Never really thought about it since my TGB scoots are air cooled and oil cooled. This is an interesting area.

We have gotten more than our share of rain this summer and it has been one of the, or possibly, the hottest on record for GA.Just filled up my Honda CRV plus another 10 gallons in containers for the scoots and it ran me $80.30 for 20 gallons. Regular is going for $3.95 a gallon, up from $3.65 two weeks ago. As Bobf says, global warming is real----and a normal non man induced event. Geological evidence shows that the earth regularly goes thru warming and cooling periods and always has. In fact we just came out of a mini ice age in the last century. And I agree with him that we waste way too much time jousting with wind mills.

Speaking of Honda I have a friend who went to buy a simple part for his Big Ruckus only to find that the dealer wanted 3 times what it should cost. The parts clerk said it was because the BR was a discontinued unit. He then quietly suggested that my friend by the same part now offered under different parts number for about a third of the price. It was exactly the same as the old part. So, it pays to dig deeper when buying parts for older scoots.

May he heal quickly. The lesson here is do not mess with us old guys!!! The first thing that goes into my pocket each morning is my Kel-Tec 9. I have a legal carry license from my years on the road doing a booth at dog shows. That would have stopped the situation immediately. And if Travler1 could have made it to the van there might have been 3 less bad guys. I have been taught that if you are selling a scoot/motorcycle/car on Craigslist take only phone calls and set up meetings in public places. Even then have someone go with you. Heal quickly and ride on, brother, ride on.

Check scooterrans message above. Most ethanol free gas is found at marinas. Motorboat engines are affected just as scooter engines are. I am planning to check this out as I have 3 marinas in my area that offer ethanol free gas.

Well, Mountain Moped, somewhat assisted by me, cleaned the carb and re-jetted it, on the IB Ruckus trike. I got to see what ethanol does to a scoot carb up close. The jets were totally clogged and there was a white jelly like substance in the bottom of the carb bowl. The ethanol had started to corode the aluminum bowl as well. The UPS driver arrived and told us that he was having the same trouble with the engine for his boat, entire gas tank had a layer of white 'jelly' on the bottom. I have located three marinas nearby who sell pure gas, no additives and may start buying the scoot gas from them. Also piked up Sta-Bil ethanol treatment to try. The moral of this story is: Dont let your scoots drink ethanol!!!

Gas price for regular was $3.70 a gallon on the 11th. In early July it was $3.16. I am riding more now than I am driving. Sta-Bil ethsanol treatment seems to be working keeping the carbs from shellacing but riding and if nothing else cranking the engines for a short period of idling helps too. At the rate it is going up regular may be pushing $4.00 in the next couple of weeks.

Sea Foam is good too. Did some research and Sta-Bil is offered in 4 different recipes. One is an ethanol mixture addressing the shellac problem for scoots, small engines, ect. I may get some after I run out of regular Sta-Bil. Running the scoots at least once a week is necesssary also.

Thanks, scooterran. We have 2 stations in our area and one in Bryson City, NC that offer real gas. Mountain Moped is bringing gas back from BC and I am going to try to locate the ones here.

1 vs 2 cyl?

Honda has just released a 2 cyl. scooter and 700cc bike. The bike is being released in this country this month and has been well recieved in Europe already. The bike is reasonably priced, I think the model is CR700x but dont hold me to that. The scooter is not scheduled for release in this country. And doesnt Honda use a 2 cyl engine in the Silverwing scooter? I like the 1 cyl. cause I am cheap and look for good MPG and am satisfied with 55-60 mph!!!

1 vs 2 cyl?

Have never owned a 2 cylinder scoot but have owned a Tank 250 at one time. It was 10 mph faster than the 150 but did not get as good a gas milage. My present TGB Del. 150 gets 68 mpg and my TGB R9i with sidecar gets 48 mpg and top speed is 54 but average speed is 45-50. Before the sidecar was added it got in the 60s mpg . The 150 tops out at 60-63 but runs best at 55-60. Hope this helps.

Larbell, fresh milk and butter!!! Those were the days. We bought ours from a neighbor. My mom would make fresh biscuits and that butter plus a litle grape jam was delicious.

Good advise from all of you. I agree with Oop. Part of my problem was letting the scoots sit for longer periods of time befor running them. No longer letting that happen. Thanks to sugerscoot also for the tip on Star Brite. I am using Sta-Bal but will see if I can find Star Brite.
