Well, I'm in Phx AZ and its not hot or cold this time of year. I ride my 2012 Jonway 250cc yy250t 54b 50 miles round trip every day. Monday night about 11pm I changed my oil from a regular valvoline oil to a mobile synthetic. I have about 2400 miles on it and bought it brand new 08/14/12. Today on my way home my scooter started slowing down and came to a complete stop. My gas tank is half full, the temp gauge never went above half way. I checked my oil and the stick wasnt wet. I dipped my screwdriver in and there was a little oil in there but it was not full like it was on Monday night. I put oil in and it still wont start, it keeps trying but it wont fire up. I looked under the seat and when I move the throttle I can see the throttle moving on the carburetor. I'm going to put the battery on a charger since its low now from the attempts to start. I took several photos and around the rear tire and notice a black residue which could be a leak. But its on the side where the gear oil goes. Here are my pics please give me direction where to go. I do not think its electrical but hey you never know. Thanks. Just replaced with this Here is the gear oil I changed this out at the 500 mile mark from breaking it in: Motor Oil dip stick Top right of rear tire: Right side Rear view of rear tire: Rear underside view of rear tire: Left side of rear tire: Left side top view of rear tire: Left side rear view of rear tire: Left side under side view of rear tire:

I'd check spark plug cap, make sure it didn't come off, check all the vacuum lines, check all your connections, CDI, Ignition coil, Check those intake clamps also, they can come loose

You were a little low on oil but there was still oil in there it was just a little low. The tranny oil you have a leak and it could be that you may have overfilled it and squirted out of the vent hose or seals. Check the tranny oil drain it and see if there is still oil in there.
As far as not starting check for clogged fuel filter and test to see if the pump is pumping gas. Take the fuel hose off the carb and put it in a container and crank the motor and see if fuel streams out. Also try and take the fuel cap off if fuel does not stream out, the tank vent may not be venting and that will stop gas from flowing out of the tank. Alleyoop

Alleyoop I agree that oil residue on the gear case looks like blowout from the vent hose. You can see it in the side photo. It is crimped by the shock mount. You need to dig that out and let it hang on the back of the gear case.

It may be time to adjust the valves....no compression or low compression will affect the fuel pump, causing no fuel flow. No vaccum...no fuel...

thank you for all the suggestions. Last night I took the seat off and put a battery charger on the battery. Then this morning when my father in law came over he asked if it would turn over. I have been trying to get it to start because it will start then die right away. So anyways this morning I tried it and about the 6th time it started and stayed on. I revved it up and it still stayed on. I turned it off and turned it back on about 5 times to be sure and no problems. keep in mind the only thing I did was charge the battery and that was because it was low due to all the attempts to start it. So I took it out for a few errands and a few times during my ride when I would accel from a dead stop it would hesitate like it was about to die before proceeding. also it doesnt feel as responsive when I accelerate. Do these things have a fuel filter and if so where would it be located? With this new info does anyone have any other suggestions?
Thank you

Hi neighbor... I'm in Phx too. I've been following your post, and learning along the way. I just got the same scoot a few days ago and I am so glad I found this forum. These guys are good! Where are you in the valley? It would be great if we are close and could "study together" here at our University. LOL I see you got yours 8/14. Was HOTT about then. I wanted to ask, because I am already thinking about next summer on this baby. How did your temp run? Did you hear the fan on a lot? And voltage? I see you commute 50 miles daily on yours. I on the other hand, commute 1.7 miles. But it is my only transportation, so I do ride it daily. I'm concerned with charging on this scoot. I draw more mAh off the battery than I can put back in it with such short run time. 2 starts, maybe 4 if I stop for anything after work along with bulbs and fan etc. I also live in a apt. complex and have no access to ele. for a battery tender. Thought about the solar ones they say can output "up to" 1.25 amps. so bet on half of of that huh.... But we do live in the Valley of the Sun! I'm going to go L.E.D. in every possible replacement. The math is mind blowing when you start adding it up... Plus a great post on here in the Videos. A different R/R with vastly better performance even with fan on. Anyway, didn't mean to get off topic. But would be nice collaborate on our scoots.

whid. since u have a such a short ride, not enough to recharge the battery, after starting.
this is gonna silly but. leave 15 mins early and ride that whole time even if you go around the block, at work a few times. 15-20 mins of riding will recharge what u used to start her.
i always worry about that, i start her then only go about 5-6 blocks and i always stop for gas before going anywhere, even if i only get .75 cents, always wanna start topped off. one of these days, at the gas station, its not gonna start.
i made 'jumper cables' off of thin wire. i forget the gauge, with lil clips. i can fit it under the seat w/o taking up to much room { like normal jumper cables do}.
BUT if you ever try to jump start your scoot MAKE SURE THE OTHER VEHICLE IS OFF i ask them to make sure the key is out of the ignition only had to use them once and they worked. wire gotta hot so watch that, its such a thin gauge.
as for you trickle charge, hmmm pull as close to your door as possible, and run a extension cord & if you think someone will steal your charger, well--dont know what to say about that
hope u figure it out

