2011 Roketa 244cc (vertical) engine, on a run around town, starting/running fine in general, but 3-4 times as I came to a stop the engine would die, with a final ka-chuff sound, sort of a cough. Started right back up, but never happened before. Kind of like when I was first learning to drive a stick shift back in the Dark Ages and didn't handle the clutch/gas right, and it killed the engine, except this wasn't on startup, it was on stopping, and there's no clutch to blame it on (or at least not the kind you can make a mistake with). Scoot is approaching 5000 miles now, and has been running nicely except for my perennial charging issues that I have more or less under control.
Any thoughts on what's causing this?

Know we sound like a stuck record but at 5k she needs the valves checked, classic symptoms.

OK you guys, fight it out. 5000? 10000? Me, I vote for 100,000, really not looking forward to that valve thing, but I am at 5000 now and will be having to pull some plastic anyway to check various things, so que sera sera.

Hi Guys (or Gals) I am new here and totally agree with the valves are not easy to get to but once you are in it is a quick process to make the adjustments. Totally fixed my bike, I have a nice idle now.... Sweet, come on summer riding....

Well, that's a back-burner item for now, as we're back over at our summer place in Ruidoso. My Magnum will be my primary source of fun and frustration for the next few months.

I had a similar problem with my Reflex. Turned out to be the variator. One of the rollers had been installed backwards and it wore the slot to where it would occasionally hang up and not down shift and thus not let the clutch disengage. When coming to a stop it would try to kill the engine. I filed off the resulting burr until the new variator arrived.

One of the things I'm contemplating in the fall is putting in sliders to replace the OEM rollers (actually I'd probably pay the scooter shop to do that). If I do, I'll certainly find out if any of the rollers is bad.
