Hi,
What can you say about the motor on my bike? I bought a BMS TBX EFI 260 (260CC 4 stroke, 14hp) scooter, and wanted to know something about the longetivity and performance of my motor, as well as if it is a clone and of what?
I've called the company I bought it from , and they said I had a GY6 motor. I've found lots online on the GY6-150cc, but nothing on the 260CC version.
It seems the GY6 is a clone of a Linhai, which is a clone of a Honda (if I'm right).
I read on some sites the displacement is actually 257cc 70 x 68mm or something. Any other info you can give about this engine? Is it a good one? Breaks down often or has problems?

First of all Welcome to the forum! Ok the BMS 260 scooter body wise is a copy of the old 250 Suzuki Burgman and the engine is indeed a clone and is the 257cc linhai engine. No such of a thing as a GY-6 250 scooter. yes I know you see parts and such and even part dealers called it a GY-6 250 engine but point blank it isn't so. BMS has never to my knowledge used any Honda or CFmoto cloned engine in their scooters. Now GY-6 refers to a common engine with displacement from 50cc, 125cc and 150cc and is always a horizontal engine like the linhai. The 244 Cfmoto or Honda Helix engine is vertical. Is it a good motor? Got two of them, over 15k between them and I wouldn't be afraid to get on mine and ride to Russia! But folks here know I'm partial to this engine. Like all of these scooters a good PDI and proper PM will give you a lot of fun miles. JR

I have a BMS 250 macho man and I believe the engine is a Helix clone, the cylinder is almost vertical maybe tilts slightly toward the rear wheel?

We are probably going to see a lot more fuel injection scooters too. I hope they got the bugs worked out before it went on the market, seems like it is a whole lot of trouble to retro fit efi on a carbed scooter. john

Thank you for welcoming me, and thanks for the explanation! I'm really not very mechanical oriented, but read online that the Linhai motors are quite good!
It seems to me compared to other motors that mine is rather low in HP rating, could I be correct?
I only fear to get a lemon! Last car I had I drove for 3k miles before sending it to the cemetery, because I was running on normal 87 fuel instead of 92, and did not know that the pinging sound was bad!
I want this motor to last me a long time! I know about break in period, but for the rest I have very little knowledge of motors, and hope I can find some support on this site for this motor!
I ordered the newest 2012 (or 2011) version, with configurable center shock system (which supposedly is an upgraded version from the 2008 version), larger disks for the front break, and EFI. I thought it good to pay $1000 extra compared to the same model without, because I'm quite skinny and want a relaxed ride, not a stiff ride, and was just hoping that the extra $1000 would buy me minor comfort, better road stability at 50+MPH, and prevent many headaches by having better quality material. Though in looks, the difference is very little between the 2011 BMS TBX 260 EFI and the standard 2008 model which is $1000 cheaper (and goes for $1600).
You think I did a good buy, or wasted $1000 of my money, and that the difference in better parts would not really be noticeable?

Lot's of rumors go around and I haven't looked at the specs on the EFI liinhai but it has always stacked up well against it's sister engine and has a stronger charging system. I would not venture on did you do the right thing with another $1k investment, it's your scooter. Only time will tell about the EFI and anytime you make a scooter more comfortable to ride it's money well spent IMO. The bottom line is if you're happy it's money well spent! JR

Happy? I can't wait for it to arrive and take it to the streets (after the break in period)

meaning, I can't wait till the PDI and break in is over.
I drove it today for the first time on a 40MPH road (after some 11 miles on 25/30MPH roads), it seems like the clutch does not release the motor quickly; I'm actually braking on the motor when releasing the throttle. Is that normal? On lower speeds (upto 25MPH), there's very little difference between neutral and braking on the motor. But on 40MPH it brakes almost as fast as using the front disk-brake!

[replyingto=prodigit]prodigit[/replyingto] Hi, I just bought the same scooter (2012 white EFI model) and I was wondering how you like your scooter now that you have had it for a year. I have had my for about 2 months. I love it so far, I was just wondering what to expect down the road. Two of my friends handled the PDI. One is a mechanic and the other is the owner of the carb version. So they enjoyed getting it up and running for me. Thanks,