Hi Whid,
Im in North valley by AMC 30. I love riding my scooter I've just had so many problems with it since I bought it and the warranties on these things are...well...borderline useless lol. I've had to replace my front brake because the ABS had a very slight drip, and I didnt notice it til it had little resistance. Theres a place my dealer referred me to over by 7thst and where i-10w meet. The gentleman at the shop told me that the ABS leaking is a common problem w scooters. So be sure to keep an eye on it. I also heard some rattling in the back. If you look on the right hand side of your rear wheel you see the silver bracket that holds the rear wheel. It forms like a funky triangle. I had the top bolt break in my engine block and the one below it wiggled out. My exhaust was rattling and hanging on by the one bolt closes to the center of the rear tire. Since your commutes are short I would recommend just giving each bolt on your bike a lil torque down at least once per month. what color is your scooter and where did you get it at? Also if you need help takin her apart or putting the puzzlebox back together let me know I've done it about dozen times already.
Today I road my scooter to work on the freeway about 25 miles one way..no issues all is good. On my way home about 8 miles into my trip Im riding about 75mph in the carpool lane (nothing unusual) and my scooter starts to cut out again like its not getting fuel. So i pull all the way over to the far right lane ease up on the gas til I reach about 25 mph...Im in the shoulder lane keeping an easy steady throttle and my bike is deciding whether to die or accelerate. it does some jerky movements then before I come to a stop it decides to go. i maintain a speed of about 40mph before I merge back into traffic. The rest of the trip I kept it at 55mph and during this time it sputtered a couple times but continued and I made it home. Now...during my lunch atwork today I put about half a container of that gumout carb cleaner into an empty tank and then filled her up. Here are my questions:
1. Do these things have a fuel filter, if so where would it be located? 2. How often do these things need to be tuned up: change plug, adjust carburetor? 3. with all the vibrations from riding could the carburetor fuel/air adjustment screws get loose and turn...Im assuming such an adjustment is possible? 4. Any other suggestions what this could be?
Thanks,

Alleyoop, I just changed my gear oil, there was gear oil in there it was a little low. I also changed my oil again while I was at it. Ran the bike around the block about 10mins then when i let it sit idle it would try to die on me. when the scooter tries to die on me its habit not consistant. I took more pictures While I was down there. maybe you can help me locate this fuel filter... What is this hose for? Is this the fuel filter, its a plastic cylinder in-line... The lines coming towards me lead to this below...is this my fuel pump? I took the cover off and it was pretty clean inside: wheezy you reference this hose that comes off of my air box: and it is attached here: It does have a kink but it is not crimped and its as if its attached above the tranny. What exactly does this hose do and do i still need to detach it and let it hang? Bhinch you suggest it may be time to adjust the valves...I've had the scooter for 3 mos 2400miles. how often should the valves be changed and how difficult is it to do? thank you again,

Is there a recommended fuel filter to replace that one? Haven't gotten to mine yet but have been collecting parts all week for the big tear down this weekend. There had to be 20 to choose from with various dia. in/outlets. some had multiple choice that you could cut back and have an even larger dia. to accommodate your lines. What do you guy recommend?

Thank you JR that information is very helpful in helping me understand my scooter a little better. this morning on my way the bike tried to die on me a few times but i kept a steady hand on the throttle and never let off of it which kept it alive. After work I drove it out of the parking lot and when I stopped for security to let me out, the scooter died and it took about 8 attempts to get her back on. I then rode her out towards the dealer by my work and again keeping on the throttle the whole time kept her from dying. When I got to the dealer I was looking for a fuel filter, he only had 1 size and they were $3.00, he told me I should change it about once per year. I had him look at the bike and he started it and turned it off and back on about 5 times and it gave no trouble. And it sat in idle without dying. He said if it was having trouble starting all the time he'd recommend adjusting the valves but even adjusting them wont fix my problem. He said I shouldnt ride my bike at 75mph...I've been doing this since i reached the 500mile mark on my odometer. He said I should avoid going over 60-65 max and that 55 is a good speed for these scoots. Basically he said the fuel pump works from the motor and since I ride it with the throttle fully open Im basically burning the gas without giving the fuel pump time to prime the carburetor..(if I'm even saying this right). He described it as a balance, at slower speeds the pump is priming the carburetor and the higher the speeds the faster its being used to the point that at slower speeds the carb isnt primed and acts like it doesnt have fuel. He told me take it easy and drive it around and after a while my problem should go away.
Has anyone else ever heard of this before?
Whid, where did you go to look at so many fuel filters?
