I'm also planning to install sliders, I watch videos on this, but no one show how they losen the bolts to the variator and clutch. Need help. Attachments:

Richard I bought a cheap chain clamp at Harbour Freight. The chain goes around the fan to hold the variator in place while you loosen the nut. Not too tight. Be careful of the fan with too much pressure. The big nut on the variator came off with very little effort with a breaker bar. I thought it was too loose and tightened it a little more when I put it back together. I didn't remove the clutch (pully on the right, facing them). Once you get the variator off, remove the 4 screws on the back of it and gently pry the cover off. Get ready for a real mess. I suggest you get a garbage bag and a big roll of Brawney paper towels. It's a very easy job but very dirty. Once you install the sliders, be sure they are in according to JR's drawing then screw the back cover back on and put it back on the shaft with big washer and nut. Lightly lubricate the shaft going through the variator with lithium grease. Be careful not to get any on the sliders. Don't forget to mark the nut where it sits on the threads with a black sharpie so you can tell when it is back on in the original position. Again, I tightened mine another 1/8 of a turn and used plenty of blue loc-tite on the threads. Oh and after you remove all the bolts from the perimeter of the clutch housing cover, there is one in the center, deep in a hole. I put a large screwdriver in an opening on the front side of the cover a gently pried it off. You can whack it with a block of wood and hammer around the edges if you need to. Have fun! Ernie

I don't know the size but it's the only one Harbor Freight has. It is a visegrip with what looks to be about a 18" chain.

Hi Richard. I have used the chain wrench with success, but I prefer a heavy duty strap wrench which won't harm the fins on the variator fan. It's also good for the clutch.

Thanks cruiser, I got a chain clamp today at harbor freight, and some other items I needed for the slider job, and now I'm think about buying the strap wrench next time I go there so I'll have both.
