I've seen this thread on car forums and it's pretty fun. Basically, if you did anything to your scooter on a particular day, you post it! Extra kudos if you include pictures or 'how-to's' - but not required. On the subject of pictures, I'll post mine tomorrow But today I performed quite a pleasant upgrade on my mc54-250 scoot. Instlled some 4300k, 35w HID headlight bulbs, ran wires for my 12v accessory outlet, wired up a voltmeter and also wired up switches for the headlights so I can control the left from the right (pretty cool!) Now I just need to take it out tonight and go blind some people [edit] - Just tested them.. had my wife stand at the driveway and watch as I drove towards her from down the street. She said from a distance, people would think I'm a cop or something they're so bright. I hit the brights half-way to her and according to her they were downright blinding.. this was with only one turned on too As for my own visibility.. holy cow! These things rock!

Well update, I'm going to hold onto it for now. I just installed HID's today along with switches in the dash so I can control the left and right headlight (or turn them both off if I want.) Also wired up a voltmeter, ran leads for a future 12v accessory socket in the glove compartment and ordered some 19g slider weights (to upgrade my 20g rollers) If I sell it I sell it, but for now I'm not. Scooter values around here seem to be stupid high. I paid 3k for mine new.. and they've been selling for 1500-2200 used on craigslist. I saw a fly 150 fo for 2200, used, the other day. Don't ask me how but they are. You can't even hardly find a chinascoot on CL lately!

Are you sure the speaker connections are tight? Mine were loose from the factory and I lost sound.. there were connectors halfway between the speakers and the radio unit.

Sorry - been busy. It's still hard to tell what I"m looking at in the 2nd two pics (i.e.: where these wires are all ultimately going.)
Quick question on the dash control.. what does that look like. Is it a pad-type unit? Is there some rectangular control box behind it?
My fear is that this might be proprietary to that OEM radio. Even in cars, it takes a $100 adapter to keep steering-wheel controls with aftermarket radios. Finding a unit to keep controls on a china scoot, assuming this dash control is digital, is going to be pretty hopeless I'm afraid. You'll probably be best wiring it all up yourself from scratch.
See if you can take a pic of this dash control and we'll go from there.

what's your idle RPM? I previously had mine set LOW - which does sometimes made it feel like it's missing. If your warm-speed idle is below 1k, you might want to try bumping it up a bit.

Stock China nylon tires here. About 1700 miles and they look new... and still as hard as a rock (as with the ride) as they ever were lol.

Oooo I like that. Looks like for $20 more you can upgrade to the Stryker unit which includes a voltmeter. Nice!

Do you have a photobucket account? If so you can upload them there, then just post them right here in this forum so everyone can see (re-size first so they aren't SUPER huge)

Hey Damin - are you still running that relay? I am, but thinking about ditching it. When I get off the scooter for a quick run into a drug store (for example) on a hot day.. come back out.. turn the key, lights and fan come on due to the relay (lets say it was hot and the fan was running when I shut it off.) With all that running, my scooter has a hard time cranking.. just not enough cranking amps in that little battery to support it all. I have a toggle switch I wired-up for those occations.. I turn it 'off' (which kills all lights, fan, charing, etc) giving max amps to the starter, then turn it back on. Once the scooter is running I have no charging issues at that point.
Have you experienced the same thing, or can you easily start it with fan and both lights on? I'm still running the stock fan, so if you CAN start it, maybe that's the key difference.

Hey Thor,
Ok, so they must have been wired in series then to 8ohm at the stereo. Well either way, only only running 2 would do the trick. You can also do as blitz recommended and replace them.
Again since I'm not familiar with the stock system on your scoot, I don't know what these terminal blocks are doing. Can you snap a few pics of what you're looking at? I'm wondering if this terminal block is some form of a low-power amp. If so then we need to go about this a different way. If you can get some pics that would be great; we'll go from there.

Comparison is a bit different. China is already known for bad quality, they've proven that. It's due to varying standards - NO standard really. Other countries have safety standards, design standards, consumer protection agencies (agencies that brought us things like the lemon law, among others.) China has none of this - it's up to the design standards imposed upon them by the company purchasing their services. Because of that, China products can be VERY hit and miss. Until that changes, they're going to have a bad rep. You can look at a product, see it's "Made and Japan" or "Made in the USA" and that usually in itself is enough to tell you, "ok, it must be decent enough. It's PROBABLY a safe purchase." If it's made in China, you are almost required to do some research before purchase.
Until that sick and corrupt Chinese government changes, I don't see their 'made in China' reputation changing either. China isn't exactly known for imposing any quality (whether it's of product or of life) standards. It's of particular interest over the last 12 months to me as we've had a few people from China hired here at my company. The stories (which you'll NEVER hear on the news, Internet, etc) make me absolutely sick.

This is such a love hate relationship..
Detailed the scooter last night (lookin' sexy as ever) and rode it to woke this morning. Now I don't want to sell it LOL.
It's a catch 22 - Keep it and ride it hoping I've got a long time before something ELSE goes wrong. Or, sell it now while nothing is wrong with it lol.
