Latest update, I was riding home from work today and about 2 miles from my hause I came to a red light. Scooter died. I tried multiple times to start and no luck. I pulled it into a circle k and tried few more times, nothing. I waited about 20 mins, tried multiple times then if finally came back on and stayed on. I was riding between 50-60mph takin it easy and blasted thing still died on me. This is really aggravating. Contrary to what the dealer mech told me yesterday Im stripping the bike down, changing fuel filter, checking all the vacuum and fuel lines, all the plugins to cdi and everywhere else, doing the valve adjustment while I'm at it.
The problem with my bike dying is always in the afternoon. it has given me problems when i first start it and it has given me problems while riding after motor is warmed up. Im beginning to think its allergic to sunlight lol. After i complete all the suggestions on this post and before I put this back together...Does anyone have any other idea (i dont care how random or off the wall it is) what else it could be so I can address it before i put this puzzlebox back together?
Thank you,

Thank you JR that information is very helpful in helping me understand my scooter a little better. this morning on my way the bike tried to die on me a few times but i kept a steady hand on the throttle and never let off of it which kept it alive. After work I drove it out of the parking lot and when I stopped for security to let me out, the scooter died and it took about 8 attempts to get her back on. I then rode her out towards the dealer by my work and again keeping on the throttle the whole time kept her from dying. When I got to the dealer I was looking for a fuel filter, he only had 1 size and they were $3.00, he told me I should change it about once per year. I had him look at the bike and he started it and turned it off and back on about 5 times and it gave no trouble. And it sat in idle without dying. He said if it was having trouble starting all the time he'd recommend adjusting the valves but even adjusting them wont fix my problem. He said I shouldnt ride my bike at 75mph...I've been doing this since i reached the 500mile mark on my odometer. He said I should avoid going over 60-65 max and that 55 is a good speed for these scoots. Basically he said the fuel pump works from the motor and since I ride it with the throttle fully open Im basically burning the gas without giving the fuel pump time to prime the carburetor..(if I'm even saying this right). He described it as a balance, at slower speeds the pump is priming the carburetor and the higher the speeds the faster its being used to the point that at slower speeds the carb isnt primed and acts like it doesnt have fuel. He told me take it easy and drive it around and after a while my problem should go away.
Has anyone else ever heard of this before?
Whid, where did you go to look at so many fuel filters?

Alleyoop, I just changed my gear oil, there was gear oil in there it was a little low. I also changed my oil again while I was at it. Ran the bike around the block about 10mins then when i let it sit idle it would try to die on me. when the scooter tries to die on me its habit not consistant. I took more pictures While I was down there. maybe you can help me locate this fuel filter... What is this hose for? Is this the fuel filter, its a plastic cylinder in-line... The lines coming towards me lead to this below...is this my fuel pump? I took the cover off and it was pretty clean inside: wheezy you reference this hose that comes off of my air box: and it is attached here: It does have a kink but it is not crimped and its as if its attached above the tranny. What exactly does this hose do and do i still need to detach it and let it hang? Bhinch you suggest it may be time to adjust the valves...I've had the scooter for 3 mos 2400miles. how often should the valves be changed and how difficult is it to do? thank you again,

