, opera and symphonic halls. All that is required is to put a small jammer into each car and if the wheels are turning the jammer comes on, when the wheels stop turning the jammer turns off. The 911 signal could be set to a frequency that is not jammed so the phone is always ready for emergency. This 911 solution will take care of the lawyers that don't want the phones blocked due to emergencies. Hire a scientist or engineer before hiring a lawyer. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_phone_jammeror just Google 'cell phone jammer' .

I just m moved to Arizona so I have picked up their drivers manual. So coming from Colorado I now have official evidence of the drivers rules.
Both Colorado and Arizona have taken space to tell drivers that when ever a emergency vehicle approaches from front or rear with lights and sirens on, you must pull to he right of the road and stop till they have passed. Police, fire engines, ambulances were examples given.
Now remembering from Ohio where I grew up, following an emergency vehicle was considered wrong and you could get a ticket for doing so. In my home town they would occasionally run a fire truck out and down into a dead end road. The police would then shut the road off and ticket anyone in there that had no business to be there. Some were good, volunteer firemen, and some were bad, nosy people.

Well I was just trying to show you how easy it would be to check your engine size out. Now I am just as confused as any one. Thanks for your reply as I am learning just as you are when folks reply to my posts. If your photo is accurate you do have a horizontal engine and that would be Linhai Yamaha. Check your VIN with this chart and it may help you decide what is real and what is not. .motorcycleforums.net/forum/tips-training/5800-how-decode-vin-number.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">.motorcycleforums.net/forum/tips-training/5800-how-decode-vin-number.htmlI have no idea if this list is current or not but might be worth a try. EDIT: Well it doesn't seem to work for my VIN so now I wait for someone to come up with a newer or better way to check the VIN. Try this for start. 2strokebuzz.com/scooter-vinsYou will find the first three numbers that tell us the country and builders. LJ4 is well down the list and is in China. Still looking for more info. And here is another that started but then asked for more information, personal help suggested. I had this on more than one place but seldom join or contact places till I know more about them. .cyclepedia.com/manuals/CPP-VIN/index.php" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">.cyclepedia.com/manuals/CPP-VIN/index.phpThey do have a nice chart that shows what the numbers mean on different formats. These search places start out OK and tell me some information but seldom complete as my VIN is not in some data base. My VIN is only 10 months old from my request for title so maybe it just has not been imported to the data base yet. Maybe I should contact these folks and have them enter my VIN into the data base. I think I will stop the search for now. .

Thanks Richard, that is exactly what my scoot says on the side panel too. Under your seat you should find some tags about your machine. Find the emissions control plate and see what the number of CC's is. On my machine it says 244cc and it is a Honda clone. If yours says 257cc then it would be the Linhai/Yamaha or a clone. Interesting that what the importer says is not what is actually happening. Is that Roketa's problem or the retailers that make up their own specials and names for them. Sure is confusing. .

OK richardthescooter3, please let me ask a question about your scooter designation. It is a question I have asked on this forum before and still no clear answer. Is your Linhai machine really a MC-54-250B or might it be a MC-54B-250. If I look into the Rocketa listings for both of those numbers and then look at the parts list it shows the horizontal engine on the 54B and the vertical engine on the 250B. Or maybe it is just 54 with no B for the Honda and the 250 with or without the B means something different than the engine. All this number talk on this and other scoot forums drives me nuts. Yesterday I read where someone said that the Linhai engine had been dropped by Roketa but when I go to the Roketa site they still show it available. So yes, if you could double check your number and let me know. Maybe I should forget the numbers and just go ride. But when ordering parts or information that question can be asked. .roketa.com/product/productlist/2610.shtml" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">.roketa.com/product/productlist/2610.shtmlScroll down till you find MC-54-250 and MC-54B-250 side by side. Then on each, click on blue tag for parts list. Check the engines on the parts list illustrations. MC-54 is vertical Honda clone and MC-54B is horizontal Linhai style. .

