Refer to reply #10. Like I said - not a common replacement part.

A good windshield can sometimes add a couple of mph to the top speed. Here's what mine looks like: The streamlining effect does make a difference. JR's suggestions will help, but the wheel size and final drive gear ratio will be a limiting factor. My scoot is pushing 9000 rpm at 45 mph. 50 mph would be in the neighborhood of 10000 rpm. This is well into the red line area and will cause damage if held too long. I have no problems cruising my 50cc between 35 and 40 mph. This is better than average for a 50cc and in my case I might really have a 60cc engine (uses a 44mm instead of a 39mm piston) which was shipped from the factory in some of these models.

This looks like an evaporative emission purge control valve. It feeds gas fumes which are stored in the evaporative emission canister to the carburetor so they can be burned and not go into the atmosphere. There should be no liquid gasoline in this part. Not a very common replacement part.

Welcome, issue31. How long have you been scootin'? Pictures along with some history would really be interesting.

This type of tach is used by a lot guys that add motor kits to their bikes. I have an ENM tach on my bike and it works OK with very little lag.

I like the looks of this project. Great pictures too. Keep them coming. Looks like a prime candidate for the Special Projects Classroom.

Problems with low charging power generally occur on the 244cc Honda clone scoots. The Yamaha clone scoots have better charging systems and usually do not have a problem handling a little bit more of a load. It still is a good idea to change out all the other bulbs to LED's.

It sounds like the scoot overheated at one time. This could have caused the head to warp which would blow the head gasket and you would have the problems you described. Like Todd said, you might luck out with just a new head gasket and the head should be checked to make sure it is flat enough to work with a new gasket. A complete set of gaskets goes for about $25 HERE.

Sprocket has good advice. Here is another supplier of small tachs.

This motor most likely uses the capacitor as a starting function which means it may not start without the capacitor. The capacitor gives the motor greater starting torque. Connecting one side of the AC input to the white will give you low speed and connecting to the black should give you high speed.

Welcome to the forum, Jack. It looks like JR has pretty well covered all the bases with all the reference links he gave you. You certainly need some kind of airbox on the scoot and the powersports link looks like the right one. Also, there are no fusible links on these scoots. Here's a picture of the original fuse box: Once you get it running smoothly and the cooling system operational, you will want to check the performance of the charging system as they can be pretty weak unless you do some upgrades. Good Luck.

I made a bracket from 2 pieces of flat aluminum stock. I used some old sockets from a cheap Chinese socket set for the spacers.

Great to see things are going good for you and your family, JR. Sure was a lot of changes and activity to pack into one year. But, I'm sure, that's the way you like it. It was a great riding day over here (58 degrees), but not for me as my wife keeps me pretty busy.
My wishes for a great holiday and prosperous New Year to you and all our fellow scootists.
