I have never seen any performance gains in just changing to a K&N or UNI. You need to change the exhaust as well and up jet 4 or 6 sizes.. then you will see a gain, but the gas miles will also drop....
Some people use an oiled UNI inside the stock air box...still fairly free flowing and cuts the noise as well....just remove the stock filter and add some more intake holes in the stock box with a 1/4 drill

Sounds good Doug.. ya that hill will kill a new engine...even at 100 miles break-in, take it really easy...
Hills stress the engine more than ANY other thing...even running at WOT for hours...

I do the break-in like JR...and city traffic 'stop and go' driving is excellent.... however you need to run the scooter for say 30 minutes and then let it cool down. The hot/cool cycles is very important to tighten the case seams and set the gaskets...it also allows parts in the engine to expand and contract...
Use regular oil 10W30 for the first 500 miles but change it at 50 miles, 250 miles and 500 miles... after 500 miles go to 10W40.
I only switch to synthetics after 1000 miles... but others differ...

You would be absolutely astounded by how many people never oil their filters...K&N or UNI... No wonder the rings fail on these scooters in 2000 miles! Didn't mean to insult your intelligence or experience... just the vast majority are clueless on this topic... that is why I mention it like a dirty CD.. (broken record for us old folks) ;

Make certain to oil it with K&N oil.. the oil does the filtering.. without oil they are useless...

What are you talk about .050 is that metric?
The valves on a 150cc and 175cc should be .004 inch intake and .005 exhaust...
Are you certain you have the engine at top dead centre on the cam sprocket?

Check the diaphragm in the top of the carb.. it could have a hole or it might be twisted. There is usually a cut-out in the rubber edge that aligns with a tab on the rim of the carb...

You might try fixing the intake elbow with high temperature red silicone...it often works well if you can get it on the inside and outside and let it set-up overnight...

@ Evilgenius
Your Lifan have a 4 bolt valve cover with large bolts straight through the cover? Mine 2010 does...really weird engine, I have never seen another like it!
I agree... if I was to replace the engine in mine I would be going 250ccs..bolts right in...
