Now riding a trick [3 wheel bicycle], now 87. Sure miss the scooters. But the 90 year old wife does not miss me being on scooters.
Not much action on these forums. Best to all of you.

Just browsing around and came across this note by me. Finally seemed to have my scoot fixed and the wife wanted to move so I put a for sale sign on it. A guy from Arizona City came over and saw me putting things back on it. He watched while I finished and said he would like it and held $700 cash . I really wanted more but decided he was honest with his cash and offer. So we started it up and he watched it and listened to it. Then he took it around the block, came back and told his wife to follow him home. We did some paper work and gave him the title.
Later on, he called me in Ohio, where I live now, and said he finally had a good long ride and it ran well. Sure glad for him as I never had it run well enough for a long ride.
Yep, back in Ohio where I grew up and sure wish I was back out west where winter doesn't really amount to much at all. Already in freezing weather here. No snow yet but definitely cold.
It appears that many of those writers when I was her are still here. Also many names I expected are not here any more.
I hope this note finds all of you healthy and happy.
Maybe I will drop in again some day.

Where I live there seems to be a general hate for Chinese built and sold scooters. So I did what I could by ordering new parts and replacing the right side casting. Rebuild is done, engine put together and has now run to heat and allowed to cool twice. No leaking showing yet. Will run some more for heat and allow to cool. Will eventually get things to prove they are solid as is and then start putting the floor boards and covers back on. Might get to ride again.

Found the problem to be the right side crankcase cover.
There was a one vee shaped groove in the circular shaped part of the water pump area. It must have been made by a wrong set tool while being machined then filled with some 'magic' filler that might have held if I had not opened the water pump looking for possible problems.
I bought a new right side crankcase cover and have it mostly rebuilt right now but for the water connection that is pressed in. Not sure how to get that out, will try heat on the casting, later this week or on week end. If that does not work I would need to have a source of a new tube section that I could order and the do my best to pound it into the casting hole without breaking the casting. Maybe a scooter or motorcycle shop will be willing to work on 'part' of a Chinese scooter. I will ask but don't really think they will as they told me no when I asked for help before.
Will post again if I ever get the scoot running again.

I will have the same concerns with my wife once I get the scoot back together. I hope to take a couple rides around locally first then try to sell so I can get out of the scooter business. Will be 83 this July and since last April with the wife's heart attack and her new concerns, I won't fight it this year. Just hope it runs well and I get a decent offer for it when I do sell.

Agree. I have had a number of starts on the engine since rebuilding. Things were starting to run pretty good finally, then the dripping started. So I did the obvious and tried to replace the items, seals, but without good response. Have reordered and will try again.
Will do it much slower, more precisely, and hope for the best. I have started putting the covers back on and have the front panels fairly settled but can not finish anything till I get the floor boards on again first. So wanting to be sure the cooling and fuel and stuff like that are OK before I put the floor boards back on.
Well, ellpee, are you riding again? I hope you have fully recovered from your mishap. I guess I have missed riding in the cool weather and likely just get a few cool mornings in after I do get the covers back on. Those hot summer suns are well on their way back again.

I have had water dripping from the weep hole under neath the pump so I decided to replace the seals inside the pump. Ordered some and put them in yesterday. But now it is like pouring water in the inlet pipe and watching it all run out the bottom. No slow down at all. So what is the problem? I ordered the following parts from "Partsforchinesescooters.com". Items 2528 and 2529 .partsforchinesescooters.com" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">.partsforchinesescooters.comFor some reason I could not get an image to copy and paste here. Link to the page, type in 'water pump seals', and see the items I selected. They do look much like what I pulled out but now are worse than before.

OK, I tried to readjust the valves a bit.
I loosened the rear valve adjuster and was able to move it front or rear with ease. I moved it a notch to the rear.
I then loosened the front adjuster but was not able to move it front or rear easily. I had to use heavy pliers to grab the adjuster and pulled hard to move to the front or rear. It seems to be jammed for some reason.
This could be the reason for my running problems. If I can not adjust the valves, what is the problem? Time to do a valve job? Or just buy a valve section for the engine and do a top down tear down and replacement of the valve section?
DO NOT READ ABOVE - IT IS WRONG.
Today I tried to restart and then recheck the valves again. No problem with either valve adjustment so I now believe the tightness was due to the pressure of the valve spring against the adjusting mechanism. So again I have been mislead by circumstances. Back to wondering why the engine only runs poorly, if at all. I have tried two carburetors with the same results, lousy.

