yes....justbuggin....many will say this......and there are a lot of mis-conceptions....about these cars...thats why i focus on particular years and models (xjs and xjr...roughly 1998-2003...i have three cats and never had an electrical problem.....
when ford took them over...cars improved dramatically...differents trans/power plant and got rid of lucas electricals...to which i think you are referring....
they are not much different than our more recent maxi-scooters...with ecu(s)....that can fail and are difficult to fault fine on......nor are internals always of the highest quality and may need change out..... i.e.......cam chain tensioners...part plastic...just like my jags.....bottom line owning even a efi-maxi---with ecu and all....can be just as expensive to repair as a jag...

happy new year to all...been off the scooter boards a while as i was weighted down with my other obsession 98-2003 jaguars xj8....just purchased an 02...long wheel base....pretty near mint...
the 2012 year did not end very well though...i lost a very close friend on dec/23.....had recently turned 60......and i am still in a state of shock.....as i was on the phone with him just 3 days prior...lived about an hour away...so did not see him often...but we chated at least 2-3 times a week....as you get older you begin to realize...its all about loss....and there is not very much you do about it......robo...

sorry to hear of the demise of cf moto...at least here in the usa....however, i have been around long enough to know....never say never......manufacturers re -surface under new brands/backers.....clones clone the clones ........and the dna lives on.....
perhaps the stories we heae on nightly business reports re how unfair the Chinese are re competition/trade and manipulation of the currency are true.....
recall hyosung.( though south korean)....who had a nice techno-advanced fleet of scooters......for the price point.....last i heard they are also withdrawing from the usa scooter scene...poor/thin dealer network with little support....

.....just changed oil went from dino to mobile synthetic....did one previously with no problem.....rode for a couple of days locally and no problem.....today....took a longer ride and on the way home "oil service" light went on.....this is different than the oil can/graphic light that turns on and than off once the scooter starts.... checked oil level when i got home....looked to me to be a tad low....so i added about 5 ounces...started up turned off.....turned key on again and oil service light still on.....the scooter takes 1'5 liter of oil....pressure is fine as is power...scooter running great... but i can't get the oil service light to shut off and i am reluctant to put more oil in as i don't want to over fill anybody here have any idea whats going on the scooter just hit the 5000 km service mark which calls for an oil change did my self with new oil filter.....scooter is less than a year old....i will be calling the dealer tomorrow to see if i can get any suggestions like i said this is my second oil change i did the first one myself....with no complications ......there has been no oil loss, the oil is at the top of the hatched part of the dip stick/cap.......what in the world is going on?

of course there is no real answer to this issue........despite all the great input above......i own 2 efis and don't consider myself rich
in the old days when i ran mcs.....i had to play around with carbs..and throttlelinkage, the electrics were fairly simple...when i switched to maxi-scoots i only bought efi......one works great all the time...the other very temperamental.....when its down it is down...and very costly to repair.....i would not rx converting......ride what you are familiar with...if carbed...stick with it.....
of course if you buy one of the big three/japaneese....you will be doing for the most part efi.....perhaps not in my lifetime...i would not be surprised to see chinos....being more and more efi....if they can get the cost down and as the tech gets cheaper......

alley.....glad we made contact......i am now here and at other forums.....the 250...you are very knowledgeable on......i will be tackling that tdc problem eventually.....the kymco is actually rated as a 298.something....
as i learned we could do bore and stroke calculation/formula to arrive at displacement and cc....but hey....with proper shop manual......its usually right there.....no need to take actual measurements......
not sure on the hyosung....i lost the shop manual on it when my windows crashed in december......but its either a 244 or a 256 i believe.....and puts out 25hp at 7000rpm......

(i have only more recently owned efis/scooters)....great when they are running not so much so when they break and repairs are expensive.... so i would not rx...for everyone .....certainly not the faint of heart....i use to ride bikes exclusively....until my hearing was getting adversely impacted....i brought an efi into my local mc mechanic i was amazed at what he did not know about how to repair it....they seem to know the mechanics and a bit of electrical......ok for bikes but not maxi-scooters with 30 pin.....ecu...connector...with sensors controlling just about everything...
just my opinion.....the best scooter techs....know the wiring and electronics much better...and not as great...on the mechanical end of things.....of course we can never over-generalize.....just how i see it..
