Simple problem, open her up and start tracing out the what will probably be a yellow wire tied in on one of the R/R wires, which should be yellow also. Since you are getting 14.5 volts to the battery and they get bright when hooking to the battery, you simply have a very bad wire connection. Also you need to check all ground connections, (green) and especially the ground cable from the battery to the frame, make sure it is free of paint and making good contact.
No do not run them form the battery on direct DC, system will not handle it and you'll end up with a dead battery.

If they hit it, have insurance why aren't they and the body shop looking for the door? Their fault, their dime?

It would be simple to fix the start system through the brake and if you're willing to do some re-wiring we can convert it to a standard 5-wire CDIU system but you would need to change the coil as well. JR It was originally wired with that circuit and I just taped it off so I believe putting it back in will be fairly simple now that I understand it. (read another of your posts) thanks.. Better if I can wire it through the neutral wire/light but that's not a priority right now. Understanding the the pulse coil wiring, knowing how to connect it using only one wire to the CDI if possible would be a big help. I'm pretty sure even though it's running I have it wired wrong since there is no advance. Curious why I would need to change the coil? & would there be other advantages to doing it "that" way? Ken First bike I've ever had where I couldn't find a manual or wiring schematic.
Missed that I thought it wasn't running because the CDI didn't match up and you was wanting to replace the OEM CDI with another system?

Know we sound like a stuck record but at 5k she needs the valves checked, classic symptoms.

Vacuum leak and/or valves need adjusting. The linhai does weird things when especially the exhaust valve is too tight.

That would be my first thing to check, the valves. Even if it's not them it takes one thing off the list. Troubleshooting sometimes is a matter of elimination and if the valves check out then we go back to the drawing board.

Missed the one about TCI/CDI, different ball game and the kill wire if I remember correctly grounds out the coil, not the TCI, would have to look at the diagram again, it's also possible that it goes through a side stand switch and then back to the TCI.
We'll wait on the pics and then we can clarify things.
