I decided not to use the "new" plastic covers but had new ones specially cut from perspex. As you can see compared to the sun damaged cover the new ones look pretty decent.

Am I the only one who's speedo cluster on the Jonway is suffering from a discoloration due to sun light. The spedo and ref counter plastic covers is no longer clear but a light caramel tint. I managed to find a complete cluster for SA 100 rands ($12.50) second hand but brand new (slight cracking of the plastic mould) one of the covers is also cracked but the other is like new. I tried some "suggested" remedies like boiling it in salt water but even a mild abrasive steel polish (brasso) did nothing to restore it. any suggestions on how to get it clear again

Little wonder they say Johannesburg SA has the best climate in the world. Winter at night is at 32f and if there is no cold front daytime is about 50f, no snow and in the summer it might get up to 90-95f

new rollers

Finally got around to service the Jonway. Been winter in South Africa I picked a lovely day all of 20 degrees C (about 12f)which is a rather warm day for winter. I replaced the rollers as I couldn't find sliders. The old ones were 21 grams and so was the new ones so I didn't expect a gear ratio change. The old rollers were slightly flat spotted and the kitchen scale indicated 21g for all. But after the service and the first pull off I noticed a sluggish scooter, until I hit the open road. Where normally I would do almost 6000rpm at 70mph here I was doing 5400 rpm at 75mph. So even though the scale indicated 21g each, the scale is what it is made for slimmers diets and not so accurate, the old ones obviously were slightly lighter through use. I can live with pulling off in "2nd" because after that the scoot pulls nice and strong.

So what then is the verdict to grease the sliders or not. I am most surprised the video dad does not put some grease on the bush (boss pin) surely any bush needs grease.

Why are sliders better? I also wonder if I should change the weight. Currently if I move along at say 70mph the motor is doing around 5600 rpm and ideally I would like that to come down. Should I go for slightly heavier sliders and what weight do you suggest. I only weigh about 158 pound (72 kg's)

haha thanx madcollie and yes this forum did suggest a "snuggies" that funny sleeping attire in which you can easily choke to death. Thanx JR i will be on leave as of next week so I plan some major service for the Jonway. The rollers must be shot because they have done 15000 miles.

Hi all I tried to open the URL bill.laudeman.com/helix/manual/index.html and it tells me the site is no longer available, in fact some other motor cycle concern took the web site over.
My question is what happened to the wealth of info and the excellent service manual that was honda 250 helix service manual, is it lost or is there another way of re-opening it?

Mauiboy the rugby and wildlife is great but the current ANC government is running this place down hill. Soon SA will look just like the rest of Africa, already corruption is eating at the GDP and our president does not even have a grade 10 qualification. Besides the US also plays rugby.

Hi all, as I will be immigrating to the US in about 2 and half years I took it upon myself to learn about your countries history. So I duly ordered a book called America by George Tindall and David Shi. It is a university text book, rather thick and I am enjoying reading it. Names like Pittsburgh (William Pitt) and Pennsylvania (from William Penn) now makes more sense. Your country truly has an amazing history.

I am a high school teacher here in South Africa and as I always tell the students when they finish matric (grade 12) I would say now don't stop there carry on studying. So Mrs. Ryan don't stop now!! Working in this day and age is a life long learning process.
I am also a proud father as my daughter who lives in the States and studying at George Mason in Fairfax Arlington VA recently completed her four year degree in communication and she did it summa cum laude. Rather heart breaking sitting here down south and I couldn't attend her graduation so I made her promise me she will continue now and do her masters and hopefully by that time I will reside in Fairfax as well so I can shed a tear on US soil.

looking at those frame piping I wish I could rebuild these scooters using aluminium piping and save on weight.

I think that bar is the max mark so you don't overfill.
