As far as the electrical, you got it, dude. That OEM fusebox has issues -- connector slots tend to push down out of place, equalling poor or no connection. I totally replaced mine with one from Autozone. Your testing of the fuses themselves sounds okay; I just use a 6v flashlight battery, multimeter. If 6v gets through to the other side, fuse is okay (whereas eyeball system can fool you, can look good and still be bad).
As to fan circuit, my understanding is that from A to Z it's as follows: juice from battery --> inline fuse on red wire --> ignition switch --> back to fusebox --> through fuse for fan only --> to thermoswitch on bottom of radiator (((NOT thermostat, two different animals))) --> to fan --> to a ground somewhere. It sounds from your description like you've eliminated almost everything, but it's still possible that thermoswitch isn't coming on at the intended temperature, which I'm told is around 176 fahrenheit. (Or was it 167?) Anyhow, on my 2011 Roketa, which is very much similar to your 2008 Jonway, the temp gauge on the dash has never yet gotten above the midpoint, and the fan kicks in right at the midpoint. If your gauge is getting much higher than that, I'd certainly be looking at that thermoswitch. Alleyoop or JR or other gurus, feel free to chime in if I have any of this wrong. But I learned it all from you!

Alley: for doofuses like me, can you maybe explain WHY it points to the R/R? If it runs with the battery completely out of circuit, clearly the R/R must be putting out juice. Brightening of headlights and instrument lights when he squeezes the brakes seems completely counter-intuitive, as if adding the brake circuit into the "mix" is somehow REMOVING a current leak from the picture, but how the heck can that be? On the road, is the R/R intended to handle all current demands as part of its normal functioning? Or is the R/R just supposed to carry the steady-state load, with the battery picking up the difference when extra gizmos are turned on? Looking at the fusebox and my wiring diagram, I see that "all lights" are supposedly fed from the R/R when the engine is running, but on the other hand there are individual fuses for various lights and gadgets that feed off the battery. Just trying to learn more here, and it's all relevant to my own ongoing charging system issues. Headlights on or off, brights on or off, fan on or off, all are players in my own situation, so I continue trying to get my mind around how all this works.

Lots of possible reasons for that, why do you suspect spark plug? What are your symptoms? Cranks, tries to fire but doesn't catch? Cranks but doesn't even try to fire? Tell the folks more, dude.

That says the Stator/RR/CDI system is functioning, but what happens under those conditions if you rev the engine? If everything works as it should, lights stay bright, engine revs smoothly, then time to start looking for loose connectors, bad grounds. If, with battery disconnected like that, the lights dim or the scoot stumbles or dies when revving, then what's coming out of that charging system is inadequate or intermittent or both for some reason. There too, it could just be a loose connection or poor ground somewhere, no need to assume from jump that one of the gizmos needs to be replaced. You didn't way what scoot you have, on my 2011 Roketa all that charging stuff is under the right side plastic (or was until I relocated it to the under-seat compartment).

I'm not really clear what "hump" we're talking about; mine has a definite hump BEHIND the driver seat that is the front of the passenger seat, and your picture looks the same as mine. For me that hump is useful, when I see I'm gonna drive over a speed bump or uneven pavement I push off with my legs to cushion the shock, and that hump keeps me from sliding too far back on the seat. But then I'm only 5'9" or so, guess for taller guys it's different.

Nothing that involves a membership, thankyewverrymuch. If I can't buy tow insurance straight up, standalone, no bundling, I'll do without and hope for the best. But thanks for all the well-intentioned advice; I did ask, didn't I.

Been awhile, but as I recall there are metal valve caps with a little slotted metal thingie sticking up. Turn the cap upside down and insert that thingie into the valve and just unscrew the guts. If you have the smooth valve caps, of course, you might have to visit AutoZone or somewhere and look for the other kind.
I ***MIGHT*** even have some of them lying around in one of my toolboxes, if so I'll post a picture later this evening.

Nah, I have roadside for my cars via USAA, if the scoot breaks down I'll just call them and get the number of the closest towing outfit they recommend, and pay the bill myself. Won't kill me.

Okay, looks like unless I want more than basic liability I'm not gonna find roadside coverage offered as a stand-alone. So be it. That folding trailer from Harbor Freight is looking better and better.

Well, don't put a lot of time into it. One can always go to the last page of a thread, then the "go to bottom" icon -- not that big a deal. I'm in some forums where it is set up newest at the top, but not all web authoring software is the same. You have enough to worry about.

WITHIN EACH THREAD, one sees the oldest, original post at the top, then the reply to that, etc., etc., etc. When a thread goes on for a considerable length of time, my personal druthers would be, when I open the thread, show me the latest "contribution" at the TOP of the first page. If I've been following the discussion anyway, I don't want to navigate down through all the preceding posts before getting to the new stuff. But as I said, that's just MY preference, others may not feel the same. Just throwing the idea up for discussion, and since JR hasn't chimed in, maybe it's not even technically possible.

I'm not sure of your numbers You say Geico is $150 a year full coverage with tow service ? Progressive is $100 just minimum liability no tow ? A separate tow/roadside assistants is like $40 . The way to go is clear $150 full coverage with tow for $150 sounds correct and not a bad deal . John No, the other way around. Progressive was $75 per scoot (AZ minimum liability only) plus a buck for roadside; Geico is $50 per scoot for the same thing but doesn't offer roadside unless I also sign up for collision and comp. I don't want or need anything more than basic liability; if my <$2K Roketa gets trashed, c'est la vie, time to buy another one, and I have my medical insurance needs covered in other ways. If Geico would offer roadside for a buck like Progressive I'd sign up for it in a heartbeat, but they don't. And as far as I've been able to discover, nobody offers roadside only, for scooters and cycles.

Two scoots were costing me about $150 a year with Progressive, right at $100 with Geico, same coverage except for the roadside assistance with Progressive/not with Geico. Also, since one or the other scooter is in storage at any given time, it annoyed me that Progressive didn't have any kind of a seasonal/storage option. Full-year coverage, not using the scoot half of that year, tough noogies. (Geico doesn't either, but way cheaper rate makes up for that.)
Probably renting a trailer is going to be my fallback for scooter breakdowns, though if it happens on a holiday or at sunset on a Saturday, could be difficult to find one. I'm looking at some folding trailers at Harbor Freight that might let me store a trailer in my already crowded garage. Could also probably be useful for other occasional hauling.

My Roketa gets right at 75 mpg, so I just go by the odometer and fill up when I pass 150 miles. At that point my gas gauge is actually showing pretty low, even though in theory I should still have a gallon or so. Haven't pushed it much beyond that point, why risk dead-on-road? Scot, if that horse ain't dead yet, you need a bigger stick!
