Have to disagree with this:
On some DC CDIs I have seen helping guys out with their 250s there IS NO KILL WIRE there is only 1 wire on the 2 plug side only the power wire. And on these I think the kill switch cuts the 12V going to the CDI and that is how it kills it same as if turning the KEY to OFF.
BUT YES BY ALL MEANS PICTURES of the NASTY BAD LOOSE WIRE MY MAN so we all can learn something. Alleyoop

Are you talking about the CDI TRIGGER WIRE and the HOTWIRE going to the CDI? If so yes it would light up with the key on because that is a DC CDI and is fed 12V from the battery when the ignition is ON. The trigger you will always get a dim light BUT the trigger should be tested cranking the motor over not not running.
Also I noticed on that plug pic you put up some wires do not look like they are plugged in all the way just a thought. Alleyoop

Got to tell you if your 150 MC hits 55-60 already that is EXCELLENT and especially at your weight. Most 150s will not go beyond 55 some maybe 50-52 etc.. Does your have a tach on it if so what rpms does it say it at TOP END SPEEDS? To get some more get up and go it would need more rpms Lighter weights but not to light otherwise you will loose top end speed. Alleyoop

You are missing a small RED WIRE going to the POSITIVE TERMINAL on the battery that feeds the IGNITION SWITCH that is the wire that has the 15amp fuse. So it is lying there someplace and you need to put it on the POSITIVE post of the Battery along with the THICK RED WIRE that goes to one of the SOLENOID terminals and the other to the STARTER. Are you sure you are not getting SPARK after you ride it and it dies on you? From what you mentioned that it starts back up after a cool down, it sure is acting like your valves are not sealing and need to be adjusted. After a ride they get really hot and when coming to a stop the motors will usually die then they will not start until a cool down.
Just to make sure that the plug is NOT firing. You have taken the SPARK PLUG out and Grounded it to the MOTOR and cranked it over right to see if its sparking right? IF SO then also check the ground wire from the motor to the frame if the ground wire is broken or bad that will also cause a no spark. Also test the SPARK PLUG to see if it fires when holding it to the FRAME and see if it sparks there. Alleyoop

Mild upgrades... A little better performance, ive seen that some upgrades are good to make just because of inferior parts, but ive already ordered new performance cdi coil and spark... Ive seen some talk on replacing airfilter.".but really looking for simple improvements than can be made without having to take apart the engine..mostly "plug n play" type of improvements A little more performance where do you want a little more performance? Are you looking for more TOP END SPEED, MORE GET UP AND GO from the START etc.. Each type requires different flavors of things so you have to be specific. Alleyoop

Sounds like your valves are tight and when hot they are not sealing and that makes the motor loose compression and they will die. After this happens do you have to wait some minutes say 20 or so before it will start again? If so the motor needs to have the valves adjusted both to .004 inch gap or .08mm. IN the video he is using .05mm that is to tight for a 150cc. Alleyoop
