IMHO the enricher doesn't enrich long enough to give the motor a chance to warm up. I have been thinking about installing a switch on the power line to the enricher so I can hold it on until the temp gage reaches normal operating temp.

I don't know the size but it's the only one Harbor Freight has. It is a visegrip with what looks to be about a 18" chain.

I used a breaker bar for the big retainer nut. Mark the threads first with a black sharpie.
I used a 1/4" drive socket wrench on the 4 variator rear cover bolts.
Ohhh and if you have trouble getting the belt to slacken up enough to start the big nut back on the shaft, squeeze the clutch pully open to allow the belt to drop and slacken itself.

Richard I bought a cheap chain clamp at Harbour Freight. The chain goes around the fan to hold the variator in place while you loosen the nut. Not too tight. Be careful of the fan with too much pressure. The big nut on the variator came off with very little effort with a breaker bar. I thought it was too loose and tightened it a little more when I put it back together. I didn't remove the clutch (pully on the right, facing them). Once you get the variator off, remove the 4 screws on the back of it and gently pry the cover off. Get ready for a real mess. I suggest you get a garbage bag and a big roll of Brawney paper towels. It's a very easy job but very dirty. Once you install the sliders, be sure they are in according to JR's drawing then screw the back cover back on and put it back on the shaft with big washer and nut. Lightly lubricate the shaft going through the variator with lithium grease. Be careful not to get any on the sliders. Don't forget to mark the nut where it sits on the threads with a black sharpie so you can tell when it is back on in the original position. Again, I tightened mine another 1/8 of a turn and used plenty of blue loc-tite on the threads. Oh and after you remove all the bolts from the perimeter of the clutch housing cover, there is one in the center, deep in a hole. I put a large screwdriver in an opening on the front side of the cover a gently pried it off. You can whack it with a block of wood and hammer around the edges if you need to. Have fun! Ernie

First test ride in 39 degree weather today left me with mixed feelings. It obviously needs to break in a bit so everything is properly seated but it did seem to have more zip. It felt kind of clunky but I'm sure that was due in part to the cold weather and the need for some break in miles. On a positive note, I drove it all the way to the gas station and it got me back home without incident. It was screaming up a long hill to my house, still picking up speed when I reached the top. I think I done good! Time will tell. Ernie

I was reading and came upon an article on how to make your scooter go faster. Here is a quote: Remove the restricting washer from the front pulley of your SunL's variator box. This will allow your scooter's drive system to operate with greater speed.
Does this apply to our JCL/Roketta/Etc. scooters?

That was the worst filthy greasy dirty nasty mess I have seen in a long time. I cleaned, cleaned, cleaned and cleaned until you could eat out of it. I lubed the tubular shaft in the middle lightly with white lithium grease and changed to a new drive belt. (had a Gates 856-23 in it already) Then I put the whole mess back together.
I wasn't able to ride it but it starts and once the belt seated itself, the back wheel stopped turning at idle. It has much less vibration and it seems to rev faster if that's possible.
It's supposed to snow tomorrow but I'll let y'all know how the test ride goes.
Thanks for everyone's help. This board is AWESOME! ;D ;D ;D

As I was removing the bolts that hold on the variator cover, one had a little jug on it with a screw similar to the ones I've heard mentioned as carb bowl drain screw. The problem is the whole hose came out with it. Apparently when I changed out the carburetor, I didn't reconnect it. Now I can't tell where it goes on the carb. HELP!!!

I removed all the bolts from the variator/clutch/belt cover and I can't get it to budge. I tried prying, hammering and an incantation but I'm afraid of breaking the potmetal cover. What am I doing wrong? I'm almost ready to listen to the little voices which are saying send back the sliders and faggedaboudit. Ernie
