I had a similar problem with my Reflex. Turned out to be the variator. One of the rollers had been installed backwards and it wore the slot to where it would occasionally hang up and not down shift and thus not let the clutch disengage. When coming to a stop it would try to kill the engine. I filed off the resulting burr until the new variator arrived.

The one I had like that I was able to reach up by the fork and reach the adjuster. Or take the piece in front of the windshield and the shield itself and it is easy. Yes the come set so low they are dangerous, one can not see far enough to know if something is in or beside the road.

I suggest that you have the balance on that front tire checked. The one I had was so badly out of balance it took the maximum amount of weights to make it rideable. It would top out about 70 MPH.

Resin core only for electrical work. Acid core is not even used in plumbing work, it corrodes things near the joint soldered. And there is a big difference in brands of solder. I use only Kester resin core for electrical joints. Other brands that I have tried do not make a good clean and well bonded joint.

I am sure that the wind drag on that machine is something else. I put a 5 inch taller windshield on my 250 Reflex and it noticeable reduced my top speed. (I do really like it anyway).

A hardy welcome to ya! We lived in Sandy Valley about 50 miles to the SW for about 8 years. I put over 10,000 miles on one just like that (only silver).

Ellpee, the Jonway that I had would do that occasionally at 9.9 on the trip meter. I figured out that if I was gong highway speeds when it was supposed to roll to 10 it would. If I was going slow it didn't always click over.

Ellpee, I agree, there is no place like the desert SW. We have lived in that area since 1971. For the last 2 1/2+ years we've been full timing in an RV. This winter in Yuma where I ride virtually every day. As the weather warms up we will migrate northward and probably be in PA for fall colors before we head back south. Yes I know it is a tough life but some one has to do it so it might as well be us.

I wonder if you understand the physics of pressing a crankshaft apart and , more importantly, pressing it back together properly aligned. The crank pin is not splined or otherwise keyed to go together perfectly straight. Any misalignment would cause the shaft to "wobble" and cause all sorts of problems.
