Any suggestions??? I saw the video about derestricting the variator... I also read that you can derestrict your exhaust on some scooters as well.

Welcome. Wanting to go faster is always a good question. Now I encourage you to investigate the various answers very carefully. I don't know what you are riding. That would hel
A couple of things I will share with you very quickly.
first ny golf cart has a 295cc 4t robbin engine. It is rated at 9hp.(33cc/1 hp) My 150cc scoot is also rated at 9 hp.(17cc/1 hp Both are air cooled. Nearly twice the hp per cc. that tells me my little 150 scoot is not vastly underengineered. Recall the earlyVw were 1200 cc rated at 32 hp. (37cc/ hp) It also was air cooled and had an even lower compression ratio. My old (00) Subaru turns 155 hp out of 2,500cc (15cc/hp). It is fairly high compression and computor managed ignition and EFT and WATER COOLED. So first point is that the gy6 engine is Honda engineered and cloned. It already is stressed about as far as good materieals and manufactoring will allow is you wnat it to last a few thousand miles.
Scondly, be a little suspicious. Some of our sponsors sell "performance" stuff. They are nice people so I for one do not ask the hard questions. In fact, if you insist upon trying to make it go faster I would encourage you to pick one and turn the project over to him. Unless you are really a top notch wrencher, pull your engine and ship it to him and have him do it. Regarding speed. Do not believe a single report that is not documented. Put it simple, every drag strip in the nation has the tools it tell you very accurately the speed of a vehicle. It really is not rocket science. I see speed claims on this forum over and over. GPS verified etc. I believe the guys believe them but I don't. I have seen far to many show up at the track telling how happy they are with there cars and the modifications they have in place. But when they get on the track, it just is not riunning right today. Now I do not know what you are riding and where. I know my 150 runs pretty good. It scares me sometimes. But I will not even try to run it on Avalon Blvd. That is now a vey busy 2 lane with lots of 45 MPH speed limit. MY scoot is by far the slowest machine on it. Nobody drives near the limit.
I don't know what you are riding or what you think is you need for speed. But I will tell you, whatever it's present top speed is that is about it's safe speed limit. It is also pretty close to the best you can get out of the engine short of spending most of a grand for parts and more for labor.
Consider getting it sold and buy a scoot capable of more speed. Consider a 250 with water cooling and add a EFI kit.
lots of luck lefty2

Can an EFI kit be added to a 150cc air-cooled GY6? I'd like to boost my top end a bit as well; right now she can do ~55mph or just slightly less. I'd like to get it to around 70mph so I can ride on the highways comfortably (getting across the bay without taking the Howard Frankland or Gandy bridge is a circuitous route at best, and would add an hour or more riding time if/when I want to get to Clearwater Beach.)

there is NO replacement for displacement !!!!
HOTSTUFF ur 150 will never cruise at 70 mph w/o destroying it go ahead pump tons of money in it
you may hit 65 now and then but if try to cruise at 70 well its not made to go that fast.
LAZERORCA how many cc's ? im guesssing 50 am i right??
you dont say anything about it at all, but you want suggestions?
BOTH OF YOU--are u talking about you daily rider--or something you want to run on a strip and rebuild it every time u run it?

Better to aim high and miss than to aim low and hit. I'm considering the 200cc big-bore kit down the road...

i always HIT what i aim at
200cc kit, wow does ur scoot even have a 100 miles on it yet?? why didnt u just buy a 250cc
if u put a 200cc kit in it , u are going to have to replace the stock crank, it wont handle the torque of 200cc's, very well
but ok

there is always the option of buying a 200cc motor costs less than a 250 scooter and not all the work of the big bore kit and easy to install and should give the smaller and lighter scooter all the speed you need depending how fast you really want to go, the reports comming in on the newer 200cc motors are vary good so far scrappydog sells a nice one for just under 500. with the help of the guys here and obout 100 .oo in mods i took my lance from 45 to 57 with out really getting into to the motor it self and im happy with that. no major changes scoot still runs good with out any excesive wear and low cost and 57 mph what more could you want from a stock 150 it will do 60 now if i really need it to so im happy as a lark travler1

Question, are you thinking about a 200 CC kit because you wanna go long distances or you just want the speed?
If you answer yes to question #1 I will advise against it, 50 CC scooters design are not really meant for long distance travel, you can see that the design is different for what they call touring scooters, Example is the suzuki burgman, Kymco Xciting 500RI ABS, with the piaggio BV 500 and The Vespa 300GTS being the exception.
If you answered yes to question #2 then I strongly recommend you change the Variator, roller wights, clutch, spring clutch exhaust and Re-jet the carburetor or get a new one. The 200 CC kit won't get you the speed you looking for.
Also remember the more mods you do the less MPG you gonna get, i know people who fill their tank twice a day in a 50 CC.
My 2 Cents, hope it helps.
