J.R. , Is the family Ok in Texas ? After watching the Weather Channel this morning I remembered that you have family around the Dallas area. Hope that they are doing ok and weren't envolved in the many twisters that they had .

this is NOT meant to be mean or anything like that, BUT how can people live in tornado alley? cause u know sooner or later, one's gonna get ya.
when i lived in Myrtle Beach, hurricanes was the threat, BUT with them u can see 'em coming weeks in advance and prepare. We did have a few tornadoes touch down nearby, and they SCARED the crap outa me, and not much scares me. i have been held up a few times, while running rests. but even that didnt scare me but dang tornadoes scare me, ell that and spiders ;D
i understand some times u cant afford to move because of jobs etc. BUT STILL
glad everyone is fine

you learn to live with them! No worse then drunk drivers, people on dope, people on cellphones or anything else. When your number is up, there is nothing you can do about it!

Tornado alley can be expanded to include most of the east of the Rockies parts of the US and up into parts of Canada. There is even a area in Arizona where tornado happen. Where would we put all these people if they had to avoid a tornado?
Most of my life I have live in one part or another of the tornado areas. Ohio,Mississippi, Virginia, Colorado, and now Arizona. I have also lived in Virginia, Kentucky, Georgia, as part of my military life. Been very near to tornado's in action but never part of the actual destruction path.
It is such a random instance that there is no way to predict where or when, today or in the future. Some folks have hurricane's (been through 6 myself in Virginia and Florida), others have earth quacks (several minor while living in California), and some have wild fires (nearest was 7 miles away in Colorado).
It is hard to pick a stress free area to live in. .

I totally understand your point, its something I wondered when I lived in boring old England where nothing happened, but its always something thats going to get you. I live on a vaguely dormant volcano, we get hit at least once a year by a tsunami (and not the mildly lapping at your feet kind), we have earthquakes, tornados, insane flash floods etc, you just approach it as part of life. We have the worst roads, terrible drivers, drunk tourists etc. It's still a place I feel lucky to call home. You adapt how you live to as many of the dangers as you can, and frankly it's worth it. It's home, its my home and I'll take it for better or worse Just to be clear, this isn't an attack on your comment, I understand your bewilderment, just as someone who has been on both sides of the fence, I thought I might try explain what it is for me

As far as danger goes, I would be willing to bet that if you take U.S. statistics on life and death you could not prove to me that living in tornado alley is any more dangerous than other parts of this country. Right now I do not have the time to do the research but some one must. I agree, when your time is up........good bye!
