Made me go out and look at my tires !!!! Went to a cycle shop the other day and asked them if they could change a tire on an aluminum rim . They said, " YEP " if I bring in just the tire and rim. How much ? $30.00 I didn't think that was too bad . Any input ? $30 to mount a tire, and they don't do the wheel R and R? Ouch! You might get a better deal if you bought the tire from them. You can get a small tire machine from HF for $60 or so. Two tire changes at home and the tool is free.

A question -- have you checked the BMV regulations about light color placement? All red under glow is really nice but you may run into legality problems with red lights running on the front of the scooter.

Note the rings farthest from the combustion chamber were welded to the piston. The way there can be that kind of damage is to run it until it is out of oil.
Break it in hard so the rings seat well but don't flog it, and watch the oil level more carefully. Don't flog it after break in either.

Yes Alley, but when they are on a motorcycle, that doesnt do me any good. Cant really compare motorcycle and scooter engines with that muffler. How true. Fire up your lawnmower and start punching holes in the muffler. That should give you a really good sound preview.

Windshield

OK, here is the drill for a DIY windshield: Take your old windshield off and place it flat on a piece of 3/16 inch polycarbonate (Lexan) . clamp it down until there are no spaces between your windshield and the new sheet of Lexan. Trace it out, including all mounting holes and make any changes in shape and size you want. Take the sheet of Lexan and cut it out on a scroll saw or use a sabre saw if that's what you have. Smooth out the edge with emery cloth. Drill, shape, and smooth out the mounting holes. Mount the shield on the center bolt and work your way out to the outer most mounting bolts.
Notes: Go to an auto glass repair shop, see if they have any scrap pieces big enough for your project. I spent $30 and got enough for two windshields.
No heating is needed to mount the windshield. The Lexan (polycarbonate) is flexible enough you don't need to heat it. It helps to have strong hands or a friend with strong hands.

There is a little more to it than put the belt on, finger tighten the nut, and whack it with the impact wrench. Done that way you stand a good chance of things working loose or pinching the belt and damaging it. I have an extra variator with no fan blades on it as a result of that method.
Take some extra time and care getting the nut finger tight. My method is to finger tighten the nut, then squeeze the belt, top to bottom, to loosen it and arrange the belt to make sure the belt is floppy loose around the variator. Finger tighten the belt again. Rinse and repeat until there is no more looseness to finger tighten. THEN use the impact wrench. When you are done you should have a belt that is pulled down into the back pulley and loose around the variator pulley. Start the motor and the belt will seat itself properly.

Make life easier. Get a new pair of bar ends with the tightening screw and go after the old ones with a drill, chisels, knives, pipe wrenches, what have you. If they are as tight as you found you will probably mar them to ugliness any way.

About a half inch side to side slop -- it sounds like the axle spacer is missing or in the wrong spot.

My experience with my scooters and motorcycles has emphasized the pay now or pay later schema. Now, if you are willing and able to do any inspections and repairs on the scooter the pay later part is mostly in your own labor rather than cash for someone else's labor.
To use a current example, my scooter needed a new back tire, a set of pads for the rear brake, and the left brake light switch. I recently did an oil change and will adjust the valves when I get a few days of decent weather. Doing it myself has saved me a bundle, and since I consider garage time just another aspect of the hobby I enjoyed the doing.
My costs, more or less: $50 Michelin Bopper tire $50 Tire changing machine $10 Brake pads $10 Brake switch $10 Header to muffler seal $130 total, more or less, and I get to keep the tire changer for the next time I change a tire. I was quoted more than that just for the tire, mounting, and balancing.
To emphasize this point, are there any shop owners out there care to give some idea of what it would have cost to have them do the work I described?
My 1700 dollar Chinese 250 scooter has been a good value for me. For the owner who is unable or unwilling to DIY their scooter and only touch the seat, controls, and gas cap it would be a complete waste of money.

Maybe it isn't gasoline, but water condensate being blown out of the muffler.

Greetings all, I am sure some of you know me from other scooter boards. I live in NE Ohio near Akron, where the tires used to be made and was the capital of West Virginia. My scooter is a 250cc SunL that is great fun on the road and in the garage. The older it gets the less often my wife has to rescue me from the roadside with the car, trailer, ramp, and straps. I've had it for two riding seasons and put 8000 miles on it. The modifications are functional but they are beginning to give a rat scooter image. I belong to a scooter club. .meetup.com/A-C-W-Scooter-Riders/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">.meetup.com/A-C-W-Scooter-Riders/We have mostly 250cc and up scooters and the rides can get fast and lengthy at times but in general we avoid the Interstates and we enjoy smaller scoots and slower rides as well. Guests are welcome.

For favorite sites, like this one, I disable Adblock Plus. The ads that support this site are not intrusive. Good luck with your banner design. Whoever is doing the graphics is great.

Anyone know how to remove the huge Scooter Professor banner ? Each time I log onto the forum, I have to scroll half way down the page to view the forum. And every topic i select to view, i have to do the same thing all over again. Meaning have to scroll half way down the page just to read it. It's really a pain in da butt. I have to agree, the size of the proboards banner is ridiculous. Use Firefox, Google Chrome, or most any Mozilla based browser. Go to Tools > Add-ons in the menu Search for Adblock Plus Install it, restart the browser Right click on the offending banner Block it Walla! No banner when the page loads next time. Maybe other browsers too, don't know as I don't use Windows or Mac stuff.
