New variator on and running again. Word of warning, at least for me. A new nut or a dab of Locktite next time. Was great until I put the cover back on for a test ride. Rattle, rattle, WTF? Pulled the cover AGAIN! Loose nut, so put the tool on again and a dab of Locktite and bumped it with the air wrench and checked with torque wrench. Note to self DO NOT get in a rush to go for a ride.

Jinxed myself. Today sounded like it was coming apart (it was). After chasing the noise I pulled the cover and the variator was slopping around on the boss. Big wobble.

Just coming back to the office from lunch and shut it down. Low and behold- 23030 chinos on the odo on my 2006 GY6 running on the original rubber even. Just trying to think what I have had to put into it-
Belts X4 Front pads X3 Rear bearing Headlight bulbs V/R Stator Resistor Vacuum breaker (switched out to Mikuni from a small engine shop)
Dr Pulley in the variator Hyper exhaust Carb up-jet
Thinking that changing the oil at regular intervals and valve adjusts has helped get me this far.

Of course everybody knows this, but there is a difference in solders. Acid core and resin core. Just make sure you use the correct one for it's intended purpose. Also you don't need a big heavy solder for small wires. There are a ton of new cool wire splices and connectors out there now.

Very envious brother, but considering your commute I am happy for you. I will have to admit though that my GY6 with 22352 on the odo has paid for itself many, many times over.

Thanks Cruiser! Just went to the store and grabbed a high tone horn and installed it. Thicker than the OEM horn so tucked it in behind the RH headlight. Didn't tell my wife I was going to test it in the garage. She almost tore the door off the dishwasher!

Looked and searched, but couldn't find anything on a replacement horn so I can get rid of the meep, meep, one? Any small 12V horn work?

Seller is down to $600 so I can't pass it up. They are saying headlight really dims as you decrease engine speed? Hope the pic shows up PhotoB is doing something funny at the moment.

School me. 21,172 chinos on a 2006 GY6. Have fought an issue of dying on me at worst possible times. Most times happened going from idle to throttle. Have- Replaced all fuel lines, vacuum lines, new carb, vacuum break. Valves set and re-set and checked again.
Last night decided I WAS going to figure out the issue. Fired it up and was flipping throttle lever back and forth on the carb. Noticed the throttle cable (the cable itself) riding up the throttle lever, let it idle back down, burped it again and cable came totally off. I adjusted the cable at the throttle handle first, then at the carb. Right? Wrong? Or replace cable? Thinking is that if that much stretch, new throttle cable? The last thing I want to have happen is have a *cage* run up my tail pipe on a four lane street.

Thanks JR. I have already taken the battery out and put it on my small battery charger and will leave it. When I checked the battery it showed 13.3 before I jumbered the solenoid with a MAJOR drain. And yes, across the two posts. Will see what happens in the morning. Leading me to believe either the batt, solenoid or starter at this point. Bro still has his starter off his old engine so may be a place to start.

Re-set valve lash yesterday, rode it around and seemed to be holding idle RPM without dying. Rode to work this morn, back home at lunch and 1/2 way back to work, died at a stop light. Would not re-start with starter switch, just click, click at the starter. Not too concerned at that point as I figured I would kick start it (note to self make sure kick starter bolt is tight). Thinking but just thinking that starter has been crapping and putting two much load on the battery? At any rate I was able to disconnect/re-connect every plug in the starter circuit, down to battery and loosened and re-connected at that point, also checked grounds. Battery had a full charge this morning when I left. What now?
