Cleaned out old grease, wiped down everything. Roughed up the pads on the clutch. Every thing looked smooth, No scratches, lite grease on the shaft & tighten up. New belt looks tight. The Honda clone 244, 5" on the front. Yep, too tight, won't allow engine to turn over, will have to order another belt.

This should have been named "Always something ". Used the rear tire & turned several times to re position the belt, Can now turn the variator by hand, still kind of tight, but moving. OK the starter does not turn over, even jumping the Solenoid. battery is 12.8 volts. Guess I need to remove the starter & check it out. Looks like two 10 mm bolts holding the starter. Any other suggestions? I do like the help, you all have been great!

Since you can turn the crank over with the variator that is good engine not seized. So yes take the starter off and apply 12v to it and see if ti spins. If it does then recheck the wiring from the positive post on the battery to the solenoid and the other terminal on the solenoid going to the starter. Also check the ground wire from the neg on the battery to the frame and the ground from the motor to the frame if all good then the solenoid is bad IF the starter spun when tested. Alleyoop

Well the starter turns freely, mounted back in & turns engine over, does not start yet. Have charger on it will check in two hours. If I can not start, will remove belt & Varator, then try. Thank you for your help. 2 hours latter, removed belt & started engine. Belt is too tight will order another. Have another problem now, can not remove the 1" sleeve to get the back plate off the varator. Filed the groves on the outside, still can not remove the 1" sleeve?

The sleeve your talking about is that the ROUND METAL CYLINDER that the Variator moves in and out on? If so it is just stuck softly hit the Variator plate to loosen it, sometimes with heat they expand a little and tighten up. What size belt is currently on there? The belt size should be printed on the belt like 842 20 30, 835 20 30 etc.. Alleyoop Is this what your calling the Sleeve, it is called the BOSS and it holds the Variator Back plate on the crank shaft.

Thank you, the boss slides to the end of the splines & stops. I believe I tighted the variator too tight, even with the washer on, I lightly filed the splines, & was able to remove it. I had ordered the belt last year, will order a gates 828-22.5-30 tomorrow .

the belt on there is 128 22.5 30? Can you take a picture of the cvt and belt with the cover off? IF the belt is down about 1/2 inch down in the CLUTCH PULLEY that belt is to short. The belt on the clutch pulley should be near the edge of the pulleys like this: Alleyoop

Your right as usual, too dark to take a. Picture. The belt was all the way down on both pulleys. I'll try to check the number tomorrow. Belt #828-22.5-30 is on right now, this is too tight. Pulled down on both pulleys.

The one you have is correct if you have a 10 inch rear wheel. If you have a 12 or 13 inch rear wheel it should be a 918x22.5x30.

Then you need a 918 X 22.5 X 30 size belt.
