I'm sure it will add a bit of cooling, but not much. Ideally you need breeze running through it.. like a hole in the front of the lens AND the back. This is also kind of why us honda clone owners have cooling issues. There's room behind the radiator, but because there's not adequate air flow from front to back, it causes cooling issues. Have you ever owned a truck? It's like when you open up the rear window at the back of the cab. You feel almost nothing until you open up a front window as well, then you get a cross breeze.
Worth a shot though! Just keep an eye on things and make sure nothing is melting.

To be honest, I don't think the rubber boots (drilling them, removing them etc) will have any impact on cooling. Their real purpose is just to keep water and other random stuff that can sling up off the connections.

Also, I've always wondered this.. but have we even verified that the scooter IS overheating? I wouldn't at all be surprised if the gauge and rad fan sensor are off.
I tried to shoot the head on my scooter with a temp gun awhile back, and the temp was like 150 when my gauge was at the mid-point.... IIRC. I'll try again this week.

Are the copper pipes getting hot at all? If not then perhaps you have a circulation issue; blockage or water pump.
Side note, where did you find that clear fuel-safe (assuming it is) hose that you connected up to that fuel filter? I've been looking for that but can only find clear PVC.

Thanks for the write-up Damin. Do you think it's worth others investing their time to do this? The cooling impact didn't seem to be incredibly huge. Any plans for further tweaking?

Any 10/40 or 15/40 automotive oil will be fine. If you already picked up motorcycle oil, then that's fine as well.

Woah.. has anyone else tried this to confirm? That's quite an increase in speed.. curious if there are any ill effects from removing that needle thing.
Anyone want to be test subject #2? LOL.

I have to say, if I could do it all over again, I would have gone with the Linhai.
In all the Linhai vs cfmoto debates, this settles it. The issues we deal with aren't just isolated to us; they're systemic issues. Right out the gate, in stock form, you WILL have charging issues and you WILL have cooling issues if you run at 55+ on a warm day more than 10 minutes straight (on this particular model with the rad location). Annoying.

I'm surprised you made it 3k miles with that stuff in there without it overheating!

Hello everyone,
I wanted to write about something I've noticed lately. I know a lot of users, regular ones anyway, (in fact I think I'm the only one) on these boards are not from the Fresno area.
That said, it is amazing to me how much of our work has been reflected in the scooters I see every day. I can think of several ideas that I've witnessed being born right here on these boards among us 250cc owners, as we learn and come up with new 'tricks of the trade' to get these scooters running better. It's these same exact ideas that I've seen, just last week in fact, implemented on scooters around town! From headlight modifications, to cooling modifications (similar to what JR did back on the ScootDawg forum), to LED upgrades etc. Many of which, when I check out the scooter closely (in a parking lot), are flat obvious that they followed a tutorial on these boards step by step.. which is awesome!
The most recent thing that came up was a user who was reading my charging post/novel, in particular my instructions on adding a relay and my testing of the stock R/R back on scootdawg, which eventually led him to Damin's OMP RR thread on ScooterDoc. He contacted me directly asking for help with it (since he also lived in Fresno).
So while these boards may not have the most members in the world, let me tell you, we have a lot of readers out there. I'd like to give everyone a big high-five for all your hard work and the impact you've had on other scooter owners! I don't know about you, but there have been plenty of times where I've thought "man, why didn't I just shell out the extra bones and get something a bit more substantial, like a Kymco or something" - but every time I see a Chinese scooter out there with one of "our" mods on it, it makes me smile and think "ahh, THAT'S why." Good work everyone!

Todd I think we're part of the same family tree somewhere back in our ancestry. I was just thinking about trying to tackle something similar to this a few weeks ago! (new baby has severely hampered my time out in the garage lol). .. Shoot.. on that note I forget to tell everyone here.. as of February 19th I'm a new daddy to a little girl Anyway, if this thing ends up working, wold you be willing spec out the parts list and where you got it at? Like the OMP thing, I'll be copying this if it works My next hurdle I've been running into with my scooter lately is exactly this, cooling (this 100+ degree weather doesn't allow me to go more than maybe 15 minutes on the freeway without needing to pull over to let it cool down for a bit). Looks great so far!

Thanks guys! Ya I need to get pics up soon. OMP RR is working great; charging issues are now a thing of the past for me.
JR it's funny, I was actually typing in "scooter professor" almost every day into google search, but it wasn't until a few days ago that it came up for me.. or I'm blind.. either way, glad to be here!