Hi Whid,
Im in North valley by AMC 30. I love riding my scooter I've just had so many problems with it since I bought it and the warranties on these things are...well...borderline useless lol. I've had to replace my front brake because the ABS had a very slight drip, and I didnt notice it til it had little resistance. Theres a place my dealer referred me to over by 7thst and where i-10w meet. The gentleman at the shop told me that the ABS leaking is a common problem w scooters. So be sure to keep an eye on it. I also heard some rattling in the back. If you look on the right hand side of your rear wheel you see the silver bracket that holds the rear wheel. It forms like a funky triangle. I had the top bolt break in my engine block and the one below it wiggled out. My exhaust was rattling and hanging on by the one bolt closes to the center of the rear tire. Since your commutes are short I would recommend just giving each bolt on your bike a lil torque down at least once per month. what color is your scooter and where did you get it at? Also if you need help takin her apart or putting the puzzlebox back together let me know I've done it about dozen times already.
Today I road my scooter to work on the freeway about 25 miles one way..no issues all is good. On my way home about 8 miles into my trip Im riding about 75mph in the carpool lane (nothing unusual) and my scooter starts to cut out again like its not getting fuel. So i pull all the way over to the far right lane ease up on the gas til I reach about 25 mph...Im in the shoulder lane keeping an easy steady throttle and my bike is deciding whether to die or accelerate. it does some jerky movements then before I come to a stop it decides to go. i maintain a speed of about 40mph before I merge back into traffic. The rest of the trip I kept it at 55mph and during this time it sputtered a couple times but continued and I made it home. Now...during my lunch atwork today I put about half a container of that gumout carb cleaner into an empty tank and then filled her up. Here are my questions:
1. Do these things have a fuel filter, if so where would it be located? 2. How often do these things need to be tuned up: change plug, adjust carburetor? 3. with all the vibrations from riding could the carburetor fuel/air adjustment screws get loose and turn...Im assuming such an adjustment is possible? 4. Any other suggestions what this could be?
Thanks,

thank you for all the suggestions. Last night I took the seat off and put a battery charger on the battery. Then this morning when my father in law came over he asked if it would turn over. I have been trying to get it to start because it will start then die right away. So anyways this morning I tried it and about the 6th time it started and stayed on. I revved it up and it still stayed on. I turned it off and turned it back on about 5 times to be sure and no problems. keep in mind the only thing I did was charge the battery and that was because it was low due to all the attempts to start it. So I took it out for a few errands and a few times during my ride when I would accel from a dead stop it would hesitate like it was about to die before proceeding. also it doesnt feel as responsive when I accelerate. Do these things have a fuel filter and if so where would it be located? With this new info does anyone have any other suggestions?
Thank you

Well, I'm in Phx AZ and its not hot or cold this time of year. I ride my 2012 Jonway 250cc yy250t 54b 50 miles round trip every day. Monday night about 11pm I changed my oil from a regular valvoline oil to a mobile synthetic. I have about 2400 miles on it and bought it brand new 08/14/12. Today on my way home my scooter started slowing down and came to a complete stop. My gas tank is half full, the temp gauge never went above half way. I checked my oil and the stick wasnt wet. I dipped my screwdriver in and there was a little oil in there but it was not full like it was on Monday night. I put oil in and it still wont start, it keeps trying but it wont fire up. I looked under the seat and when I move the throttle I can see the throttle moving on the carburetor. I'm going to put the battery on a charger since its low now from the attempts to start. I took several photos and around the rear tire and notice a black residue which could be a leak. But its on the side where the gear oil goes. Here are my pics please give me direction where to go. I do not think its electrical but hey you never know. Thanks. Just replaced with this Here is the gear oil I changed this out at the 500 mile mark from breaking it in: Motor Oil dip stick Top right of rear tire: Right side Rear view of rear tire: Rear underside view of rear tire: Left side of rear tire: Left side top view of rear tire: Left side rear view of rear tire: Left side under side view of rear tire:

Hello, I had a similar problem earlier this month and I was able to turn the key in the ignition and jump my scooter at the solenoid. After all the help from this forum and many hours it was my main fuse. It looks good while looking at it but a testing light showed it was bad. i replaced it and all was good. I have the 2012 Jonway 250cc yy250t 54b. Not sure if its the same but hope it helps. ALSO from experience with other cars, after charging your battery you should get it tested to see if the battery is good. I have purchased batteries in the past that were defective to begin with. Try putting a voltmeter to your battery to see the voltage output.

Well here's the update. I took her all apart and checked all my connections to the ignition and the cdi and everything is good. When I start troubleshooting electrical I always use my testing light first then multimeter if needed. Well, Since I couldnt locate my testing light I only used the voltmeter as a way of looking for live wires. Well, going back to what you said JR. about chinese fuses are misleading...well, thats all it was. I replaced the fuse and started up just fine. The only reason I saw voltage on my voltmeter is because I had the probes on both sides of the fuses which was bridging the circuit. I appreciate all the help and advice. This was a timely lesson learned and I WONT make that mistake again. Thanks again.

