On the way home from the store the other night my dash lights and head lights went out. All other lights work ok (brake, blinker,etc) I do have a highbeam/pass switch and when I push down on the switch the headlights come on. The only fuse I can find is the one attached to the battery and that fuse tested ok. Do I need to replace the small bulbs in the headlights is my question? Thank you & Merry Christmas Mimi

This is the typical Chinese headlight setup but first we need to check for other things. Now the lights you mentioned that work all work off of the battery with the key on while the head, tail and instrument lights all work off of the R/R with the scooter running. For them to all of a sudden go out 9 out of 10 times it's a plug come loose or bad connection. Do this start the scooter and see if the tail lights come on, if they do that tells us the R/R is putting out and we need to look at the connections in the front area where the head lights plug in to the harness. If not then we need to look at all the plugs and connections in the R/R area. JR

The R & R is the Rectifier/Regulator which rectifies (converts) the AC voltage to a DC voltage and feeds it to the voltage Regulator which regulates the DC voltage to the proper level.

I'll ask this again, when you start the scooter do the tail lights, (not brake) work?

Is the R & R near the motor?

Most of the time it's either up front behind the headlight cowling (plastic) or on the right side (muffler side) behind the side panel. One sometimes can lay down and look up and see it bolted to the frame. Unfortunately it's most of the times not easy to get to without removing some plastic.
Now I'm presuming this happened all of a sudden? Now that you tell me you have no tail lights I'm sure it's a pulled loose connection (plug) or broke wire.
You see the tail and head lights run off of the same circuit and now that you said the bulbs are good and you have no tail lights either it's almost a sure bet you have troubles in the R/R area because 99% of the time the head/tail light connection is in the area.

My dad wanted me to ask you about 2 wires in the headlight assembly. 1 wire is green and the other is black. They look like connectors. Do we do anything with these?

Nope that is a accessory plug. If you turn the key on and put your volt meter on them you will read 12Vdc +.
Black = 12Vdc + Green = ground
If the tail and head lights are both out then start looking at the wires/plugs around the R/R area particularly the brown or yellow wire/s.
Money says it's in this area.
