Had battery at 10 volts, 3 amp. Replaced with new 2 year 12 volt. Hit start button, only a click at the starter. What else can I check? 12/24/13 had charged up battery 13 volts, jump across, can now crank the motor. Still does not start, use a five second spin, wait 10 Seconds, and try again. After a few tries, charge the battery. Has fuel, can smell gas in ex hast . ? Any way thank you for the help.

Might try briefly jumpering across the poles of the starter relay. If it cranks then, suspect a problem with the ignition switch or the connections from battery --> ignition switch --> starter relay.

Finally got started, had to twist gas about four times, started. Had to up idle to 1700 rpm, to smooth out engine. Had let it warm up first. Runs rough around 5000 rpm, seems to lose power, but climes to 7000. Am waiting For speedometer part to ride.

Turn key on this morning, nothing!,, no tail lights, nothing. Had left on battery charger, low voltage. Battery is 13.8 volts, check for fuse, Unless there is another up front? Recheck ground, scrape agin & tighten. When jump across silnoit, starter turns over. Just no 12 volt Power anywhere. Will check for a post similar to this. Just about had it with problem after problem. No lights, horn, signals.

No power at all = blown fuse or bad battery connection.

Well If the battery is reading 13.8 that is good so it has to be maybe a flown fuse or bad connection at the fuse box etc.. Have you checked the fuse's and make sure they are making good contact in their slots. Alleyoop

If nothing at all on key turn, start with the 20-amp (?) in-line fuse on the smaller red wire off the positive battery terminal. Bitter experience tells me they can look good and still be bad, especially if they are OEM ChinaCheapo's.
After that, if you do have that fusebox in Alley's picture, it too is ChinaCheapo, and the little tabs the fuses fit into tend to slide down out of position. One of the many wires going INTO that fusebox brings 12v back from the ignition switch, and the fusebox then distributes it to all the different places it needs to go. If the fuse for that primary wire is bad, or not well connected, no juice will be getting through to anything. With key on, you can also pull all the fuses and check for 12v on the "in" side of each slot (three should have voltage, one won't unless the engine is running).
If the in-line fuse was okay, and no juice at all is getting to the fusebox, start suspecting your ignition switch or its connections.
I highly recommend replacing that fusebox entirely, although it's a bit tedious snipping and re-connecting all those wires. Also takes attention to detail, keeping very close track of which wire goes where (Labeling them is a smart move).
OhMyGawd, listen to me -- starting to sound like I know what I'm doing on some subjects! Shows you the value of a year at Scooter U!

First off, I would like to thank John Plautus w/tvacman@aol.com. He had called me about a post I sent him, was very helpful about my problem. Then he asked about south Louisiana , as I have been down here since Sept, 1968. I have a current CLD, & have worked on the water most of The time. Still working on liftboats in the oil field in the bayous & lakes. After I got home, did some checking & cleaning the key area. Spayed the WD-40 in & working the key a while, I finally got power, & reliable starts ( ?), I had pulled all china fuses out & replaced with The same amps fuses after checking with omn meter. Anyway it starts, yea. Now it's 40* & raining , south Louisiana winter weather. Thank you John, really enjoyed the phone call! Oh yes got some dielectric grease at 3 this morning, rain all day, just have not used it yet.

if you can get some of the grease inside the switch that would be a home run . Time will tell if that solves the problem .

Started but missing, upgraded coil, readjust values, need plug gap size? Will replace stock plug with radium. 244 engine size. 12/31/13 thank you have set at .030. Replaced plug, heard a new rattle, went into air box, bracket broke off air cleaner. ? Just replace with stock, or go unifilter? & rejet.

Still have key switch problems, after several tries got started, had fixed speedometer cable problem. When for a ride on new front tire, very smooth. Engine running better, no missing, will only get up to 62, @ 5000rpm. Oh well, it runs & starts after several tries. Will cut out the small Fuse, & replace it with a blade fuse on the small red wire on the starter solenoid. Rain & cool today. Have not replaced the plastics yet. Just want to ride some. Have to go to work tomorrow. I do thank you for the information.
