scooterdoc.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=250cc&action=display&thread=8061A fuel pump would be on the list of things that could cause this but there are others. Since you know it will run by putting gas in we now know it's not a firing issue. Just like in all mechanics most of the time it's a process of elimination to find the problem and just buying and putting parts on one isn't the best approach like some do IMO. So here is some things to check. To check fuel pump output simply pull the fuel line from the side of the carb and place it in a container you can clearly see through and turn the engine over and it'll either tell you the fuel pump is bad by the lack of or good fuel flow. Or....... It could mean a totally stopped up fuel filter which you can see by removing the right side panel. I know you really maintain your scooter but it's possible to pull up to a station and get a tank full of crud and stop the filter up. If when you remove the fuel line and you do indeed get good fuel flow then the next step is to simply without having to remove the carb is pull the top diaphragm cover off and inspect the diaphragm for holes or a tear. But I'm leaning against this if the scooter will not even idle, reason? Even if the diaphragm is out it doesn't control the idling of the scooter. If you have good fuel flow and it won't even idle you've got a totally clogged idle jet and you'll need to pull the carb and clean it out. My wife was on a trip to see her sister once and she pulled up to a stop sign and just like yours it died. I would idle but if you even looked at the throttle it would die. Had a good fuel filter and such but the high speed jet was totally clogged and the idle jet partially clogged. Cleaned it all up, drained the tank, new filter and all was well. Gas really didn't look bad at all so I put it at a slow clogging over time. If it is the fuel pump I highly recommend the Mikuni: .ebay.com/itm/NEW-MIKUNI-FUEL-PUMP-DF44-211-SINGLE-OUTLET-FITS-MANY-/310676643610?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4855c55f1a&vxp=mtr" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">.ebay.com/itm/NEW-MIKUNI-FUEL-PUMP-DF44-211-SINGLE-OUTLET-FITS-MANY-/310676643610?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4855c55f1a&vxp=mtrWe're here to help. Thanks JR, my trouble begins with climbing hills or WOT, it will choke and shut off, the other day I was at WOT going up high when it shut off, pulled and unloosen cap on diaphragm and gave it a squirt of gas and tighten back up, it ran until it used up the extra fuel then shut off and you could crank it and nothing, so left it a my friends house over night, had my buddy haul it home the next morning, what was funny was my buddy ask me to try to start scoot, fire up first crank like nothing was wrong, so today I thought I'll take it to work, (yep as soon as I got to 50mph it stated to choke and if I can feel it coming on and back off throttle it recovered itself, so I turn around and headed back home, the whole time like it was starving for gas, tonight I thought I'd try adjusting the a/f because what alleyoop says about when backing off throttle and it recovers, (maybe I'm still running too rich, so for the passed hour I've been testing going up a hill in our town and adjusting each time, not sure yet but I got it from a dead stop to 60mph in 30 seconds. will do more testing tomorrow.

That's what funny about all of this, scoot won't even idle right, acting like it wasn't getting enough gas, let set today come home fires right up like nothing was wrong, that's the confusing part.

Single outlet? I don't see one labeled as a S2? Reason I ask is one can get a rebuild kit for Mikunis generally for around $7. Again take the line off put it in a clear container and watch the fuel flow. I know a lot of people say the WOT starvation thing, myself I've never had this issue even with the cheap OEM fuel pumps which I still have on both of my linhias. Richard I also ride in a lot of hills, just 45 seconds away is the foot of Petit Jean MT. When my wife and I ride up it in a 1-1/2 mile stretch up the mountain it rises 900 ft which is a dang good climb. Never stall hesitate or have issues. Question? have you ever checked the float setting? If the float is off and not letting enough fuel in the bowl this can be a WOT problem. .thescooterprofessor.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=afcall&action=display&thread=254" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">.thescooterprofessor.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=afcall&action=display&thread=254Awhile back I was looking up a Mikuni pump for a member on Ebay and ran across a deal I couldn't turn down. Someone was clearing out their inventory and I bought 4 of the Mikuni DF-44 pumps for $20 and free shipping. All my scooters are 08 models except my wife's 07 and I put one on my son's Bali 150 and it helped give it a little more ump, at least it seemed to? Just because my fuel pumps are old I'm going to put those on next time I put on a filter. Some say electric fuel pumps, myself I'm not a fan, never had a need and if your float is off the electric pump will not help that. Also if the needle ever has a issue the electric pump will have too much pressure and flood the engine, never a issue with a vacuum pump as it is dead when the engine is off. JR

JR, today started scoot and then shut if off removed my gas line to carb and crank my scoot. gas came out, not squirting but still dribbling out. I just adjusted my float on carb not to long ago. One thing I've never done is clean my jets in my carb. another thing I got to check out is my scoot sometime feel like the clutch is still engaged even after I stop, I did replace the main torque spring some time ago.

Looking at it I would say it looks ok? Refer to the tutorial I listed, the picture is a little fuzzy Richard. Really do need to clean the jets, for sure it'll not hurt anything.
Yes you need to solve the clutch problem but it has nothing to do with it dying? I do want you to check out the CDI in particular the black 12Vdc feed wire from the ignition. Take a tiny glasses type screwdriver and insert it in the end of the plug on the tiny slot which will been the one way locking tang back and allow you to remove the wire and make sure it is getting good connection and you can take as pair of needle nose pliers and make sure the brass female blade pin holder is tight when the plugin is inserted in the CDI. Any interruption of the voltage no matter how slight will cause an immediate stall or shut down.

Just look at the CDI and the wire your talking about is loose. I'll try to fix that tonight and I'm going to clean carb and jets Sunday.
