Right now I am using 45w 45w with the BA20d socket. The driving light burnt out on one of my headlights so now at night I use the high beams as they both work. I looked for a brighter light and on Ebay I found this bulb. cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270738163306&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_3073wt_1110 This bub still uses the BA20d socket so I thought I'd give them a try. I'm hoping they don't run too hot and cause a meltdown so I plan on drilling some holes in both rubber boot covers, which should give me more ventilation. Once they arrive I'm going to take some before and after pictures plus use them long enough to see if they do get too hot.

n4zou That was a great deal for the lot of 10. You won't be buying bulbs for a long long time. JR as soon as they arrive here I'll take the pictures and post them. I think I will use a 3/16 drill bit and put about 4 holes in each of the rubber boots. I don't ride if it's raining out so I won't have a problem with water getting into the sockets.

Ya know since we are on the topic of headlights I would like to interject here for a bit if I may....I did not have any burnouts thank god... But do have trouble driving home at night 5 days a week, at least for me.. Thought of several possibilities, first of which was extra lights which burned up my stator eventually, then HID lights which some people have had success with at substantial cost. I took off faring last weekend and adjusted headlights a little further out and am extremely pleased with the adjustments. It did take several attempts with taking on and off the faring. But heh I now have no intention of buying or making further improvements. I can see fine even with no moon or street lights.

With right tool you can adjust headlights without removing any plastic. I did it month ago. I did the alignment with this kind of tool (don't know what it is in English) The small one (3"-4" length) and screwdriver head-piece in that hole. Then you can use it with your hands without removing any plastic.

Trailheadmike, thanks for the link. Before reading it I never considered the sockets melting but the lens covers. I knew Bluefront had a 150 cc, but I am sure they use the same sockets in the 250. How important are the rubber boots? If I keep them off will I get enough air to the sockets to keep them cool? What may be a great deal as far as price, just might turn into a disaster.

I wish I knew the answers. My xingyue has metal sockets, and anecdotally others have not had any lens problems or any problems with the rubber boots.

To be honest, I don't think the rubber boots (drilling them, removing them etc) will have any impact on cooling. Their real purpose is just to keep water and other random stuff that can sling up off the connections.

Trailheadmike, are you sure your headlight sockets are metal? Without me taking the front off I can't really tell what mine are and can't remember from the last time I changed the bulbs.
Yoster, what about drilling holes in the plastic covers the sockets are in?

I'm sure it will add a bit of cooling, but not much. Ideally you need breeze running through it.. like a hole in the front of the lens AND the back. This is also kind of why us honda clone owners have cooling issues. There's room behind the radiator, but because there's not adequate air flow from front to back, it causes cooling issues. Have you ever owned a truck? It's like when you open up the rear window at the back of the cab. You feel almost nothing until you open up a front window as well, then you get a cross breeze.
Worth a shot though! Just keep an eye on things and make sure nothing is melting.

Yoster I'm hoping it has metal sockets in it. Not sure if the 54B has them. Once I have it apart I'll look for the best areas to dill holes. I'll keep a eye on them and with this constant heat it won't take long to find out.

Just a quick note. I have installed a pair of 60w/55w halogen bulbs in my 54B and have not had any problems with melting lenses or back sockets. I swapped the original connection with an H4 connection and also left the rubber boots off the back of the headlights. I did this change over about 2 months ago. The only problem I have now since the change over is drawing to many amps when the fan kicks in and at that the point the blinkers won't work but I can live with that. lol
