Allrighty, here's a new problem for the Scooter Maniacs at large: Where in Hades name can I find a rear brake disk for a 2008 Mainstreet 300?? Even my local motorcycle repair shop is scratching their heads on this one. Here's the deal: My wife had so much fun on my Tourista 260, we've kept an eye out for a scooter for her. What popped up locally was a Mainstreet 300. After plopping cash for it and riding it home, we found some hidden issues with it. Mainly, a leaky right front fork seal, and a record-groove screechy rear brake disk. Local bike shop is getting the seal ordered so that can be fixed, but nowhere to be found is a rear disk! They are thin enough that they really shouldn't be turned, but that might have to be the solution. Don't want to, but what can one do? Disk PADS everyone and their dog has, but no disks. I have a mainstreet 300 parts bike. If you want I will check out the condition of the brake disk and let you have it cheap. PM me if you are interested.

Windshield, and various screws behind it. Then will it pop off or are there any more fasteners I need to be aware of?

I've had mine off more times than I can count, usually you have to take windshield off first, then all the screws holding fairing front too. it is a pain. Yep it looks like a pain in the arse but it must be done. I believe I will have to remove the glove box as well I think there are some screws behind it. Gonna go back with stock lights. They are plenty bright enough. Man I hate to tear into that fairing. I think I would rather have a tooth pulled lol.

I will check the switch on Thursday. That front fairing looks like it will be a pain in the arse to get off. It has to be done though. People are flashing there lights at me with just the bright light working. I had no idea it was that bright. They are stock lights.

With the info gleaned from this site and the help of alleyoop I have repaired the starter clutch on my Aleous 300. It wasn't easy but I learned a lot in doing it. I took the opportunity while the bike was tore down to do some general maintenance on the scoot. Valves, Lines, Coolant, Oil were all done. Took it for a little ride this evening and it ran beautifully. I am a happy camper. I'm off this weekend and a cruisin I will go. This scooter is a blast to ride and I cant wait till Friday. This site is awesome.

The idler gear appears to be good. The starter clutch behind the flywheel I'm not sure about. I am going to pull it. There are 3 bolts that look like Allen head or star head going thru the flywheel. If I remove these bolts will the flywheel come off or am I going to need a puller?. I installed a starter when I opened up the crankcase and jumped it off with a battery just to see what was going on. The starter turned the idler gear which in turn spun the gear behind the flywheel all the while making the same singing, whining sound. I pulled the idler gear and they were not spinning freely on the shaft. So it is good, The motor did not turn over during this process and the flywheel did not turn. I am going to pull the starter clutch as soon as I find out if I need a puller. Thanks.

Thanks alleyoop. I will try your suggestion. Perhaps you or another forum member could provide a link if you know of one where I can get the necessary gears if need be. Don't want to pull them out of the other motor if I don't have to. Also is the stator reversed threaded?. Meaning is the nut removed clockwise as compare to counterclockwise. I think I read some where that either the stator or clutch nut is that way, I just cant remember which.

Man this looks like a major job. Taking the cover off is no problem. Removing gears is a whole different ball game. will they be a pain to remove or should I just forget about this motor all together. I have another motor that I can put in there off my parts bike. It has 10,000 miles on it. It turned over normally as I stated in my post. Don't know if I should go through the effort to remove the gears if it will be easier to put the other motor in it.

Been working 60+ hours a week for the last 2 months or so. Haven't had a lot of time to ride my scoot. I have started it a couple of times a week with no issues. I went yesterday to ride it after finally getting a couple of days off. When I pressed the start button the starter made a loud singing, whining noise and did not engage the engine. I checked all connections and fuses with no difference made. I have another identical bike that I use for parts and decided to pull the starter off it. When I tried to crank the motor with the different starter in it the same results happened. I thought that was odd. So I put the original starter in the parts bike and wired it directly to the battery. It turned the motor over normally. The other starter was the same. I then reinstalled the starter back into my main scoot and wired directly to the battery. The same singing, whining sound occurred with no engine engagement made. This tells me that the problem is internal. Does anyone have any idea what the heck it could be. The motor itself has been running good with no problems for a long time. Please help. Thanks.

I didn't realize they made high heat paint in different colors other than black. This presents very definite possibilities for me as I am gonna paint my scoot in the fall. Yep definite possibilities indeed.