You made a good guess on my scooter. It is a 2008 MC-54-250B with a Honda clone engine. I have had it about 11 months now and it has 60 miles on it. I hope to raise that number now that we are down here in the warmer climate area. .

Today I finally had the opportunity to take my scoot out for a ride. Almost 8 months since my last ride so I was a bit nervous launching from my drive. But launch I did and went for a short ride around a couple blocks of my new neighborhood. I did OK but need some refreshing rides to remember basics like turn signal on and off. I am not in a car so feet must go down when I stop. I remembered before I fell over.
The temp was about 72 and with my helmet on I was starting to sweat in short order. Probably going to be a problem as the Arizona heat starts building up. I don't think we need helmets by law but I already have a failed skull due to a brain tumor surgery. Not sure I can risk a non padded crash to the pavement. Even a padded crash must be avoided if I can.
My 8 month lapse in riding was due to house hunting for many months and while doing that I also had lots of fun with Shingles and drugs to control the pain of Shingles. For a while they had me floating with drugs for spasms plus the pain killer narcotics. I would not even drive the car if I had just taken those medications. Then shortly before we moved to Arizona I had a bad case of the roaming rocks in the kidneys. I periodically have kidney stones but never like this before.
Sure glad I took this intro ride today. I feel better about how well I did after so long without a ride. Also, i am having more time for myself now that I have replaced or repaired many items in our Arizona home. More riding coming up. .

The pictures are the same and they look just like my 2008 MC-54-250B which has the 244cc Honda clone in it.
Rocketa also has a MC-54B-250 that uses the Linhai Yamaha clone engine. The same looking machine is also offered with a 300cc engine but I don't have a clue whose engine style that was.
They have a toll free phone so call them and ask the salesman for specific questions before you order. I did not do that and wondered till delivered which engine I had ordered. The call may be important to you, so do it. .

Today I decided to take a bit of time off the unpacking and changing mail addresses. I stopped in the garage, made sure the scoot was on the main stand, and started it up. Noticed immediately that it was running a bit fast but waited until the fan came on. I could not get it to settle down the way it was in Colorado. So I opened the seat, took out the panel, and started to tweak the carb idle setting. After a bit I was able to slow it down from a bit over 2,000 down to about 1,800. At the higher RPM the rear wheel was really spinning along but at 1,800 the rear wheel was sitting mostly idle with an occasional movement. I guess the move of over 5,000 feet closer to sea level had put more oxygen than necessary in the engine. Hope that also works for my lungs as well.
Next is to get time to get on and ride around the local streets and get used to riding once again. It has been over 6 months since I rode in Colorado. Between bad weather and a summer on narcotic pain relief and house hunting I had no time for fun. Anyone wonder about Shingles? They hurt a plenty and that is why I had narcotics.
This looks like a great place to ride and practice. It is one of those builder tracts where there is no continuous streets. This place is a big maze. The feeder roads have a series of circles and the neighborhood streets go a block or two and force a turn then another turn to get to the next block untill you arrive on your block. Lots of fun with starting, turning, stopping, turn signals on and off, and then one day I will ride out of the developed tract and onto the main traffic roads that go someplace. Speeds on the main road run usually about 35 mph, some a bit higher. Folks around here are a bit more risky than in other places. So it will be mostly defensive driving for me. .

Thanks for posting JR.
Now in Arizona home. We spent our first night in the Arizona home. Very quiet.
Lots of boxes of stuff in here. Looks just like Santa was here already. Maybe by next week end we will have it all cleared up so we can start living again.
Merry Christmas to all. .

Jr my mc54b is the yamaha / linhai clone Glad you posted Richard. Your machine was a 54B and was a Linhai. My machine was a 250B and had a Honda. I think more with the 54B Linhai configuration should post and more with the 250B with Honda should post. I am still not convinced that 250B designates a Lihai machine. Just saying 'I have a B machine and it has Linhai', says nothing. Where was the B character? So folks, keep posting for your machines. .

