PA has a new law for 16 and 17 year old riders. See below. Act 84 Changes Affecting Teens Applying for Motorcycle Licenses As of Friday, Aug. 31, a new law takes effect that impacts 16- and 17-year-olds who wish to take the skills test for their motorcycle licenses. Under Act 84, which Governor Corbett signed on July 2, any person 16- or 17-years old who wants a motorcycle license must first complete the Basic Rider Course (BRC) offered by the Pennsylvania Motorcycle Safety Program (PAMSP). You will be covered by this change if you are scheduled for the motorcycle skills test on Friday Aug. 31 or thereafter. The PAMSP Basic Rider Course is free for Pennsylvania residents. It provides an introduction to the fundamentals of safe and responsible operation of a motorcycle and consists of 15 hours of classroom and riding instruction, five hours in the classroom and 10 hours on the course. Participants in the Basic Rider Course are supplied with motorcycles and helmets. Before they can take the licensing test, 16- and 17-year-olds must remain on the learner’s permit for six months and complete 65 hours of on-the-road training. Persons under 18 years of age also must show the DL-180C form signed by the parent or guardian that attests to the 65 hours of training being completed. The 15 hours of PAMSP training counts toward the 65-hour on-the-road requirement. Persons completing the PAMSP course will be issued a certification card and, if they have met the six-month and 65-hour requirement, can take the licensing skills test as part of the PAMSP training. Those who complete the training, but have not yet spent six months on the permit or completed the entire on-the-road training requirement, will have to wait until those two requirements are met before they can test. Once eligible, they should again contact PAMSP prior to expiration of their permit to schedule a final ride, which consists of the last five hours of training leading to the skills test. Please note that because of safety concerns, training is not available between November and March. To register for training and find the nearest training location, please visit the PAMSP website at .pamsp.com" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">.pamsp.com or call 1-800-845-9533, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to noon. There are nearly 70 training sites across the state. For frequently asked questions, please click here. JR - congrats! Wow you've got the makings for a huge T-giving dinner! Good luck with the surgery my friend. Winter's a bummer to be hurting but you'll be back in shape for spring riding, fishing and planting. We'll be thinking of ya!

I'm a Republicrat. I've got to be honest here folks. The way the fanatics are pushing their agendas scares me. A long time ago, I (and a lot of other folks) swore to "Protect and defend the Constitution" "against all enemies, foreign and domestic". Where do all these superpacs and multi-million dollar donors fit in?

Hunting with a knife? That sounds like something JR might try. I haven't hunted in a few years but I think we now have a spear season here in PA. LOL Jack! Hey USMCdoc - the state Game Commision denies they exist but folks have pix of cougars here.

JR - been busy. Working on the house/yard. We still have a ton of work to do. Today's an off day. Lots of rain & high winds this PM. I'm taking it easy. I pulled a shoulder muscle the other day when I was running the chain saw so I'm not doing much.
We were away at the end of August. My son finally got engaged so we took him and his fiance down to the Chesapeake for a few days.

I posted this over on Scooter Doc too.
Just a note to all. The night before last, the sirens over at the fire house went off. We turned the scanner on and the call out was for a motorcycle accident about a mile away. It turns out that the guy down the street was riding home after dark and a deer jumped out in front of him. He managed to miss it but ran his Harley into a ditch and went down. He wasn't seriously injured but was in the hospital overnight for observation.
We don't have a lot of deer around here but there are lots of cornfields and they aren't harvested yet.
Watch out for leaves too!
Be careful my friends!
