My 259-54b quit will coming back from the store yesterday !! It will crank and run for a second then will not try again. I checked for fuel. When pulling the bowel drain screw gas came out freely. That makes me believe the problem is not gas related. I was down two half a 1/4. adjusted the valves about 200 miles ago and it has been great. Also at that time i checked all plug at regulator and electronics under right side cover. I put dielectric grease in and around all plugs !! I guess I'm looking for support ? I'm going to check wiring again. I will also go back through valves to make sure something has not changed or came loose. I apreciated any ideas. Thanks

Ok good to know you're getting fuel but just because the bowl has fuel doesn't mean that the carb hasn't got issues? When you say run for a second and then not again do you mean it'll start up run for a bit then die or will it die when you give it gas? Will it start right back up after it dies?
If so it sure sounds like a stopped up main or what is called the idle jet.

Jr i replied in the wrong place!!! I cleaned carb gas tank last week. The bike was running about 50 miles an hr. It acted like i cut the switch off. when i tried to crank back it hit one time. then when u try again it does nothing. Wait a while and it will hit one time and then turns over good but will not hit or fire . Thanks for the come back JR

It turns over fine I just will not crank. I put a start switch ( brake switch in middle of the handle bars) It is a heavy duty. I do not have the brake switch problem any more. I changed two before i did that. That was a couple of years ago .Thanks !!!!

Is the starter engaging or just spinning? Have you taken the spark plug out and put back in the spark plug cap and ground it and crank to see if your getting a continual spark (nice and blue)

Yes I don't know how your post even got there but Richard is right, need to check for spark, could be a coil going bad, or even the CDI. Try starting it and if it starts wait for it to die and then get the plug out as soon as you can without getting burned and check for spark.
I will say this it's easy to miss a little piece of trash in the main or even high speed jet and these problems occur but let's see if we have a healthy spark?

It turns over fine I just will not crank. Maybe I'm just slow, but that sentence makes absolutely no sense to me. In my world, turning over and cranking are one and the same.

Well, let me see if I got this straight--first ,the scoot was running 50 mph only,so you took it apart to fix the slow speed, and when you put it back together,it won't even run, like it is getting no gas at all--sounds about right --so something is not together right or stopped up--happens all the time--or one other probable cause--the reason it wouldn't run over 50 in the first place is the reason it won't run at all now--it finally broke ...however ,I lean toward getting trash in the carb and stopping up a little hole or sticking a needle valve or cutting fuel off totally--happens --good luck, fflintstone

Hi rose, welcome to our forum were glad your here and want to help. I've done all the work on my scooter and I have had my share of problems, I'd look at two areas, first if the carb and all the jets and passage ways are clean that's good. I'd pull off the fuel line to carb and crank it to see if your fuel pump is working right (I had a bad pump and it would just shut off) is there any fuel coming out, could be a bad of weak pump and when you loose the vacuum it take a long time to start, did you try priming it by taking the ACV valve hose off and spray carb cleaner or starting fluid in the hose and put back on and crank it, the other thing to check is your air filter, if its dirty it can do the same thing (happened to me). btw I have a good friend in Tenn too

Thanks for the come back I checked the fuel from pump this morning. It is pumping. I have not taken the carburetor of yet but that is my next move. Thanks it is nice to have support. I'm at a age where I'm forgetting and need a little help.I find my self not trusting my help more and more these days. I have worked on harleys all my life. they are easy for me. Hardly a day goes by that someone does not call for help. I close my shop in Daytona 4 years ago.

Well I got it. I pulled the top off the carburetor. Pulled the slide out. Blew air where the needle goes. Cranked before i put the top back on . While it was running i put slide and needle back on carburetor and put the screws back in . It had trash in the jet. The scooter is running great now. Problem is I have to clean the carburetor now . It has trash in it. Thanks for all your help
