yeah it does seem like they throw darts to set up the accuracy on the tachs and speedos...and after a lotta judicious manipulation got the valves adjusted, out of the box the exhaust was on the tight side and this being a' fresh from the garden' scoot she is breaking in little by little on the quicker side and the tach is slowly crawlin' up the scale...and I do think those rollers tend to be 'out of the box' tight also and when you put em on the stand and rev it up that causes the back wheel to shimmy more so that an out of balance situation..all in all I should keep my trap shut til it has about 500 miles on it and go from there..... yeah Alley those MGs do have a way of drawing other owners to each other...a lot of it was necessity...back in the day tooling around with that rascal we were always helping each other out...out of necessity...I always kept good tires on it cuz my trunk was full of tools and spare parts no room for the extra tire..out of necessity...yeah I had one of those balancers too and boy did they come in handy...there was this glass spark plug thing that I bought that you could tune those carbs and look at the engine firing and tune her to blue...got it from England...I could go on and on about those things have a lot of fond memories....and those SUs remind me of the set up we have now sorta...the more things change the more they stay the same as the saying goes...hope you were friends with that neighbor...
and Siverfox you just may have a point ole buddy... makes sense to me and you are correctee mundo on breaking it in and it does seem to be getting better and better with the breaking in at various speeds and only wide open for short bursts and immediate deceleration then various speeds and cool downs yap better and better...but ya gotta like that Lucas stuff about a 20% mix and a shot in the rear gear too... Sam~

Is it me or is it those kick stands seem to be just a tad short and almost vertical? On any sort of grade or slope and if the wind gusts a little.. down she goes.... read somewhere where a fella parked his next to a car and before he could get in the house bango over she went on the car. And what with those potato chip windshields and mirrors.
anybody out there come up with a fix on this particular situtation without having to put her on the center stand all the time? Haven't really delved into this engineering oversight and was thinking about putting a BMS stand on it just because I happen to have a burnt out one on hand. Sam~

What it was was I was ordering another bike they were out of stock on the 'retro' look deals so I went with the more 'modern' for lack of a better term and heck it looked easier to get to the motor (which it is)...
Hey Cruiser I like those side boxes are those stock or did you add them on and if so how can a fella find those jewels (jules)

The sump was changed upon arrival (dumped the old and put in new 10w40) along with a shot of Lucas oil treatment and it was checked, run up, warmed up, rechecked and all was good. I also did the valve clearences(the exhaust was tight) ran it around the block a few times rechecked the oil (good) and ran a few errands and when I came back re-checked the oil and that's when I noticed it was about half full and got to looking around and noticed that the oil had backed up into the overflow looking tube (clear tube) when I did do the valve adjustment I noticed that it really pushed a lot of air out of the valve cover vent tube...I even started it with the valve cover off and it literally threw oil out which let me know the oil pump is in tip top shape....it seems like this 'blow-by' is a bit much and there are no cracks in the air box or pinched lines anywhere went over each line one by one and all good and properly connected...like I said in the original post my older scoot never did this sort of thing and it had a lot longer clear tube as the air box is situated rearward over the drive belt with that wedge looking air filter set up whereas this one is under the seat and I think I'll do what alleyoop did and re-route that vent tube deal towards the rear and let gravity do its thing and put a UNI sock on the intake...these things are fun to tinker with anyway...and I am an old tinkerer from way back anyway...back in the '60s til the '80s had MGs and god knows ya gotta be able to tinker to have one of those rascals...but this blow-by thing is a poser

I recently got this bike and have had a few posts and it is breaking in as well as can be expected but today after running an errand I checked the oil for the heck of it and to my surprize it barely registered, now this after putting about 30 miles on it and a week old oil change and after looking around and finding no leaks I pulled the underseat storage out and started looking around and sure enough there was that oil in the clear tube that hangs from the air filter box which on this model is under the seat...when I first got this scoot and went over it I noticed that it had about a half inch of oil and didn't think anything of it and drained it out...now it seems to be blowing it into the air filter area for some reason...everything else looks good and it has even gained a few rpms(like you said JR it is breaking in and stretching things out) so why all the oil blowby?
My other scoot even after several thousand miles only accumulated about an inch of oil in that same type tube so I am stumped as to why this newbie is doing this...anybody got any ideas on what causes this?

I have had two scoots stolen and one has been taken three times it has always been my fault not setting the alarm or chaining it , acutally I use a stranded cable, as they smush instead of pop thru...but like the guy said if they want something bad enough.all three times the front fork was locked but that didn'tstop 'em..the freezing thing is those people that do it for a living....I have seen that thing that is an alarm that fits thru your disc rotor there are several makes out there and they look tamper proof and make a helluva racket....you have people that all they do is cruise around with their a-hole buddies looking to take things that offer little resistance and most are crack heads...I have gotten mine back two times (small town) and this third go around have had a neighbor spot it so in my baliwick they are dumb enough to ride it around thinking no one will notice...oh yeah they like to take the trunks off and the rear view mirrors and front turn signals thinking it will not be noticable but the scoot stands out because they are the only ones like it in town...the old retro look in a stand out blue with black trim and a big ole silver streak on the sidess....
People who steal Harleys are serious thieves and scooter thieves are of the garden variety and every where.....and tend to have tans

That makes all the sense in the world and have had that problem myself...it seems these enricher things would have been better off with plain ole chokes with butterflies and manual at that...had an old pro on another site show me that there are manual enrichers out there but they cost as much as a new carb and that is without the control switch...had two Znen's that hated temps under 60 must be how close they were built to the equator...

Thanks JR there's always that fine line between performance and durability and this being my third go around with 150cc scooters it does seem like 50mph is about the max one can expect my first one got there in a hurry the second not so quick those first two were Znen retro types and where bulky and heavy with long wheel bases and did feel comfortable and the third is a shorter wheel base and is quick and for some reason doesn't feel as stable as the other two but is a heck of a lot easier to get to the engine and air filters etc etc and it has that jiggley feel down the road and because of the shorter wheel base my feet feel not so much in a natural posistion as the longer ones did and it's gas tank was in the floor board whereas these scoots have em under the seat and I had to take an old gas cap off the Znen and put it on the Jonway cuz the new one just spun around and wouldn't seal...I could go on about the differences and probably should in another thread about how one compares to the other....
and by the way I like this forum and you are doing a heck of a job and that's what makes it fun to check in from time to time...It seems like the''search'' engine on most forums have a problem finding out what it is you are trying to find and the only forum I have seen that searches every and I mean every word you enter is the scooterforumonline thing...it is a pain to find a subject and only be told ''could not find'' when you know darn well it's in there somewhere.....that was one reason I left the one you did too it seemed like no matter how I worded it the question was never right and the thing is I had seen a post about the same subject...and this mind you after toggling off every non discriptive box and going back 90 days and what have you...to me that what this whole thing is about is finding out what others have gone through and the fixes and what ever they had to go through...the'' warnings and 'don't do's''...you know what I mean...here it seems more personalized like a smaller classroom so to speak...keep up the good work my friend... Sam~

my scoot seems to top out at 7000 rpm and the redline is 8000. I was of a mind that it should atleast touch the redline every now and then; it will after a few minutes show 50mph indicated and was thinking that after seeing articles on removing the washer/bushing looking deal on the variator that it will allow higher rpm without having to go thru a lot of buying aftermarket cdi's and what have you... so the question is....drum roll....cymbal crash...is this true and if so why and if not...why not and what would be the best way to squeeze more rpm and not go hog wild and trash the engine....which I hear anything over 9500 will do...