Thank you Jr. I will place a batter charger on it and later tonight Ill start taking the bike apart so i can troubleshoot first thing in the morning. I have to have this done tomorrow so I have a ride to work. Now that I know what and where the CDI is....Do I Just need to make sure all the plugs are in or should i be testing voltage here? once I take her all apart and find this fuse to the ignition, I'm going to dremel a slot anywhere on this thing so its easily accessible lol
Thanks again for the help.

First I want thank all of you for your contribution and advice I did some trouble shooting with the information provided BEFORE i start taking this thing apart. Here are some pictures and questions. First...all fuses here are in good shape: Second: in line fuse from battery is good Third: Battery Voltage good Fourth: Voltage coming off inline fuse from battery: Fifth: Voltage at the starter solenoid looks good: Sixth: I used my voltmeter at the fuse box at got a reading of 1 volt. I couldn't find my light tester at the time... I did eventually find it and disconnected the connection to the fuse box and the light tester wouldn't light up: seventh: I double checked my light tester with the battery and its not my tester So with this newfound knowledge since I now know there is NO power going to the fuse block where does the rest of this wire harness go to and what part of the bike do i have to take apart to get to it? richardthescooter3 - I squeezed both brakes with the key in the on position and no brake lights. Wheezy - where would is the starting relay? Is this 10a fuse in the front end which part of the scooter would I enter to find this thing? Cruiser - in your picture, is the CDI the black thing with fins and a bolt at the top? Sorry for so many pictures i figured the more accurate information I can provide the better your able to help me. Thanks again!

What does cdi stand for and where would it be? Ive tried both brakes and still no start. Tomorrow i will see if brake light comes on. However even when the key is in thw on position i have no power to the stereo and my radiator fan does not come on (after a ride). With that info i would assume that even squeezinf my brakes the light probably wont come on.

Hello, I have the 2012 Jonway 250cc yy250t 54B that I purchased new 08/14/12. I have broken it in properly, kept oil clean, gear oil replaced, changed coolant. I had to replace my whole front brake assembly. My first minor issue is that my horn doesnt work, every once in a while when I hit the button the horn will work but its completely random. My major problem started a 2 weeks ago when I got on my scooter and tried to start it but nothing happened. I tried to power the radio but no power was going to the stereo. I moved the bike a little bit and kept trying and then it started up. A few days later same thing happened again but it took a little longer for it to start. Then last night it seemed like it didn't want to come on and after about 30mins of moving it around I checked the battery connections and terminals are clean and not grounding out. I noticed a starter solenoid and jumped it like I used to w my old cars and she fired up. Now since last night I cannot get the scooter to start using the push button feature. I have opened up and jumped it at the solenoid. This saturday I'm going to get this fixed however...before I jump into this and start taking this puzzlebox apart I would like some direction...First i'm going to start with the fuses and inline fuse by the battery. But does my issue sound like its my solenoid (how do i test it to see if its bad?)or is it my ignition? Since I bought the scooter I have never used the alarm or remote start for fear of it draining my battery or confusing my ignition (I read other posts before buying it). Please help. thank you.

Every Picture I found online showing how to do a flush on these scooters always shows the scooters fully taken apart. Here is a picture to anyone who is new that can reference the radiator cap location without having to take the whole bike apart... Hopefully no one else makes a fool of themselves like me and starts taking everything apart...but quality time with the scooter aint so bad ;D

Thank you JR. I was not able to find a Radiator Cap. It looks like my radiator sits just behind the front wheel and in front of the coolant reservoir and gas tank. If this is my radiator...then there is no cap. The thread refers to linhai's and to remove radiator cap underneath the seat. I'm not sure if this will be the same for my Jonway YY250T, and apprehensive about taking it all apart again lol. If that's what I got to do, then that's what I'm going to do. The tech thread mentions to open the radiator cap to fill w coolant and fill in reservoir. Let circulate and repeat, but nothing about getting the air out. How do I do this? Thank you.
