I have a Kymco Grand Vista250cc. I had trouble riding with the stock windshield because it dumped air right into my face and eyes. I replaced it with a taller GIVI windshield. This shield is too tall and I am checking on getting it cut do0wn.
Now to my question. I have read many articles that say that windshields cut down speed and lower gas mileage. I have also read many articles that claim that windshields are more aerodynamic then a riders body. Is there any data on the aerodynamics one way or the other?

It would seem to me that since there are two major variables involved that there is most likely differing results.
1. There are different windscreen shapes and sizes resulting in differing wind resistance 2. There are many different sizes and shapes of riders
Another possible factor will be the power of the scoot. With a 400 cc scoot you may not notice any difference with or without a windscreen whereas when riding a 50 cc scoot the effects may indeed be much more evident.

And then there's riding style. Some riders only have two speeds on their scoots, standing still or WOT. Others (I'm one) can be perfectly happy humming along at 40mph or so on suburban streets and country roads.

I replace the windshield on my Reflex with a 5 inch taller one. Too tall, so I cut it off two inches. for me that is just right. As I recall the GIVI is two inches taller. i had ordered one of those but after several months they were unable to deliver so i canceled and ordered the taller one, had it in less than a week. yes it did make a difference in top speed.

I have found that windshields have helped to increase top speed a little and also has a positive effect on gas milage. But again that is just my findings.

I am a 6'3" person and when my scoot first arrived at my house I thought the windshield might be too short. I have a Roketa MC 54 250 which means it has the vertical 250 CC engine. So far, even though I felt the windshield was too short I have no problems with it when riding. It appears that the wind is driven high over my face. But then I do use a helmet with a built in face mask too. Maybe that is why I don't feel the wind. I will have to try with the face mask up some day and see what is happening. I prefer the face mask down and I really don't want to get hit with a bug on my face. .

I've had some REALLY big bugs hit my face guard, and also bits of flying gravel on a couple occasions. I don't have any eyes to spare.