Finally have been able to get engine to start running. Had to do it with partial throttle advance and it will not allow to idle. Just runs at a faster than idle rate or nothing. It is also making black smoke as it runs and at times it will belch and bark, back firing for some.
Not sure where this will lead. Could timing be a problem or another valve adjustment?
Still wondering why I get coolant in my vacuum lines.
These problems work for both the carburetors I have had on this engine. So I wonder if it has anything to do with the carburetors at all.
Any and all ideas will be looked at. Tired of working on my scoot, would rather ride than fix.
All this is done without the air tube installed. Is that a critical thing? When air tube was installed I wasn't doing any better. Just occasional backfiring or short sounding like it would like to start but could not.

I NEED HELP!!! What is the proper way to connect the water and vacuum hoses to the Carb and Air ducts and Engine.
I seem to have something messed up as I get water out of the vacuum hose connection on the back of the carb, near engine. Not sure about the connections on the right side of the carb either. Been looking around in the web and only find the carbs ready to sell and no pictures of the carb connected from both sides, or even one side.
Any and all help would be appreciated.

Now today I was able to install my new spark plug cable and test the coil and spark. Today, with old or new, not one spark. This seems to be a progressively worse electrical problem. So one more cover needs to come off so I can see behind the panel at the wiring and check for problems their. I thought I had done that last summer but maybe missed something so this week end will take the front panel loose enough for me to see behind the panel.
The Honda book say it could be: For weak or no spark Faulty spark plug. Cleaned Fouled spark plug. Cleaned Faulty Ignition Control Module (ICM) Replaced Broken or shorted spark plug Will check again. Broken or shorted Ignition coil Replaced Faulty ignitions Switch After front cover removed Faulty engine stop switch After front cover removed
Why is this such a progressive thing? Maybe after I get the front cover off I will find out more.

Where I live I have found no one willing to work on Chinese scooters. Closest is Phoenix area and not many there either. If not running how do I get it to them? bobf, you have way more patience than I. I would've long since rented a cycle trailer from UHaul, about $35, and taken it up to someone in Phoenix who can fix it. Which of course is of no help whatsoever to scooterglutton, sorry 'bout the sidebar. Hi ellpee, been a while since I saw a post from you. How you doing these days? Hope back to well again. Even if I could rent a trailer for $35 I don't really have anything to tow it with. No heavy vehicles, no truck, not liking to drive in Phoenix let alone drive a trailer. That is $70 buck both ways, up to fix and back home some day later. We do have a couple motor cycle and scooter shops in town but when I talked to one they said no way and the other said we try not to. I might be able to go back to them and plead for some help, they may give it a try. Otherwise, I am busy learning while I struggle so not a total loss. Take care. I will win eventually.

OK, since last posting, I have put on a new fuel pump that looks much like my original one. Still won't start so I thought maybe because it is needing priming to get the engine going and then there will be enough vacuum to get the gas pumped.
Sorry, even with the priming cup attached to the fuel inlet on the carb, the engine will not even fire.
Next desperation has been to follow the setup and checking guidelines in the older Honda manual for their 250cc scooters. They had the same engine as Jonway 250cc scooters. Much has checked out real well. Two connections I have not found yet need checked, they come from the spark timing stuff. I did find one item that did not meet the specs so bought one. It just arrived in the mail. Does not look at all like the one on the scoot or in their catalog. My coil and cable is black. This one is bright orange so not sure if it is proper. Will try it Saturday and if it works, I am happy. If it does not work it was only $2.50 so no big loss.
Will let you folks know if it is successful or not. Others I saw were selling for about $12 or more.

Do a search for - 2008 Xingyue 260cc scooter coil - and see what comes up for you. I buy plenty from searches and usually in about a week I have the part in hand.
I am not electrical either and have been working on my HOBBY for way too long. My wife calls it my hobby as I have spent way too much time on it this last year. Just sitting in the garage with no covers on and chasing the problem of not running. I am getting closer as I have changed out just about all the electrical items with no luck. Soon it will be on the side walk with a sign - PLEASE TAKE ME.

Anyway, I have not had any trouble getting new parts in short order. Do look around though as I see prices from a few dollars to lots of dollars for the same part.
