Today I finally had the opportunity to take my scoot out for a ride. Almost 8 months since my last ride so I was a bit nervous launching from my drive. But launch I did and went for a short ride around a couple blocks of my new neighborhood. I did OK but need some refreshing rides to remember basics like turn signal on and off. I am not in a car so feet must go down when I stop. I remembered before I fell over.
The temp was about 72 and with my helmet on I was starting to sweat in short order. Probably going to be a problem as the Arizona heat starts building up. I don't think we need helmets by law but I already have a failed skull due to a brain tumor surgery. Not sure I can risk a non padded crash to the pavement. Even a padded crash must be avoided if I can.
My 8 month lapse in riding was due to house hunting for many months and while doing that I also had lots of fun with Shingles and drugs to control the pain of Shingles. For a while they had me floating with drugs for spasms plus the pain killer narcotics. I would not even drive the car if I had just taken those medications. Then shortly before we moved to Arizona I had a bad case of the roaming rocks in the kidneys. I periodically have kidney stones but never like this before.
Sure glad I took this intro ride today. I feel better about how well I did after so long without a ride. Also, i am having more time for myself now that I have replaced or repaired many items in our Arizona home. More riding coming up. .

You made a good guess on my scooter. It is a 2008 MC-54-250B with a Honda clone engine. I have had it about 11 months now and it has 60 miles on it. I hope to raise that number now that we are down here in the warmer climate area. .

Hey Bob! Sure glad you're feeling better and can ride and never had any kidney stones but have a friend who has and I know they are tough! I also don't blame you one bit on the helmet either. Hope the dryer air is agreeing with you and you soon get all settled, moving sucks! Take it easy and don't get to warm and take some pics of your area and watch out for old Luke! JR

OK richardthescooter3, please let me ask a question about your scooter designation. It is a question I have asked on this forum before and still no clear answer. Is your Linhai machine really a MC-54-250B or might it be a MC-54B-250. If I look into the Rocketa listings for both of those numbers and then look at the parts list it shows the horizontal engine on the 54B and the vertical engine on the 250B. Or maybe it is just 54 with no B for the Honda and the 250 with or without the B means something different than the engine. All this number talk on this and other scoot forums drives me nuts. Yesterday I read where someone said that the Linhai engine had been dropped by Roketa but when I go to the Roketa site they still show it available. So yes, if you could double check your number and let me know. Maybe I should forget the numbers and just go ride. But when ordering parts or information that question can be asked. .roketa.com/product/productlist/2610.shtml" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">.roketa.com/product/productlist/2610.shtmlScroll down till you find MC-54-250 and MC-54B-250 side by side. Then on each, click on blue tag for parts list. Check the engines on the parts list illustrations. MC-54 is vertical Honda clone and MC-54B is horizontal Linhai style. .

Bob, on the side of my scoot says mc-54-250b, as I look at those engines it looks like the 54b, but it hard to tell, I'm trying to find the engine so I can post it.

Thanks Richard, that is exactly what my scoot says on the side panel too. Under your seat you should find some tags about your machine. Find the emissions control plate and see what the number of CC's is. On my machine it says 244cc and it is a Honda clone. If yours says 257cc then it would be the Linhai/Yamaha or a clone. Interesting that what the importer says is not what is actually happening. Is that Roketa's problem or the retailers that make up their own specials and names for them. Sure is confusing. .

Well, bob. I looked under my seat, it does say 244.3cc but my tag on the side says model is cyprus 250 motor, I posted the engine that looks like mine, but its the yamaha clone engine. I'm confused JR had thread to show the two different engines, they must of missed tag mine, for sure. My scoot is the yamaha/linhai clone engine.

Well I was just trying to show you how easy it would be to check your engine size out. Now I am just as confused as any one. Thanks for your reply as I am learning just as you are when folks reply to my posts. If your photo is accurate you do have a horizontal engine and that would be Linhai Yamaha. Check your VIN with this chart and it may help you decide what is real and what is not. .motorcycleforums.net/forum/tips-training/5800-how-decode-vin-number.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">.motorcycleforums.net/forum/tips-training/5800-how-decode-vin-number.htmlI have no idea if this list is current or not but might be worth a try. EDIT: Well it doesn't seem to work for my VIN so now I wait for someone to come up with a newer or better way to check the VIN. Try this for start. 2strokebuzz.com/scooter-vinsYou will find the first three numbers that tell us the country and builders. LJ4 is well down the list and is in China. Still looking for more info. And here is another that started but then asked for more information, personal help suggested. I had this on more than one place but seldom join or contact places till I know more about them. .cyclepedia.com/manuals/CPP-VIN/index.php" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">.cyclepedia.com/manuals/CPP-VIN/index.phpThey do have a nice chart that shows what the numbers mean on different formats. These search places start out OK and tell me some information but seldom complete as my VIN is not in some data base. My VIN is only 10 months old from my request for title so maybe it just has not been imported to the data base yet. Maybe I should contact these folks and have them enter my VIN into the data base. I think I will stop the search for now. .
