Love this forum. Hoping to get some answers and advice. I'm a definite newbie at riding. I have a 250 cc Ranger. I bought it used with only 900 miles. I believe he had it sent to him from California. It has been extremely well maintained and is in great condition. It only needs to warm up for a few minutes after starting and off I go. But yesterday I had a problem with it conking out at traffic lights. It also cut out on me if I took a turn at a very slow speed. What can be causing this? Is the idle speed to low? Is there a carb adjustment I need to make? Any advice??

Welcome Jbeeson, Good to have you on the forum. Well it could be the IDLE make sure it idles around 1800-2000 the 250s like to idle a little higher than the 50s and 150s. But from the miles that are on there I think the Valves need to be adjusted it is breaking in and the Valves seat and get tight and they stay a little open after they get hot and expand and loose compression. So if the idle is ok then adjust your Valves to .004 the TOP intake Valve and .005-.006 the Bottom Exhaust valve.
You will find that the EXHAUST valve is most likely the culprit that is tight because that is the one that gets extremely hot, and not so much the Intake Valve due to always getting nice cool fuel and air. Alleyoop

Alley hit it right on the head and welcome to the forum. That's one of the reasons I now tell everyone to check the valves when you do the PDI and some can go longer than 900 miles but some are just like you need it sooner.
We have a how to in the tech section so if ya need any help just ask.

I appreciate the advice folks! But I gotta be honest here, I don't know the first thing about adjusting the idle and intake/exhaust valves. Are there tutorials/videos on this site that show how to do it. I have not been able to find what I was looking for in the Tech section. It sounds relatively simple. I'm sure I can figure it out. By the way...Hey Alley, where are you in the Burbs in Chi-Town? I was born and raised in the NW burbs myself.
