I just finished up a problem of the same sort with a linhai engine and the culprit was the ground wire from the frame to the motor. Check that out and see if that is the problem.

If you touch both terminals on the SOLENOID does it spin your starter? Alleyoop

In another thread here recently the GROUND connection from the starter motor to the frame, or maybe engine, was bad. Might check that if you haven't already.

Since this is a 244cc HELIX the valve adjustments are on the outside can you take a picture of the valve adjusters?
Also let me ask this can you turn the motor over by HAND with a wrench on the VARIATOR, turning it COUNTER CLOCKWISE through the compression stroke and the intake strok in other words several turns of the variator? Alleyoop

I know the valve adjustments are on the outside I want to see where you have them set. Take a picture of them ALSO take a picture of your Solenod. Are you sure you have the Solenoid wired correctly? alleyoop

hi Allyoop my selonoid was fried the bike shop had to order one so they lend me a second hand one. i've it in starter only spin when outside. the engine felt stiff when turning over by hand so i've put teaspoon of oil in plug hole better after that. took the crank case of and i suspect the gear between starter Bendix end flywheel was misaligned. will put everything back tomorrow and see if the engine will turn over. i think it should be easier if i leave the starter in its place aligned the gear on bendix and flywheel then put the crank case on because if i fit the starter afterwards it looks like i push the gear out of position. hopefully will have some success tomorrow

The Idler Gear which you are calling the BENDIX is what engages the CLUTCH STARTER and which the STARTER TURNS. The shaft on that fits into a hole in the INSIDE OF THE COVER you take off so it is aligned straight and holds it in. Alleyoop
