I want to get into the cvt to check out my drive belt and to replace my roller weights, and check my clutch area out because when I start out it sounds like metal scraping or maybe needs greased should I also replace the main clutch spring? I have mc-54-250b roketa scooter 2008. Attachments:

Richard How many miles on your scooter? How many miles between oil changes? When does it make the scraping noise? Is it constant? Under acceleration? Does it go away or get louder when you apply the rear brake? I was waiting for one of the experts to respond but since nobody has, you're stuck with me. Noises can be cured by process of elimination. Make sure you don't have a small stone stuck between your brake pad and rotor. If you want to remove the cover to check the CVT, clutch and drive belt, remove all of the bolts around the perimeter of the case guard on the left side. Two of the black bolts hold on the air cleaner box. Make sure you remove the bolt located in the hole in the center of the cover or it'll never come off. Once you get on there, you can remove three philips head screws that hold on the fan cover to reveal the CVT. Beyond that, you're on your own, brother. I'm confident you will find your noise. Good luck Ernie

Hi Ernie, right now I have about 7,500 miles on my scoot, I change oil about every 1,000 miles. changed grear oil not to long ago, the scraping noise is more just when I'm starting out, can't hear it after that, I just had the back tire off and brakes recently when I put the new tire on, its good there. I have read that your clutch pads can glaze over, it might be that? Don't knoe unmtil I get in ther. Did you replace your main clutch spring when you put your sliders in? (Thanks for the info:)

Ernie is right on, With that many miles sounds more like your Clutch pads are pretty worn down and could be 1 of your clutch pads has worn down so much it is metal to metal now and is scraping the Bell until if fully grabs once you get rolling good with higher rpms. Alleyoop

Richard I've got 10K on one 250 and not spring or pad problem. If you've never had the cover off and did a good cleaning and service then it's time at that many miles, can be just a roller sounding off or things in need of a little grease also need to check the belt, I changed mine at 7k but kep the old one as a spare.
The variator will be full of nasty gummy sticnking Chinese grease, clean this mess up even if you don't put sliders in you need to only grease the center shaft (boss) and the little "U" slides on the back plate.
The clutch can be removed and it's a lot better if you have a air hose to blow it all out. There are needle bearings on each side give them some grease and also the shaft where the main spring needs a little lubrication, and a little is all, one does not want grease slinging all over your belt. check the clutch and variator pulley face to make sure they have no groves or rough places on them.
If the pads are glazed over and still okk like they have good padding then lightly sand them with 80 to 120 grit sand paper and also make sure the insdie of the clutch bell is smooth.
You can go to the Dollar Store and gett a bottle of Goodys roach powder and put a little of it on the face of the pads, it is 99% boric acid and it will make the pads seat well with the bell and grip good, added benefit no Roaches! LOl
Unless you just have something that has just went bad it probably just needs some TLC.,

That metal scraping sound is caused by belt dust on the clutch pads. Rubber belt dust does collect on the pads which causes the clutch to grip more than it should. This puts too much pressure on the pad springs (not the main spring) causing that metal scraping sound you are hearing. The noise quits when the clutch is fully engaged with the clutch drum. Use a fine sand paper to lightly remove the little black rubber spots you'll find on the clutch pads and perhaps the clutch drum as well.

if it does it constantly at idle/acceleration, it is probably the needle bearings in the clutch. once the clutch engages fully, the needle bearings don't spin anymore. seen this on a few bikes, or a pad spring can be off

Might be that the brake is brushing against the brake rotor as the wheel spins from being warped I still have that issue. Test it on the stand by having someone give it a little gas and move the brake to see if it stops just watch your hands. Unless your have big woman on your back seat your cluch should not be worn this early on. GL hope you find the problem
