About 2 weeks ago some thieving brute tried stealing my scoot. I rode to work and locked my scoot to a concrete stop sign like usual. Now I mostly work from midnight on but, that Sunday I went in at 5am. After my shift was over I put on my gear and unlocked the scoot. Well, I found the deep cut in my cable from a pair of bolt cutters. I got lucky with more than one lock on my scoot the thief moved on. They did not cut my lock or cable but, they tried. Now security is a real concern for me. I need to get a new chain/cable so i did a little research. Check out these bad boys (Oh and that lock) Now the cost of the lock is around 250usd The chain is fairly cheap at 150usd but, shipping will cost more than a new 50cc scoot. This is a bit much for my use but, if you have the cash, This should protect just about anything

Man Bong that's big enough to anchor a ship! You said you chained up to a road sign? Heck it would be easier to take a hack saw and saw the sign down!
One thing's for sure the time it would take for someone to cut this off with a gas cutting torch ought to allow someone to yell "hey they're stealing your scoot!"
Seriously the only chain I've see bigger was on the anchor of a US battle ship!

I agree with JR, on the size of that chain, bong. That must be one heavy set and most of our scoots would take a performance hit just carrying it around.

That has to be the biggest security solution I've ever seen. Just thought I would share. I was amazed at that chain/lock. I doubt I could even fit it under my seat on a little 50cc. The extra 200lbs may reduce my top speed a bit I just went to the hardware store and got another cable. The thieves couldn't cut it the first time so I figured it was good enough but, If your really paranoid that's an option. ;D ;D

I lock my scoot with a Coleman cable lock to a sructural beam in my carport. Several times I've found new cut-marks on the plastic covering on the cable, from some BIG bolt-cutters. Fortunately the stranded cable has held up perfectly. It at least "keeps the honest people honest..."
I lost my Harley to theives years ago. It was chained with a solid Titanium link chain which the dealer said was about "cut-proof". He was right. BUT... theives sprayed the monster chain with freon, and hit it with a hammer. It shattered like glass, and the hog was history. At least in MY personal experience, stranded cable seems far more theft-proof than heavy chain.
Then there's my neighbor... He has lives in a $3,000 trailer house like me. He rides a $75,000 custom chopper. His security? A 125 lb pit-bull tied (loosely, with a VERY flimsy rope) to the bike. The dog has 3-inch stainless-steel fangs (actually done by a local high-end dental surgeon, and fellow biker...).
So far, NOBODY has vetured closer than 50 feet from the chopper... LOL!
We all have our ways... I'm a light-sleeper and like most of us in the trailer park, keep some heavy-caliber insurance handy.
Ride safe!

I have had two scoots stolen and one has been taken three times it has always been my fault not setting the alarm or chaining it , acutally I use a stranded cable, as they smush instead of pop thru...but like the guy said if they want something bad enough.all three times the front fork was locked but that didn'tstop 'em..the freezing thing is those people that do it for a living....I have seen that thing that is an alarm that fits thru your disc rotor there are several makes out there and they look tamper proof and make a helluva racket....you have people that all they do is cruise around with their a-hole buddies looking to take things that offer little resistance and most are crack heads...I have gotten mine back two times (small town) and this third go around have had a neighbor spot it so in my baliwick they are dumb enough to ride it around thinking no one will notice...oh yeah they like to take the trunks off and the rear view mirrors and front turn signals thinking it will not be noticable but the scoot stands out because they are the only ones like it in town...the old retro look in a stand out blue with black trim and a big ole silver streak on the sidess....
People who steal Harleys are serious thieves and scooter thieves are of the garden variety and every where.....and tend to have tans
