Thanks guys. Been so busy, took a part time job to break up the Honey Do list that turned full time once they found out what old retired guys are capable of! Thinking now while I am in there I will go to the larger variator Scrappy sells with a yellow contra spring and order 14 to play with.

LOL this is great, always go bigger for more speed seems the normal reply. I went from Harley Road King to to 150 because of size, just see the scoots larger as boats. 150 handles well, has enough power to not get run over, still gets 70 to 80 MPG but and has better shocks, lights and brakes than the 50. ROFL, most important it is small enough to go up and down the three steps to the street with its 14"tires.

I have a bud on a foreign site that removed it all even to the point of a non EGR valve cover. He thinks the bike runs betterand his location does not do emission tests on scoots. I dont think EGR does any good for the bike just makes Ca. sales easier.

You all are gonna love this one! Met up with an older guy 77 years old, riding a 2002 Metro 50CC. Has 13k on the clock and it looks like new! He swears by the liquid cooling and loves the quiet, you can barely hear the thing run! No doubt it has been maintained properly because he owns a small Honda shop, and still works every day! LOL I rode by his shop a few days later between 7 and 8 P.M. and he was blowing the parking lot to keep it smooth and accident free. Even though he rides a scoot the shop is filled with big bikes and he thinks riders these days just dont get it, he likes scoots better citing over 100 mpg, and quiet as the reason.

Thinking here heat is the biggest problem we have to shorten engine life. Another guy, another site, got 30,000 out of his stock engine before heat claimed it. I agree run the 7, better mileage and who needs hard starts in cool weather.

Now the big question's, from some video's it is just pop off the rear clutch assembly pull the small cover and go to work. On one video a guy had split the case and really did a lot. Two different engine types featured. I am under the impression that the GY6 is constructed so the pop the clutch remove the cover and do it, no case split needed.

That's what gears do....to gain top speed you will sacrifice the low end. They do make all kinds of ratio's and you would not have to go to a radical ratio. Better yet have you tried changing the weights in the variator yet. Also the variator, putting on a larger dia. one, and also a bit longer belt. The higher the belt goes in the variator the faster you go at lower rpm. You can mark the inside of the variator with a magic marker then go for a ride and see how much of the marker is rubbed off. If it doesn't go all the way to the top you are loosing out on speed. john Appreciate the input, The question is has anyone done it? Yep I know the bottom end will be less but lighter rollers combined with a stiffer contra and a 4.5 variator will give a lot of that back. What Im looking for is an increase at top and a drop in RPM at average road condition speeds.

In Discussion with another member on another site i brought up the idea of changing the gears to get more top end and lower engine RPM. It has been suggested that the bike couldn't handle it without complete loss of bottom end, which on my scoot is super strong. I just cant believe that the gears are offered out there only for scoots that have had engine upgrades. Any one out there done gears to a stock bike?

My 49CC Wildfire totally benefited from changing the variator, (Scrappy). Factory and replacement rollers 6 G. This put cruise or WOT, at 7200RPM, up from 6900, hill climbing ability was 3 to 5 MPH better and fuel economy went up a few MPG because less throttle. If I were to play with it further I would order 5G. and try three 5G and 3 6G, and straight 5 G.

I think a small spare can, that seals great is the ticket. I carry a one gallon in my trunk. On the day my carb drain screw started leaking it was a godsend! I was in the boonies and smelled it when I stopped for a drink at a redneck little store, not not gas station. . I bought a novelity screwdriver at the store, mine was too big to get it where it needed to be, to re-tighten the screw, and the 1/2 gallon of gas I had in that can saved a looooooong walk.

With all of the sites out on the net Scoot Prof is a credit because so many sites don't have the depth all of us can offer to newbie Scooter owners. Greg posted on another site but Ill say it again, fantastic web site glad its working out for you! Thats enough for now I have things to do like reply to concerns, get my Dakota out of the mud again, feed the dogs LOL just life as we old guys know it!
