Ok, so I've been seeing all these Aprila, Vespa and Piaggio 250-500cc scooters on CL lately.. for less than I paid for my 250 China scoot.. and I've decided it's time to 'jump ship.'
I own a 2008 MC54-250 (Honda Reflex Clone) with the 244cc engine.
Runs perfectly, only mechanical issue is the gas gauge no longer works, and 1 headlight bulb is burnt out (no big deal right?).
It has some scuffing on the left side.
Has a few upgrades - LED lights all around and upgraded R/R from OMP (I know upgrades don't increase resale.)
Do you think I can get at least $1,000 out of it? I paid $3200 after tax, dealer fees, registration etc. I know these have NO resale value but hoping to get SOMETHING out of it.

$1800 after CA reg, + $240 shipping + $100 tax = $2140.
That's a steal.. why couldn't I find this place in 2008 LOL
I don't think the general public knows about these prices though. CL isn't full of a bunch of scooter pro's

That is a great price for a new scooter. I paid $1995 for my 2008. After looking at the photo's and reading the description I don't see anything new about this scooter. Same brags about Japanese or Taiwan parts for added quality. I was wondering if it had injection fuel, but no.
But for welling your older scoot it is important to remember just how buyers operate these days. It does not matter if a garage sale, car, house, there are multiple parts to the deal. Set an asking price and be ready for an offer. Now what you will accept and bargain your way down.
I remember in garage sales my wife would have and she was offering some real good values at giveaway prices. Ask 25 cents and the buyers would almost always want to offer only a nickle or dime. They will do that for the scooter too. Ask, get offer, attempt to negotiate to agreement, it is sold.

This is such a love hate relationship..
Detailed the scooter last night (lookin' sexy as ever) and rode it to woke this morning. Now I don't want to sell it LOL.
It's a catch 22 - Keep it and ride it hoping I've got a long time before something ELSE goes wrong. Or, sell it now while nothing is wrong with it lol.

I know what you mean yoster, I've work on my scoot alot and been replacing many items. I know if I sell it, I'll never get what I've put into it, plus the hours of labor, I guess I can say its a labor of love, I'm like you love to get something new, but I don't know if I'd sell my scoot

Hey Yoster. IMO I think $1,000 is a very fair price, Then again it all depends on your areas supply and demand. Hell, a local dealer here in Vegas still has 2009 50cc peace models priced at 1200 sticker, Not out the door price. I maybe biased in knowing it's a scoot taken care of very well but, I see no harm in posting a CR add just to see what type of response you get. Like I said a while back, get what you want!!! There is no reason why ya can't buy a new ride of your choice and keep or maybe sell your currant ride. The hard choice is yours to make.

Well update, I'm going to hold onto it for now. I just installed HID's today along with switches in the dash so I can control the left and right headlight (or turn them both off if I want.) Also wired up a voltmeter, ran leads for a future 12v accessory socket in the glove compartment and ordered some 19g slider weights (to upgrade my 20g rollers) If I sell it I sell it, but for now I'm not. Scooter values around here seem to be stupid high. I paid 3k for mine new.. and they've been selling for 1500-2200 used on craigslist. I saw a fly 150 fo for 2200, used, the other day. Don't ask me how but they are. You can't even hardly find a chinascoot on CL lately!
