Richard and Alley.. Thanks for your input on coolant.. I didn't think I had a problem but was after a 2nd opinion. It's made it 12000 miles this way so I am going to just leave well enough as is. Thanks a lot. Barnie

I have a 2007 JCL MP 250A with the linhai 257 engine.. Runs excellent.. The temp guage comes up to 1/2 way mark and fan cycles normally and temp guage will drop just a little when fan is on and then just repeat normally.. Never runs hot and never looses and antifreeze however when it is warm at normal temp, the antifreeze in the radiato cap area is never hot. Has always been this way. When warm and idling with cap off the antifreeze will rise to top of filler an when fan kicks on it goes down to near bottom of filler but never shows as tho it is circulating.. Have been riding it for 6 years this way.. Anyone out there have the same thing or should I be looking for a problem.. Air in cooling system?? Or since it never runs hot etc should I just leave well enough alone. I do 100% my own work so not afraid to mess with it if necessary.. Looking for suggestions from you experts out there.. Just got it out of winter storage today and every thing works perfectly. Thanks Barnie

wheezy,,chances are your fuel pump is getting weak and not putting out enough volumn at higher rpm. I have same scooter u have and 4 years ago I installed an electric pump and eliminated all problems. Still runs like a dream or did at least last fall when I put it away for winter but it is still in storage yet. If you stay with a vacumn pump just make sure you get a good one and not a cheap one. Make sure u don't have a vacumn leak to the pump also.. Barnie

I would double check the valves for your own piece of mind. I had to switch to an electric pump to eliminate my fuel delivery problems. Did that 5 yrs ago and have never had a problem since that day. As these engines wear the vacumn output goes away also, and the faster you run the engine the vacumn output drops. You may be starting to experience fuel pump problems. The next time it cuts off, open the screw on the carb bowl drain hose and see how much fuel you get b4 trying to restart, that will tell you if u are starving the engine at high speed. At any rate, I would re-check the valves. Barnie

Jetcock, put white out on each side of the slot as that makes the slot show a lot better as its in a place where getting a lot of light there is difficult. I have a ratcheting nutdriver with a 45 deg angle that I put extensions on for ease of adjusting, they make long flexible screwdrivers also. leave the right bottom skirt off as that will give u more room etc. I have the linhai 257 also and I have my screw set 2 1/2 turn out, that's where it runs best. try that for a starting point and if it runs good, I would leave it alone. Richard, are u talking about the bell or the large clutch nut. The bell takes a 17mm and for the large nut, after u slide clutch off shaft, just use a large cresent wrench, hold everything in your hands tight and hit wrench handle on floor. works great. count the number times u hit loosening and repeat when u put it back together. It is not necessary to remove the exhaust pipe from engine. Just loosen muffler clamp and slide muffler off exhaust pipe.. Barnie

On the radio side of this, I moved my speakers from under fairing to the dash and I bought a sony Walkman and plug it into the mp3 cable and turn the power button on radio on and then push the mp3 button and the use the Walkman from there on. Plays absolutely great. If you do away with your radio, just tape the hot wire up so it cant short out on frame. As far as the alarm goes, all you have to do is unplug it under fairing, that's it, nothing elso. scooter will love you. I threw mine away 6 years ago. Barnie

Steve, check "Scooter Professor" forum. At the beginning is has parts listings for your scooter and where to get them. It is also a great forum like this one. Barnie

Saber, not sure what size jets your Honda 244 uses but my linhai257 came out of factory with a 38 pilot jet and a 115 main. It is 6 years old now and still all stock. Your air/fuel screw is mainly for idle/low speed, pilot is for mid range and main is for high speed. From what you have said that all other areas of engine are ok I still suspect dirt in your pilot citcuit expecially in the small holes on engine side of throttle plate. The factory builds the engines where valve clearance, jet sizes, air volumn work in unisome for best performance. If you change 1 the balance will be off and performance suffers. Normal setting for air/fuel setting will be about 2 to 2 1/2 turns open. Yours is not working as I suspect your jet and uni filter have the balance way off in the carb. The more fuel and air you pour into an engine the longer the valves have to stay open to handle it and the more exhaust it creates mean you need to increase the exhaust system in size so the back pressure is not to great. Keep trying, hopefully you will find the gremlin. Feel free to ask anyone anything.

Sabre, with a jet that big you are giving it "plenty" of gas and same with the uni filter, plenty of air and most cases rejetting and removal of stock air box and filter will cause further upgrades to the exhaust system so the engine can get rid of the fuel/air. You did not say which engine u have, the 244 Honda or 257 linhai. I have found that when you start to deviate from factory settings etc that new problems arise. Try cleaning the carb, if it is the linhai 257 put a 115 main in and repair and re-install the factory air box with factory filter. Lets see what some other guys have for an opinion on your problems. Sabre, my first guess on this one would be you have a dirty carb. That is why your air/fuel mixtures screw doesn't work. If it were mine I would pull the carb and clean it good. Make sure the pilot jet is good and clean along with the small holes on engine side of throttle plate and the balance of carb and jets to. The pilot jet controls your mid range rpms/speed and the main jet covers your upper end of the rpm/speed range. Set your air/fuel screw at about 2 to 2 1/2 turns out after you put it back in. Also make sure you have no air restrictions in the air box etc. Barnie

W4wpa,,good looking trike. Double check your air intake system and make sure its not restricting any flow of air to engine. You may also have a tad bit of dirt in the main/hi speed jet. Try running some Seafoam thru it. Barnie