Try this outfit. They are freinds of my son. One of the people was my sons college room mate for a while. I don't know if they operate the type of generator you are thinking of but take a look and they might. Or maybe a contact with them and they can reference a group that does use the type you are wanting. I have never been to their homes but my son has and he really likes it back there far from electrical connections. I am a bit more seduced by convenience so I am not yet ready for all this solar cell and windmill stuff. .otherpower.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">.otherpower.com/.

Hello JR. My scoot, MC 54 250B, YY250T, 244cc, has on its tags the following.
Big tag-
Imported by Jonway Motorcycle USA CO Conforms to US EPA and California ARB
Middle size tag -
Manufactured by: Shanghai JMStar Motorcycle CO., LTD Date of MFG: July 2008 GVWR: 598 Lbs
VIN: xxxxxxxxxxx Type: Motorcycle
Smallest tag -
This 2008 YY250T motor driven cycle VIN XXXXXXXXX meets EPA emission requirement of 70db at 6000 rpm etc etc
So I have yet another MFG BY name. I got my motorcycle rating on my drivers license in May 2010 but did not buy until Feb 2011. Many months were spent in the web reading about scoots and sources. I had a long list of URL's and joined many forums. As I went along I had looked at many variations but I also found more direction for me to go well above the 50cc where I could drive without license so I then took the MC course. After passing the license requirements I then spent more time looking at specific items. Also, whenever we could I would stop in a city where I could actually see and touch scoots. I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere and only have access to scooter places in large cities, about 6 or 8 hours away in many directions. I thought I had some outlets only an hour and half away so we drove there one day and found the store. But they only sold and serviced the 4 wheelers for the farmers and hunters.
Well once in Phoenix I stopped in a scooter shop that sold various labels. That changed my mind about what to buy. I sat on one of those nice water cooled scoots. My knees were right up against the front panel and nowhere to put my feet. I checked and it had a 55" wheel base. So I switched to the ones listing 66" wheel base. Back to the web for more searching.
At 78 years and a wife of higher age I was not in the mood to pay the much higher pride labels fees. Now down to Chinese built and delivery to my garage. Sight unseen. Pretty scary. But much cheaper and I felt worth the risk. So I finally picked four and settled in to making a decision. On was a Burgman clone front to back. Looked just like my friends Burgman 400. One was a 16" wheel with 200cc. Looked real good. One was similar to what I bought, don't remember the name. And one that I finally bought.
I expected from the add and talking to the sales person that it was new, thinking 2010 for me, but just never sold to the sale person. Price was in my range, less that $2,000 delivered, I had no idea which engine it had. Today I am quite pleased with what I bought. Just like a Christmas present, did not know what was coming but I like it anyway. Some early PDI problems that I posted here. Not many miles yet. But in January I will be living in Arizona and hope to start using it more often.
My issue is with the dealers and distribution system from the Chinese source to my garage. I am sure many have done as I did and without the proper order forms where you can specify certain items, engines are more important than the color for some, they should have engine specified in the order form. That way the dealers would need to send the proper machines to the buyers.
Oh well for me. I am happy with what I got. I would have preferred the newer units with the injected fuel. But so far not a problem with my older carburetor unit. I have driven a motor cycle with injection and thought that was pretty neat. No choke to mess with, turn on the gas, and start. Pretty quick starts.
Thanks for your links JR. Had I not erased my scooter search file I would probably have some of interest for you too. .

And you just said what I have been saying. If you want a Linha ask for it and make sure that is what you get.
My post about the Linhai was to show that Linhai agreed to someone to build them in China. But you still think that the Linhai is still a copy of that? Damn, is there no honesty in the Chinese scooter market? Well I hope there is and if I find the difference I will post it here.
Big confusion by the buyers and dealers. I really doubt that they just build thousands of scoots from junkpile warehouses. Look alikes and nobody knows the difference> That is the same way GM sells cars too. Several makes of cars all built on the same frames and body's with different engines and decorations. But they do know which car is which. So underneath all this confusion there really is some knowledge, just not made public enough.
I don't doubt your personal experience and knowledge by looking at key points. I am just looking for that link that makes these things legal, one way or the other. They have to be identified in some way for the various states in order to be legal.
