Hi I’m in Phoenix, AZ and I just bought my first scooter. A 2012 jonway yy250t. The dealer told me never take it over 45mph then at 300miles change the oil and gear oil. After doing this I have taken this on the freeway and I love this scooter, however now its having heating problems. After reviewing forums here, I decided to start taking the body panels off to do a flush. After removing the plastic guard in front of the radiator I noticed that there a couple dings in the radiator but no leak trail on the radiator BUT there is dried coolant at the bottom of the radiator guard I removed. I think this is from the overflow hose from the clear plastic fill tank, but couldn’t confirm. I did not see a radiator cap or drain plug so I first detached the hose at the bottom left of the radiator (sitting on bike view) and detached the same hose leading to what I think is the water pump. I spliced this hose leading to again what looks like the water pump and installed the “prestone flush kit”. I hooked up the garden hose and flushed the coolant out and the coolant and water came through the radiator plastic fill container. I turned the scooter on during flush so get all the coolant out and more coolant did until it was just water. I then turned off the water, again drained the water out of the bottom of radiator (same hose) and allowed the water to drain out of the “flush kit T adapter”. I then filled the the reservoir up with a coolant called “liquid ice”. Let the motor run and after it got Hot I’m assuming the thermostat opened up but the temperature went down and the reservoir was empty. I filled the reservoir back up and after a while the temperature got hot again but wont go down. I heard about burping and so I opened up the cap on the “flush kit T” I installed. Some coolant came out but never heard a “belch”. I topped off the reservoir and the motor gets hot really fast and stays off. If I turn the bike off for about 20 mins the temp gauge shows its back to cool again. I feel like I wasted a whole day on this and it has to be ready for me to ride on Tuesday for work. I need to know where is my thermostat, How does the coolant circulate (direction). Did I burp it right? How do I fix this so my scooter is not getting Hot all the time. Thank you. images.v12soft.com/photos/fox7BFV/5547480/File0_026046_800600.jpg

First of all welcome to the forum. Normally it isn't necessary to use the flush n these scooters but just draining them and flushing with water will do the trick. Also you need to replace the OEM coolant with a good 50/50 premix coolant free of all harsh chemicals and made for aluminum block engines, I use Prestone 50/50 premix in the yellow jug. And on burping this is your problem simply put air in the system. Here is our tech help burping how to; thescooterprofessor.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=cool&action=display&thread=24Done this way you'll get the air out and all will be well. The letting it get bone cold is essential and some find they have to do this several times but it'll get the air out. The slightest air in the system will make it act stupid. When I say the slightest if you remove the radiator cap and put any coolant in it at all then it had air in it. We're here to help and again welcome. JR

Thank you JR. I was not able to find a Radiator Cap. It looks like my radiator sits just behind the front wheel and in front of the coolant reservoir and gas tank. If this is my radiator...then there is no cap. The thread refers to linhai's and to remove radiator cap underneath the seat. I'm not sure if this will be the same for my Jonway YY250T, and apprehensive about taking it all apart again lol. If that's what I got to do, then that's what I'm going to do. The tech thread mentions to open the radiator cap to fill w coolant and fill in reservoir. Let circulate and repeat, but nothing about getting the air out. How do I do this? Thank you.

Is there a opening in your radiator? There must be some entrance for the coolants. If so you should try to find a proper cap for the radiator as they should be run with a few pounds of pressure to operate properly. That may be why you are having heating problems. Make sure the system is properly filled with 50-50 aluminum friendly coolant. Burp if recently filled. On my scoot I took the hose across the bottom of the radiator and would squeeze it repeatedly. Filling the radiator after each session of burping. When it would take a burping without going down again, I put the cap back on the radiator to hold the pressure. Mine runs fine now. My scoot is a MC 54 250 with a vertical water cooled engine. A CF Moto clone of the Honda engine. .

I'll holler at Cruiser, he knows where the cap is but I was under the impression it was under the cover over the battery under the seat? Also the burping for the vertical CFMoto is the same as the linhai. Air is air and do it just like I told you, everytime you remove the radiator cap top it off with coolant. I promise it has a radiator cap. JR

What I have is also known as a YY250T and the CF Moto clone has the radiator under the battery cover. Two screws and carefully lift off. Not a difficult place to look. .

Every Picture I found online showing how to do a flush on these scooters always shows the scooters fully taken apart. Here is a picture to anyone who is new that can reference the radiator cap location without having to take the whole bike apart... Hopefully no one else makes a fool of themselves like me and starts taking everything apart...but quality time with the scooter aint so bad ;D
