Hi everyone! hope everyone is staying warm! Especially those in NC where my family lives. They've always asked me what it's like up here in Minnesota, well, I guess they are finding out first hand today! Anyway, I'm going to be gearing up for springtime and I have a problem. I need a new front brake drum plate for my 49cc Tank scoot. The cable holder broke and now I find out out that the cable goes on the left side, but I can't seem to find a plate or drum that is left sided. Is there any law that sez I can't get a right sided one and just turn the tire/wheel around? Would there be any balance problems or anything like that? It just sounds too easy to get a right sided one and switch everything around to the other side. Also, does anyone recommend someone who can sell me a new one with brake pads? Thank you!!

Hi guys! A couple yrs. ago, I broke the brake cable holder on my front hub. I easily and safely reattached it by bending a large washer and screwed it on tight. It was never a problem until I decided to replace the hub. When you look forward from the seated position, everything looks normal and alligned on the left side. When I shop for a new hub however, is when things get weird. Almost all of the hubs I can find are identical in every way except one. All of them are alligned for the right side. Is there such a thing as a right or left hub? If so, where do I find a left sided hub?

I just got around to trying to install a new brake light switch. Put in the new one and things are once again right as rain. There's a very powerful urge for me to dig in and really investigate further, but good riding weather is rapidly going away, so I'll take my Grandma's advise and "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"!

I thought I posted this before, but here it is again, really short. If I can kickstart my scoot without the battery connected, is it AC or DC? (Or still a bit young and just experimenting? )

Hmm, yeah, that's what's happening only in reverse. I just ordered a new switch. If it turns out the same way, I figure there's a short somewhere, but I cannot imagine how, since it was working perfectly before. Like you guys have always said, in electrical there's always a gremlin!

nope. I tried to switch them, same thing. It's only 2 wires, so power goes straight thru from one to the other & the switch breaks it, or connects it, right?

hi everyone! I seem to have run into a weird little problem with my Tank Classic scooter. After I parked for the day (keys removed) Neighbors called or knocked on my door to tell me my tail light was still on. I jiggled everything I could think of & hit pay dirt with the brake switch. I jiggled it again and it shut off. I later ( hours and days) got more calls that the light was on again. I didn't have time to really look into it so I just unhooked the left brake switch. It still started with the right switch and I always brake with both hands so everything else still worked with that switch disabled. I removed the switch and bench tested it along with my spare switch and they both are now reversed. That is, the light goes off when the plunger is depressed. Not depressed, it's always on. Time to buy new switches? Move to a reverse polar universe? Or is there something I can do to reverse it myself? Why is this happening? Especially with my spare switch?

Hi everyone! long time! Nearly 2 yrs. ago I twice dumped my Tank Classic 50. There were lot's of scratches, and a few good cracks on 4 pieces of same color body panels. I got lazy, fixed it up best I could. Went on riding, not a care. Then Erin told me to clean it up, have it fixed, or buy a new one. Like an idiot, I decided to replace body parts. I had resolve!! After an 18 month search,( U.S., China, and U.K.) I finally figured out I couldn't replace what I couldn't find. Tank was out of business, and no spare body parts were to be found. Worse, I had my heart set on changing colors from blue to black. I finally found a wholesaler that had in stock body parts for TNG scooters that appear to be identical. Since they are a wholesaler, they were off limits to me, no ifs ands or buts! In Minneapolis, there are very few scooter dealers, fewer yet who would help me. Then I found a shop that has a really, very nice and engaging parts manager named Megan who just so happened to have some dealings with MRP wholesalers. The black parts are on the way. Only thing left was the front mudguard 2 part that I could not find, other than red or blue. My old one is blue & the other parts are black.I decided to repair and repaint myself. I started by washing in hot, soapy water to get the dirt off. I stopped to do an hourlong iphone face talk with Erin, who is in Istanbul right now. I got a guided tour of the Bascilica Cistern, which I missed when I was there. Really, really cool BTW. I got back to the mudguard in the sink and put a scrub brush to the dirt on it. To my total shock and amazement, the original paint began peeling off in huge chunks, assisted with a small kitchen knife. Bare plastic underneath, without a drop of primer!!! God love the so called lazy, drunken chinese factory workers!! Now, tell me what is the best type glue to use? Gorilla Glue just chipped right off. Epoxy? Too messy, I thought. Any ideas?? Local stores are at a loss, the internet says to use a welding type glue that actually melts the plastic together. I can't find anything like that. Any suggestions? ?? The story is to let you others know not to give up the search, and improvise or think outside the box during your search for the rare parts. Sorry, it was so long. Thanks for listening!! Bruce

