Hi all, I haven't been on this forum for many months now. You will recall that I was immigrating to the US and it has finally happen now. In fact I have been here since May of this year. Missing my Jonway which I sold back in South Africa. I like it here (not the winter) but I have some serious frustrations. One I struggle to find a job. I am applying in the academic, teaching, training fields and have really applied for almost 100 jobs with one telephone interview. I am looking in the Virginia North are as well as Hampton Roads and Virginia Beach area. I have to wonder if just maybe I am discriminated against because of my immigrant status. My other concern is that I am waiting for my green card to arrive. This card is just not arriving and without it I cannot apply for a drivers license or get medical insurance. Very frustrating as I would like to get my life back on track by buying a vehicle and looking for a scoot again. Anyway nice to be here, missing home and family.

Finally my immigration to the US is becoming a reality. If all goes well during my interview here at the Consular I will be leaving in May. Passed the medical already, bought the ticket, but sadly had to sell the scoot. The best is I'm doing it the legal way. Joining my two daughters in Virginia but very very sadly have to leave my first born here. Luckily she is married and may join me a few years from now. Not to sure if I will buy another scoot as I have a yearning for a BMW R1200RT. Please wish me luck I will need lots.

Ellpee technically you are right variator front clutch back but because the rear also varies I just call it the rear variator. The chattering you refer to, what is that? Did you purchase the scoot 2nd hand or new because the chattering should not be there actually it should be rather quiet. I had chattering on mine and had to replace the complete unit at the rear when the scoot was still fairly new. The Chinese did not apply too much grease and the bush ran dry and that is where I kept the centrifugal clutch as a spare and could use it now.

Hi everybody, prosperous 2014 to ya all. I want to tell you about something I observed. lately my scoot seems to be slightly heavier on gas than before. So during routine maintenance I removed the rear variator to see if there is oil in the gearbox and to apply a little grease to the sliding bush inside the variator. Good thing I did because I noticed that the centrifugal clutch has three contact patches (similar to drum brakes on a car). They wear down and 1mm (.039 inch) is the wear limit. The problem as they wear down is that the distance between them and the bell (like the outer drum) increases just as your handbrake lever seems to come up more and more until you adjust it. The result is that you unknowingly have to ref the engine more to pull off and that increases your gas consumption. I replaced my centrifugal clutch and the scoot feels much more responsive. I am pretty sure my gas consumption is going to improve.

Teaching here in SA and I always have to endure statements like "sir why don't you get a real motorbike" or 'how fast can your scooter go"or "sir can you pop a wheelie". Sometimes they ask if they can take the scoot for a spin then I reply saying no you are to young and this scoot to powerful it will throw you off the back. Happy thanks giving day to ya all. If all goes well I should get my immigration papers next year and could be there by April.

Thank you I get it. So this "tender" is different from a normal battery charger, one which might have an amp gauge on it and must be manually disconnected to prevent over charging.

A question from an out of country person. Why do you call a battery charger a tender?

I wonder how many people know that Independence Day was actually declared on 2 July 1776 by John Adams when he said that "these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent states" However Americans fastened not on 2 July but 4 July because it was on the 4th that Congress formally adopted July 4 as their independence day. (America: A Narrative History, Tindall, Shi 8th ed)
Happy Independence day to ya all.
