I probably had the same thing happen except in the morning my 2 guinees were still alive but wounded. They were squaking so I let the dog out and he ran off what ever it was. It got them out of the big oak tree next to the house and on the ground. feathers all over the place. Don't know where they spent last night, but they were in front of a neighbors house yesterday morning when I went to the senior center..

owls hunt just after dark and in the early morning hours be for the sun comes up it sounds like thats what happened to you, you dont hear owls comming or going their silent flyers, they make no noise what so ever when their hunting keep those guinnies in at nite the owl will be back looking for them travler1

Beautiful birds and like you said can be pretty mean. Years ago when I was in the cable business early one morning my helper and I spotted one on the side of the road and I knew something was up. He has flown into a car (and they do that) and broke a wing. We were about 30 miles from Hope Ar. where they have a animal recovery and wildlife center for injured wildlife.
I had some of those large orange marker cones for putting on the highway and my helper kept him distracted with a small stick while I slid up from behind and dropped a cone on him. We slid a carboard box under the cone and then had him caught, no more harm to him and none to us. We took him to the recovery center and months later I visited with them again and his wing was repaired successfully and he was released.
Very beautiful creatures.

This place is run by the game and fish commission here and any animals that can't be made well again and put back in their enviroment are taken care of for all to come and see. Lots of schools send kids to visit to learn about these creatures of the wild.

Good for you and the owls.
But don't sell your guns just yet. They might come in real handy if things get too tough. I think there is a bit of a rebellion brewing in the US. You don't need to be part of any rash actions but you might want some defense in case.

Travler, you are a good man!! I have a red tail hawk that stays on the property every year, foxes in my meadow as well as deer, all are safe with us. I agree with BobF, keep some of your guns just in case. Kinda hard to carry a bow in public!! Effective tho. There is an old Indian saying when something magical has happened between a man and an animal: "We have walked together in the shadow of a rainbow"
