Me too JR...easier to fine tune IMHO...roller have a more drastic change in RPMs than rollers..
I have never seen any data on them, but I think they probably last much longer too...

Run them dry.. never use lubrication in a GY6 CVT...there are lubrication points but the rollers aren't one of them...
Yes the flat roller will effect the take-off and the top end...

Don't use both.. the flange gasket is far better...

From what you describe it is the CDI. The capacitors in these get weak and don't fully charge, or more often they fail to fire at a high RPM. So if it is sputter at 5000rpm I would look at the CDI. But it could also be the pulse coil... they can fail at high RPM as well... Ignition coils usually work or they short or open.. they rarely go intermittent...
