Good things to do Richard and it'll just eliminate a couple things that could be the problem.

Yes you can, a very good cleaner, be sure to look at all the little holes and high pressure air is good to use.

Clogged jets are probably the problem, leave the fuel pump alone for now. You might want to add some fresh gas and a little seafoam as a good measure.

Richard, sure hope a little cleaning takes care of problem. If ur like me I don't like to buy parts if I don't have to. JR usually calls it. I isolated my problems down that carb and eng were ok but tank to carb wasn't so I switched to elec instead of vacumn and all the problems disappeared instantly. You very well may be ok now. Sounds like some junk got thru ur filter.Do u have the Linhai or Honda engine. I have the Linhai 257 and it sure is a sweet running work horse. Matter of fact, the entire JCL machine has performed excellent for the last 5 years. I would buy another in a heart beat. Barnie

Well, test drove scoot today, had hardly any throttle reset my diaphragm and I got my throttle back, got up to 50mph (Yep shut off again pulled over took hose off intake sprayed some carb cleaner in and it will start for a few seconds and then just crank, check fuel filter and it looks good and full of gas, its only about a 12" from carb, carb not getting gas.

Richard, can u rig up a small tank like off of a lawnmower/weed eater etc and place it under seat and let it gravity feed the carb. If it runs ok u will know the carb and engine is ok and the problem is in your fuel supply system. Is there any chance the outlet at the bottom of tank culd be restricted. Will gas run freely if u disconnect the hose on the tank outlet. Even tho the filter shows gas, you just may not be getting enough gas due to vac line from manifold to pump leaking, pump weak or collapsing fuel line. I am sure the problem is simple and going to be inexpensive to fix when u nail it down. Let us know. Barnie

Hi Barnie, going to check gas tank hose to fuel pump tomorrow, just getting frustrated ;-X I know it took a long to to start scoot after carb was placed back on, had to keep spraying in intake for it to start. I know if you get the gas in carb it does run.

its only about a 12" from carb, carb not getting gas.
Good Morning Richard:
Just got back home from Disney trip and noticed this. Myself I always put the fuel filter between the gas tank and fuel pump and never inline to the carb, to each his own.
Yes I know it's a PITA to get to as far as changing but my reason is simple, if the filter stops up it'll stop most of the junk from entering the fuel pump too.
I would say at this point it's obvious, the fuel pump is bad/going bad and /or stopped up. The clogged jets happened over time more than likely? I have a felling if you drain the tank and open up the fuel pump you'll find it full of junk too?
Remember you can buy a rebuild kit for the Mikunis or buy a new pump. I would consider moving filter and running a new solid line to the carb.