hey guys!! I'm back! I just took a little break. Wires were about to encircle me & strangle me!! I want to thank you all for the help you've given me on this old scoot of mine. & believe me, you have helped immensely! As to my earlier problems ( brake lights, starter, etc) That's all fixed now. Then, my other problem was and still is the headlights stayed on no matter where the ignition switch is. I've just kept it unplugged ever since. But I've also done some intense investigation. The tail light works exactly the way it should, as well as the brake lights and starter. Now, I bought an ignition switch and it doesn't do anything. I sent it back and the new one should be here tomorrow. As for the front pieces, the headlights are STILL on, but I've traced the wiring all the way back. Remember when I was having trouble with a yellow, chewed up, unattached wire in my headlight bundle? Well, it's a three wire bundle (wires soldered together). Wires are blue, white & green in front and green/yellow, yellow &green. in the back. I've tried every combination of the wires present & STILL I can't get the darn headlights to turn off. Now, as for the pics, first one is the headlight plug in, notice the yellow wire, That's the sucker I,vie been chasing. My headlight wires are blue, green & green/yellow. Pic # 2 is my left hand switching cluster. Notice the hi/low beam switch on top. this is where the Hadleigh wires go. At this point there are two wires blue and white. Perhaps this might be the culprit? lastly, we have the input wiring that lives in the tail light housing. Notice the yellow wire. I happen to get full continuity on this wire all the way up front where it has been living inside an insulating tube for 3 yrs. Thanks again for all your help.

Hey, I'm back!! OK you wanted some pics, so here they are. This one is the harness from the left brake handle assembly. This is where that mysterious yellow wire was hiding. I chased it & came up with this chewed up end on the front & it went all the way to the back to the taillights. the last 6 inches or so was repaired with black, black, green. The next one is the END of that same yellow wire I found up front. The last is the harness for the ignition switch. I got the new one because the things that were supposed to be switched were not & I just kept losing stuff for periods of time. All 4 wires were kinda tore up. Things are starting to come back, now I want to clean up the wires, and maybe rearrange them so stuff isn't so hard to find!!

Hey everyone! I finally put the scoot inside. BTW, when I say inside, I really mean in the Living Room. I'm trying to find out what's going on with my scooter electricals. First, my headlight is on when the power switch is in the off position. I'm told it should be the other way around. I got a new ignition switch & everything still ran like it did before, light on/ key off. Now the next thing is also electrical, when I was installing the new ignition switch, I noticed an odd little bundle of wires. Colors are- orange-Grey- Grey, then solid green with green/ yellow then black. Inside the tube where you can't see it is a yellow wire that was cut off even with the little tube. I've read you guys talking about a yellow wire to the tail light assembly. However, the present wiring system Has a yellow wire back there already. Now today, all the power just went away. It came back a couple hours later, but it sure makes it hard to diagnose things!!! Any ideas???

Hey everyone! Well it's time. I have to bring it inside!! Oh well, now I can go over it really good and get ready for next spring!
i have a problem, wondering if anyone knows a solution. I bought a new ignition pack, installed it and it,s abit too small for the hole. It fits into it, but it's extremely loose, when the key turns, everything turns etc. Is there some kind of adapter, or home-baked solution out there? I'd really appreciate any help on this!! Thanks everyone!!

My dear old dad used to say "Always keep spares of the parts you don't need". And he was a nuclear submariner! Scary stuff! Yeah, my headlight goes on when you turn the key on (not started) and sometimes vice versa. I figure it can't be THAT hard, there's only 4 wires!
