You do not have to take the tir off the rim to put in a new Air Valve Stem, just deflate the tire and squeeze one side of the tire where the valve stem is and you can reach in there and take the old one out and put in the new one. If you would have mentioned what you were going to do is just put on a New Valve stem I could of put up a Video on how to do that for you. Alleyoop

All that you said is just AIR TO FUEL mixture problem that is all and from what you said it is due to temp changes and air density at the time. You can adjust a carb to handle pretty much both extremes of temp and air density but they will always run better when it is cooler than when hot. Now a car has a computer to adjust for this but our carbs are fixed so you have to adjust them to run pretty good in both sides of the temps and air density. Alleyoop

Good that it is running good now, but I have to say if it started to act up and then you backed off the throttle and it settled down then it was to RICH to much fuel. IF when you backed off the throttle a little the sped up it was to LEAN. There are tricks of the trade I put up here in the TIPS AND TRICKS section and or AIR AND FUEL SECTION that tells you what the MOTOR needs either by the sound it makes or like the trick of the trade I just mentioned. The carbs on these scoots are really pretty simple and only a couple of things gets them out of sync with the amount of air and fuel.
It could save you lots of time and money if you guys would check out the info on here. Alleyoop

SCOOTER DO NOT LIKE WATER It can short out or ground out things and problems start until everything dries. The 244cc motors have been around for decades they are very good motors very reliable. Alleyoop

If it runs and after you ride it and the motor gets hot and when coming to stops it dies the problem is most likely the Valves need to be adjusted if so Adjust them both to .004 inch.
If it was stored for more a long time and it had gas in it the problem could be that the carb needs some cleaning. Leaving gas in the carbs the tiny holes varnish up and block the fuel from flowing. If it starts ok and then within 3-4 minutes it dies then that is most likely the problem that the carbs Pilot Jet and Passage need to be cleaned.
But please explain exactly what is happening, the run and die when does it happen need detail to diagnose your problem. So explain what you do and when does it die after certain minutes after starting it cold or after you ride it etc.. A Video if you can will also help if you cannot explain it clearly. Alleyoop

Very nice JR we should all share info to help the guys with their scooter problems. After all that is what GOOD FORUMS are for. One site might have a good mechanical person that knows about certain things and or certain type of scoots while another site might have a good electrical person etc.. Alleyoop

That is a Classic case of the valves need to be adjusted. Set them both to .003 inchs then you will have to re-adjust the carbs fuel ratio mixture. They should idle no higher than 1800 rpms usually they will idle at around 1500 rpms once the ENRICHER cuts off the extra fuel when started cold. Alleyoop

Also squeezing the brake to start is a safety feature. You never know if the throttle is stuck open and would create quite an exciting lurch forward when first started without the brake on Alleyoop

The motor look at it and see if it is a VETICAL HEAD or HORISZONTIAL. The reason they probably put a toggle switch on the fan is because it is not coming on automatically. Probably the Sensor is not working and they did not trust it so it was causing the fan not to come on and overheating. So with the toggle switch when they see the temp climbing they hit the toggle switch to turn on the fan to cool it down. Alleyoop
