Back in the 1950's there were some foreign imports. Some were laughed at and others that nobody wanted to work on. So the maker of those that were laughed at opened up its own series of dealers and shops and eventually ended up with new designs. VW is doing pretty well these days.
Also there was another foreign company that came here with some rather basic looking designs. One was sort of like a jeep, had a large steel panel under it for off road driving. There was also a small size sedan 4 door with some basic features like a shelf under the dash. They too were snubbed by the US people and dealer and shop networks. Now they are really doing great. Toyota is one of the premier cars now sold in the US.
Both of those cars came through a very difficult period with names like foreign junk, made from beer cans, lousy designs, I won't touch them. In time though folks noticed the US cars were real oil dripping machines while the foreign made were making sure they stayed dry. Buyers started shifting. New plants were built in the US. Much respect earned with quality of design and manufacturing and at first low cost. Today they stand alone on merit and the low cost is no longer the magnet. The US manufacturers learned a lot from our foreign builders.
As far as I can tell the popular brands from Taiwan or Japan depend a lot on China for manufacturing those scoots, engines, or supplies. Their popular place comes from some good quality controls and customer satisfaction with service and marketing efforts.
Any hope for off brand scooters? Yes. Just as soon as importers decide to improve customer satisfaction with better service arrangements and the scooter shops become less restrictive on what they will work with. .

Good for you and the owls.
But don't sell your guns just yet. They might come in real handy if things get too tough. I think there is a bit of a rebellion brewing in the US. You don't need to be part of any rash actions but you might want some defense in case.

Take the scoot or a part to a local auto paint store or body shop. They should be able to read the paint and tell you the mix. .

Which engine do you have? Horizontal Linhai or the vesicle cloned Honda by CF Moto? If vertical you need to take off the small panel behind the battery. Two screws and lift off. The idle screw is the one with the spring under it. Easy to get to.
The information posted above is correct. Speed up idle till wheel is turning, then slow down till wheel just has stopped turning. .

What I did on my machine. There are some larger hoses just in front of the engine. I filled the radiator then grabbed those hoses and squeezed them, over and over, till the air was pushed out. Then I added more coolant and repeated the burping. More fill more burping, etc. The over flow tank on my machine was under the floor cover beside the gas tank. Open the trap door over the gas tank and the coolant reservoir and fill the bottle to about half full. Now go into the heat and cool cycles. After the cool try the burping and filling before restarting the engine for another hot to cool cycle. Don't put any plastics on until you are sure you have the coolant system working properly. Not overheating, temp gauge works, fan comes on. I have a yy250t with a vertical CF Moto Honda clone. I believe the water drain is the bottom bolt on the water pump. Slow drain and probably not complete at all. Also you could disconnect a low level hose. Or remove the water pump. Also might want to remove the thermostat to allow free flow when flushing. Then when done flushing put it all back together and start adding coolant, 50% mix aluminum friendly. Burp the pipes while filling. Then add some to the reservoir tank. Run engine to hot and let cool. Check water level when cold and add more if needed. Run to hot again and let cool once more.
If your engine is a horizontal one, I have no idea. .

That company sure has a lot to look at. Only for me I prefer LeatherUp for one reason only. It is closer to my near empty wallet. i make no comments on quality or availability, but my wallet cares about prices.

For years now there has been an effort to put responsibility into the court system. I believe they have tried to set it up to where the one whining and asking for court support would be responsible for the cost if the evidence fails to bring victory for the complainants. It is an attempt to reduce the number of false complaints, most notably against doctors.
Mauiboy, you are so right. I guess at first it was considered that the people would be honest and fair. But there have been times when laws have been written to make people think responsibly. Do not yell fire in a closed area when there is none. You go to jail. But today with so many thinking they can just do anything and claim it to be one of their freedoms, there may have to be another set of rules or fairness and responsibility added to the Constitution. This country is going out of control with these anarchist types of thinking. The 'takers' want everything they demand and also expect the government to protect them from broken responsibility actions. . .

One more question. What does R & R mean? I see a picture of several items and some cables but that still did not tell me what R & R is by name. I am sure it does not mean rock and roll but not sure what else it may be.
I followed this thread and am happy it ended well. Some more things to look at when I do my tear down this summer.

Recheck those fuses. I had a similar problem and told the forum that all was well. But one day I went back into the fuse box and found one of the fuses had actually failed in such a way that it was not apparent. The fuse link did not burn away in the open area. It did actually have a break just by the joint of the upright and fuse link across.
I replaced that one 10A fuse and all was well once again. .

Tornado alley can be expanded to include most of the east of the Rockies parts of the US and up into parts of Canada. There is even a area in Arizona where tornado happen. Where would we put all these people if they had to avoid a tornado?
Most of my life I have live in one part or another of the tornado areas. Ohio,Mississippi, Virginia, Colorado, and now Arizona. I have also lived in Virginia, Kentucky, Georgia, as part of my military life. Been very near to tornado's in action but never part of the actual destruction path.
It is such a random instance that there is no way to predict where or when, today or in the future. Some folks have hurricane's (been through 6 myself in Virginia and Florida), others have earth quacks (several minor while living in California), and some have wild fires (nearest was 7 miles away in Colorado).
It is hard to pick a stress free area to live in. .

What I posted was just a couple paragraphs from a very long article. Much explained in there but what I posted seemed to make sense to me. Cross hatch the cylinder to hold oil for the working parts break in. Always knew of this honing and done it on cars and lawn mowers. So why not on scooters? I never really tried to over analyze the use of a hone. It only takes a few minutes to do. .

damin69, that sounds like a good idea. Something I may try if I ever get enough time on my engine. I was thinking that I could do it through the under seat opening using a long extension with a swivel connector to the socket.
JR, hozers engine is the vertical Honda clone engine, not a Linhai horizontal engine. Sounded on your last post that you might have been confused. I hope not. .
